Technically speaking, this is due to a general misunderstanding for the greek/latin roots that the academic community is fond of. Terms like "homophobia" or "transphobia" got introduced through the zeitgeist. Laypeople coined the terms without understanding the etymology, because everyone understands what a phobia is. Phobias are fears, which is not an accurate description of what people mean by homophobia or transphobia. People aren't afraid. The prefix miso- means hate. We should also note the fact that both misogyny and gynophobia are real things, words that exist. Gynophobia is exactly that, a phobia, while misogyny refers to hatred. Technically speaking, more correct terms for "every kind of phobic" would be terms beginning with that miso- prefix, and not including the -phobia suffix at all.
@@dontmisunderstand6041 This is a misreading of the term. The way that the suffix is used in "homophobia" et al is after "xenophobia," and implies aversion and dread as well as the treatment of the thing being railed against as a threat. It is also worth noting that "homophobia" specifically was actually coined by the psychologist George Weinberg in the 1960s, with the wording specifically meant to describe such prejudices as having the character of morbid preoccupations. Whenever a homophobe pulls the "I'm not *afraid* of gay people…" line, they entirely fail to understand the subtext: That the nature of their hatred implies an obsessive discomfort and indeed fear with what the people they hate represent to them.
@@ConvincingPeople Being an expert in something does not make you an expert in everything. In the context of english word structure, etymology, and morphology, a psychologist IS a layperson. Yes, I'm aware that people use the terms "homophobia", "xenophobia" and "transphobia" to describe things that aren't phobias, but something else entirely. That's why I said it myself, in the comment you responded to. Your insistence that hate must necessarily stem from fear is entirely off-base... it's a meaningless insult that only detracts from the actual idea being presented. All you're doing by insisting that hatred for the LGBTQ or aliens is rooted in fear is delegitimizing the stigmatization of that hatred.
One thing I don't understand is why manganime seems to accept and enjoyshorthaired girls, yet almost every time a guy turns into a girl it comes with free hair lengthening and almost every time a girl dresses as a man, it comes with a short hair wig... even in cases where the hair the girl hides below the wig doen't even reach shoulder length.
@@jorgelotr3752 A short haired girl in baggy clothes looks far too similar to a short haired guy in baggy clothes, especially with normal animation quality. It isn't unusual for a given animation studio to use the same chin and face shape for both genders. Hence, the exaggeration.
@@r3dp9 That's a convincing explanation for the cases where it makes sense, but not for the case where it doesn't. The "let's grow the hair" gimmick for most MtF tends to come hand in hanf with visible changes in body shape (interesting enough, in the few cases where hair length doesn't change, it's replaces by a slight change in hairstyle plus a remarked rounding of the face), while most female transvestism comes hand in hand with chest bindings which are used alongside the secretly long hair to get the cat out of the bag, both at once (meaning getting a wig instead of a haircut makes no sense whatsoever for plot reasons).
@@jorgelotr3752 Put bluntly: I feel like a lot of people playing with these tropes don't know a lot of out trans people or drag performers, particularly transmasc folks who are a lot less visible in general, so they don't entirely think the implications through. That said, I think there's also an aspect of leaning into the fantasy of leading a double life and being desired in a way which does not objectify one's femininity, which I'm sure appeals to many cis women and… people who think they're cis women, or for that matter don't but are maybe on the downlow.
it sounds like not much in that anime makes sense like a poor homeless orphan owing a realistic wig instead of just cutting her hair or her getting fired because she brings in too many customers? like oh no how dare you make me so much money.
You say “even Ouran” but that manga was kind of ahead of its time in a lot of ways. Haruhi literally states that she doesn’t care what gender she is perceived as and she doesn’t care about gendered expectations. She was a non binary (if not just in fanon) icon before most of us knew NB people existed!!! I love her so much.
IF THE FATHER OF THE MC hates Gifts because he thinks god controls you through them then why did he cast out the MC when he didn't get a gift If I hate gifts then having a son with no gift seems like a blessing, you can even push your ideal of levels being better by training him and show everyone that he is still better without a gift. For a minute I forgot that this is trash and tried to use logic
Based on the video (haven't watched the show) it seems like this actually might make sense. If the dad actually hated gifts for the stated reasons, then he would probably think an ungifted son is great. But he doesn't actually hate gifts because he thinks levels are better. He hates gifts because he blames them for his wife's (apparently meaningless) death (for which he also blames his son). That his stated reason doesn't make sense could be seen as a hint that he has some other motive. I am probably giving this anime about 5000% too much credit here, though.
Don't think about it friend. Just agressively skip that one lol. I'm watching it because I'm absolutely MESMERIZED by how stupid and bad it is, I can't take my eyes off of it lol. I'd have to think long and hard before I could come up with another show close to how abysmal the fight scenes here are, add to that the zero effort MC and it's... it's something to behold.
I watched the first episode. Opening episode. Chance to make a good impression. Dragon fight. Awesome! Animation: is literally just a cardboard cutout on a stick moving across the screen. If they can't even be bothered to animate their series hook, I can't be bothered to even attempt Ep2

7th Prince's Lloyd is... He's at his most dangerous not when he's mad, but when he's _interested._ If you've seen Hyouka, and the main squeeze's "I'm curious!" face she uses to make the main character of THAT series do whatever she wants him to, then you get the vibe with which Lloyd shows interest in things that pique HIS curiosity. Except Lloyd is a True Neutral scientist who wants to test every possible permutation of this, including how much the monsters that piqued his curiosity can dish out _and take_. And Lloyd frequently demonstrates that he's _impressed_ by things that hurt him, not put out by them. And he wants to try them out on the guy who just did them. Not for revenge, but for SCIENCE.

I guess that's character growth. But still, _Darkness?_ I mean, she's one of my favorites so I'm happy. But still _Darkness?_ Did she get hit in the head just a little to hard and it knocked something loose? (or back together?)
Only when she has official business to attend to as a noblewoman. We've only seen her as an adventurer, so we weren't aware she had this side of her until now. Light Novel readers weren't aware she had this side of her until Volume 6, which is pretty much the first half of Season 3.
@@andrewowens4421 It isn't character growth, it's seeing the character in their element. Darkness was brought up in this environment, and as such knows how to function there.
I feel like early Tenchi Muyo! and the Monogatari Series are also in this conversation, but in terms of pure harem comedies where the multi-dynamic romcom setup entirely supersedes the other genre trappings, 100 Girlfriends is the gold standard by basically every metric.
Thank you for giving such a big highlight to 7th Prince! It really is a beautifully animated show with great music, and really funny characters as long as you can look past the surface. Lloyd is an absolute psycho with his magic obsession and it really makes him just so entertaining to watch XD
I, too, was turned off by the first 1-2 eps, but hearing that it sticks to a consistent level of poor quality to the point of becoming a running joke has rekindled my interest.
The real majesty of 7th Prince is framing the little boy as other anime would frame any girl and leaving the question of why you’re uncomfortable now for the viewer to ask
I haven't seen the anime for Chillin' In Another World, but, the manga is absolutely wild. There's a plot twist that you can see coming a mile away, but, when they reveal it, it mirrors Konosuba-levels of incompetence from certain characters. Also, I wouldn't exactly call it a "harem". Sure, it's got the obligatory harem pieces, but, only the wolf-girl wants to jump the MC's bones. The other girls are just following him because he's the strongest, or they follow his ideals...If anything, the real harem happens with side characters, which are hilarious to see unfold.
13:25 Having your big evil scheme be mastermindeded by dudes named Craig and Brett makes this sound more like an 80s "we gotta save the rec center!" movie than a not-isekai isekai.

My sanity and patience were being tested just listening to you explain these basic as hell anime. And you make them sound fun through your descriptions. I surrender to your strength of will and pray for you my brother. I would die of boredom.
Hold on now, I feel like that villain motivation about leveling instead of gifts was actually pretty good. Tying a character's ideology into an differential understanding of the world's metaphysics can make for a pretty good villain.
And that would make it the most interesting part of the whole damn show. It really is catastrophically bad. The animation is so bad that at least one time, they forgot to include the main girl's legs during a walking scene. Just completely missing.
It also makes the hero hiding his power out of laziness the bad guy of that arc since it's what creates the villain. Something actually interesting to cover so of course it doesn't focus on that.
@@jithianlaurent6490 To be fair, there is a proper explanation about his reasoning for hiding his powers at first. We only got a few snippets so far, so here's hoping they do explore that more.
Any character's motivation SHOULD be rooted in the way their beliefs and experiences interacted with the world they live in. That's a fundamental storytelling principle.
I feel like calling Mahouka "the Harry Potter incest thing" does a disservice to all the hard work the author did to make that series into essentially fascist propaganda.
7th Prince is peak "recommend only to the weirdest of your friends" trash and i'm glad it got a highlight here. A fun aspect of watching it week by week has been the crunchyroll comment section, 7 episodes in and there's still people surprised that the mc is so skimpily dressed. It's hilarious watching folks who might not blink at a loli being dressed like that absolutely lose their minds about some short shorts being on a boy. They would never survive Black Butler.
@@mothersbasement that's true, and i wonder if those sorts of comments will die down after the most recent episode since that should probably be a line for the folks who didn't even get used to the short shorts. "op mad scientist mage" is a type of character type i didn't know i needed, but this one scratches the itch so good i wonder if there'd be anything that comes close. to say nothing of the devil's bargain the studio must've made to have it look so damn good.
Oh boy, I just read an absolutely incensed summary of where Vampire Dormitory goes later on by a disgruntled manga reader, and all I can say is this: I hope they get to the *really* stupid stuff sooner rather than later, because this sounds fucking incredible.
@@rb4121I don't want to spoil it for the people who might prefer to be surprised, but in short, the dramatic plot reveals and gender-bending shenanigans don't get any less absurd, and they *certainly* don't get any more heterosexual. Or cisgender, frankly. Or tasteful.
For that last one you forgot to mention the best part, the fact that when the mc sees new magic he straight up becomes a masochistic psycho who lets his opponents get free hits just so he can feel the spells, only to then obliterate TF out of them
I've enjoyed "I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability" and "As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I'll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World" surprisingly much
Same here! Definitely didn't expect those to be so entertaining. Though I have to say that the sexualisation of the 7th prince is a bit too much for me at times. If they tone that down, it'll be a legit show to recommend.
@@Alias_Anybody Yeah I'm saying brown is rare, but also isekai in particular has a bunch of white hair protagonists even if everyone else has regular hair. Off the top of my head kazama and maybe rudeus are the only ones that come to mind for isekai protag.
I love that you somehow make the conceit of these videos even more tortured and bizarre with each new season. First it was the explanations of the rating scale, then the differentiation between trash and garbage, now we're into full blown existential crisis over the dissonance between the restaurant concept and youtube.
At first I thought Re:Monster had potential, what with him being killed by his ex and him trying to find her to take his revenge, but it's basically a dungeon crawl with more and more sexual exploits bordering on assault. The characters are fun but they can only pull the story so far, the plot is basically non-existent.
They are also imprisoned in cages in the dark indefinitely, on top of the drugs, until they ‘’consent’’, so... yeah. I don’t like that or what it says about the author’s understanding of words
Walmart Overlord. That's pretty spot on. I love the ep 1 bait/switch of Oh we did the whole SAO plot as background, here you go. I love the total edgelord of his outfit as well. Like it's an MMO totally would've been a thing.
Glad you (at least somewhat) enjoyed Chillin' In Another World. Read the novel, though. It's pretty good. Plus, Flio and Rhys are absolutely devoted to each other, deeply in love, and wind up having a whole mess of kids (including adopting), while the girls who pined for him eventually find their own men to hook up with, get married, and have their own kids. And the series is still ongoing. Because the author understands that having an infinitely powerful protagonist immediately kills all the stakes, with bad things only happening due to the protagonist's inattention, indifference, or outside his knowledge. So the story isn't really about how powerful he is. It's about the characters in his orbit: Rhys, the four knight trainees, the Dark One and his brother, his brother's masochist succubus secretary, the fallen blonde hero and his attendant, the king and the princess, and all the many children that pop up.
@15:11 Absolutely correct. Indisputably burning garbage. Outro totally slaps though which is so strange and tempts me to just watch every episode for that at the end.
New Gate's animation quality is so atrociously low end I'm concerned they had a single guy animating everything with 2 seconds to do a whole episode. And then Banished Hero popped up this season.... Love that he got caught by the 7th Prince too. The author and the mangaka have both worked to make a crazy, weird, awful, trashy, amazing, wonderful, weird, hilarious series.
To be fair, "Best Girl" is relative as everyone has their own tastes, but I suppose there would be a baseline understanding of the qualities that would make up a "Best Girl." Thus, being the default one means the average qualities are present.
Honestly, Im really digging Vampire Domitory. Yes its trash, but the scene of the MC cross-crossdressing (doublecrossdressing if u will) makes my fujoshi cavewoman brain very happy
In a better show, a villain’s ideology about how the power you gain yourself (ie levelling) is superior to the gifts God gives you because levelling lets you retain your autonomy as a person instead of being beholden to a higher power would actually be really interesting.
Re:Monster was such a letdown. The first few episodes were good, with the RPG elements being solid and the pace being very rapid. It seemed lighthearted with a hidden darkness behind the scenes, suggesting that the main character was morally grey. Then it just spiraled out of control when every single human woman he captured and was holding captive joined his harem. They just completely lost their original motivations for living so that they could follow MC Goblin Demon Lord. He became OP so fast that there are no stakes anymore.
so I could be wrong, cause it was a long time ago and I can't find another reference to it, but I remember reading once that Re:Monster is what inspired Goblin Slayer... so at least that good came of it.
Comparing 7th prince to OPM is actually on point. The manga gets ODDLY compelling through the other characters going through their own shit while OP MC does his own thing.
finally someone gives 7th prince the recognition it deserves. especially its animation. they did not need to go so hard on the spells but damn it's fun to look at.

My mom making me wait until she was free to watch this with me was worth it to hear her coo about how cute Geoff looks in pink, although - and this is a direct quote - "the way that fabric is cut is doing nothing for his shoulders". My mom's comments, listed in order of an anime's appearance on the list:
"Everyone in this anime is friend-shaped and adoptable." "Mom, what does that mean?" "It's in their eyes."
"Red Kirito. Redito. Oh, I like that! That makes it sound like he's from Reddit." Later: "Oh, no, never date twins. Learned that one the hard way."
"As a redhead almost too beautiful to bear, it's nice to finally have some representation." Later: "Is the implication that Ruka is too dumb to know what a girl's chest feels like, or does she just have no breasts at all? Because I don't buy the former, but the latter would be a nice message to send to girls in an era where everyone on Tiktok has huge boobs - not only do you not need those, but true love doesn't care if they're there at all." "Mom, I *promise* you, they weren't being that progressive with it."
Physically hitting pause on the video herself and taking a deep breath: "He could have kept his wife alive by using birth control. Medieval birth control sucked, but there WERE options. His wife died because he was too horny to think."
"I'm adopting this protagonist." "You can't say that every single time we watch one of these." "Yes I am. I'm your mom. I outrank you."
"Having broken my bully's arm: it didn't help me back in the day." "...what?" "Oh, one time when I was 8 I broke a 15 year old's arm. I watched a lot of wrestling as a kid. But nobody thought I was cool for doing it, is my point." "..."
"After mastectomies to get rid of breast cancer, if you don't moisturize your nipples, they can fall off. Your grandma taught me that. She saw some wild stuff in the ER. This isn't a mystery, it's a PSA."
After multiple attempts to contain her giggles: "Gobro means... it's like the Serbian equivalent of himbo... Himbo-sama the goblin..."
"There's an anime for Nascar fans. That's nice. Anime is so inclusive!"
"I love the idea of an 'ex' dragon goddess. That makes me think she got fired for gambling with company money."
"This feels like it's not bad, it's just camp. I'm not sure camp counts as trash."
"I like that there's no limit on how long a title can be in Japan. I don't like the way these women are interacting with this child." Later: "Is this guy neurodivergent? Talking about rocks and not noticing obvious social cues at the same time... I may have to adopt this one, too."

"that's every kind of phobic at once" briefly made my mind flash to an alternate reality where instead of "misogynistic" everyone said "gynophobic"
@@dontmisunderstand6041 I considered myself as well-versed in English. So, thank you for teaching me more.
All you're doing by insisting that hatred for the LGBTQ or aliens is rooted in fear is delegitimizing the stigmatization of that hatred.
misandristic
The Vampire Dormitory wig reveal goes so hard like how do you put so many "living a double life" cliches without actually including both lives?
One thing I don't understand is why manganime seems to accept and enjoyshorthaired girls, yet almost every time a guy turns into a girl it comes with free hair lengthening and almost every time a girl dresses as a man, it comes with a short hair wig... even in cases where the hair the girl hides below the wig doen't even reach shoulder length.
@@jorgelotr3752
A short haired girl in baggy clothes looks far too similar to a short haired guy in baggy clothes, especially with normal animation quality.
The real question is how the fuck does she keep her long hair underneath such a short wig
10:00. That taking off wig scene sent me! Even Ouran knew that women are allowed to have short hair.
it sounds like not much in that anime makes sense like a poor homeless orphan owing a realistic wig instead of just cutting her hair or her getting fired because she brings in too many customers? like oh no how dare you make me so much money.
You say “even Ouran” but that manga was kind of ahead of its time in a lot of ways. IF THE FATHER OF THE MC hates Gifts because he thinks god controls you through them then why did he cast out the MC when he didn't get a gift
If I hate gifts then having a son with no gift seems like a blessing, you can even push your ideal of levels being better by training him and show everyone that he is still better without a gift.
For a minute I forgot that this is trash and tried to use logic
Because it was that incident that made him hate gifts, and his son is the reason.

Absolutely correct.
"Best girl by default" is the funniest classification for a character I stg
To be fair, "Best Girl" is relative as everyone has their own tastes, but I suppose there would be a baseline understanding of the qualities that would make up a "Best Girl." Thus, being the default one means the average qualities are present.
Honestly, Im really digging Vampire Domitory. Yes its trash, but the scene of the MC cross-crossdressing (doublecrossdressing if u will) makes my fujoshi cavewoman brain very happy
i am now sold
Double reverse crossdressing is peak fiction.
Finally our sisters have something good to eat too.
Thanks for the spotlight on Mysterious Disappearances, definitely one of my more surprising favorites from this season.
" the isekai harem with an OP MC is an isekai harem with OP MC "
You're a clown
He got a long list of skills he would never use too.
That kinda describes Reincarnated as a Slime perfectly as well.
I died at "Re:Ady" then double died at "Re:dBear".
Having the worst day, now I get the best meal. Truly props to chef geoff
Hope your day turns around from here!
idk why but the trash bag dirigible contraption award might be the funniest thing I’ve ever seen
Oh no no no, by looking at the colored edition of the manga, one can see that going hard with the magic is the first requirement.
@@maoulegna its the mob psycho anime equivalent of the art style changing into manga, but in reverse. reality bending
Beaten me to this exact comment! 7'th prince is a great show. I also love the opening song with touching lyrics about the spirit of curiosity.
I don't even watch that many animes nowadays, but chez garbage is one of my favorite things ever. Pointing and laughing at trash anime is never going to get old
You say you lost your tux in customs, but i think you *know* this one is an upgrade
Depends on the man. Some men just can't pull off pink. Luckily, he can.
I await these videos every season. The humor and the occasional subversive banger in disguise are the highlights of my anime watching endeavors.
Thank you for dunking so hard on Vampire Dormitory in only the way that you can. I watched the first 2 episodes of it before dropping it and it was cathartic to see it get razzed
I used to watch your Trash pieces only for occasional funny. No more. I can't no longer do the 3-episode thing before dropping. You, sir, are adding years to my life and providing a much needed public service.
"Aqua/10"
I am stealing that insult.
Every visit to Chez Garbage just reaffirms that I'm reading the right trash manga. Because every season so far at least a few become excellent trash anime.
“Whatever the opposite of sweet spot is” i.e. it’s the still-frozen-spot in microwave meals.
So glad you're not sleeping on 7th Prince anymore. It's going to keep getting better. The manga is fantastic.
this season of Konosuba is outdoing the previous two without breaking a sweat imo, I always found it very good and fun but I've spent every single episode laughing out loud this time around. It's like it got into its groove and it's so, so polished
Really shocked that you didn't raze 7th Prince into the ground, but as someone who is (probably) an addict to the show, I am glad too see that you share mostly the same opinion!!
That being said if you think the anime is fun ohhhhhhh boy you NEED to check out the manga. Honestly don't know how this is a weekly manga because the art, especially when it becomes just a fully coloured manga, is outstanding.
And reaction faces, LOTS of amazing reaction faces. (my pfp included)
As someone who was bullied, had spongebob as one of their first hyperfixations and wanted to be a youtuber when they were younger that manwha adaption is... Very interesting to see.
Normally when i visit Che Garbage, I have a good laugh at the menu and leave. Vampire Dormitory is the first offering I have felt truly satisfied with. 10/10 my compliments to the chef.
