well, she is not his mother... she relinquished that right when she abandoned him... I dont know why people are so judgy, it was pretty clear tht she didnt want anything to do with him from the very beginning and has no obligation to be in his life, i probably would have had an abortion had i been in her place so at least she was mentally strong enough to carry the pregnancy of an unwanted child to term, pregnancies are not short they last almost a year, 9 months carrying an unwanted pregnancy must be a pretty traumatic event

Abortions weren't as socially acceptable in the 80s as they are now...and she may have not had the means to have an abortion, or she may have found out she was pregnant when it was already too late for her to have an abortion (you never know - some women only find out they're pregnant when they're giving birth!).
In terms of judgment - I believe you are responsible for any baby you give birth to, unless you go through a formal method of adoption. Since this woman took such a lazy and easy way out (leaving her son in a box!), I feel she still shoulders a lot of responsibility for the son. If she had done the right thing and found him a healthy foster family through the legal system, I wouldn't have any issue with her.

ABORTION was invented to help motherless children to not have to be born!!! Here you see what happens when motherless children ARE allowed to be born: they go look for their birth mother!!! It is never advisable to contact a biological parent for the first time in a confrontational manner. I don't mean his demeanor - he is the typical polite, apologizing adoptee like most of us. But never contact them at their place of business, and always first ask if now is a good time to talk, are you able to talk right now, are they alone, etc. etc. I'll never forget that first call to my biological mother, heart in throat. Once she realized who I was, she cried and cried before talking to me for well over an hour. However, we know it can go either way. There are resources out there for adoptees advising on how to approach first contact and reunion.

a teenager in Dayton Ohio did that very thing. She was pregnant, gave birth in her bathroom, placed the baby in the garbage can and never told her parents. I don't know how the parents couldn't tell their daughter was pregnant. A friend of the baby mother informed the police and they found the baby, dead in the family garbage. The baby had suffocated so she was alive when she was born. That is murder. This girl did go to jail but a lot of people campaigned for her to get out. What I found really sad along with the death of the infant was the fact that this young girl could not go to her parents when she really needed them. How sad is that? I don't think women have to worry about "shame" anymore. Give the baby up for adoption. There are people who can't have kids who would jump at that chance. There is no shame is allowing someone else to adopt your child if you aren't capable of being a good parent.

An old friend of mine was given up/abandoned at birth, at 18 years he confronted his birth mother, she basically didn't want anything to do with him, her words were " I abandoned you the first day, what makes you think I would want you now". Those were the hardest words I have ever listened to in my lifetime, several months later he committed suicide. His birth mother showed up to his funeral, she was scolded and asked to leave during mid funeral mass. His adopted parents did not like her at all, in fact neither of the people there did.

In my opinion, a mother is someone raise her child no matter in what situation. My mother (my dad was killed at 40 yo during the war) had 8 children and we were very very very dirt poor. We lived in a country that had the war for over 30 years before I came to the US. She did not give up any of us. We never had any toy, birthday, and barely enough foods to eat. We never had any good shoe to wear or decent clothes for school. BUT we were all together. We all now have a decent job (am a Registered Nurse in New Port Beach California, in an acute care, large Presbyterian hospital). So, I think being poor is never a reason to abandon your child, and especially in a situation like this, in a very cold weather as such. Ben, maybe you should not reach out to this lady anymore. Let's go on with your life. You have a beautiful family of your own and loving adopted parents. Thank you for this video and take care your self, Ben.

I know exactly how he felt as I myself was abandoned in a cardboard shoe box when I was only 6 days old outside a hospital in London England I have never known my parents and it does have an affect on you.Even though so long ago.As I have 2 grown up daughters now.Yet it always hurt me knowing they never knew there grandparents especially at birthdays or Christmas.I was not so lucky I never got adopted I was put in a children's home and the less said about it the better because of the abuse I suffered from the age of 3 until I was 15 years old.But I am a survivor and not a victim and my daughter's mean the world to me.So if anyone who is reading this has the same sort of background to me please remember it's not your fault that you are very beautiful and strong.Always hold on strong to the love of truth and the truth of love as this will pave your way to a very positive present and future.I never had any counselling I did it all myself by writing down exactly how I felt.Until I did not fear anyone anymore I never gave in with the abuse that I got and it was horrendous but I beat it and have emerged to be a winner a survivor and as I said not a victim. So remember no what your circumstances you are all beautiful and unique in your own way. This is to everyone living in this world no matter what you have to face.Remember your strong beautiful and always positive in all that you do God bless everyone and the ones who will read this comment.

Something similar happened in my family. It all started when my grandmother received an Ancestry DNA kit for Christmas a couple years ago. She was just excited to see if she really was part Italian. But then, she got multiple hits from relatives. She found out that her father had cheated on her mother and it resulted in a baby. When she contacted this man, he broke down because he said that since he bounced around in foster care his whole life, he never felt like he really belonged. My grandma and my dad were both ready to welcome him into our family, but my grandma’s siblings still resent him because he reminds them of their fathers wrongdoings. Sigh. My grandma also found some cousins because he uncle cheated on her aunt and had multiple children with multiple different women. Honestly there’s a lot of shitty guys in my family. And all the kids they had were given up so they were adopted/given up.

Most states have "baby dropoff points" now to prevent this situation. Lots of times they are at fire stations because fire stations are occupied 24/7. A woman can drop off an infant and she will not be charged with a crime as long as she is the mother (you can't just drop off a random kid). This likely did not exist back then. Every kid should know this -- if you end up in a horrible situation, far along in a pregnancy with a baby you do not want (perhaps it's too late for abortion or perhaps you do not believe in abortion) you CAN drop that kid off and face no punishment.
