21:23 the funniest part about that live action footage is that the character literally says "WOW this is so much easier than doing it by hand!" which is both in reference to of course him plowing the fields with a machine instead of by hand, but also a meta joke about the animators just throwing an anime filter over live action footage instead of animating it by hand
Kamikatsu is literally a dnd campaign I played once, 7 bards and a wheel of cheese. We all played bards and pretended to be clerics praying to a wheel of cheese, using bardic inspiration and bard spells to perform "miracles" until the cheese actually gained sentience and then godhood.
SAME, except ours was a doll replica of a character we met who was basically an exact replica (visually) of Spamton from Deltarune that was our shop keeper who's storage area was literally the backrooms
@@user-xu2pi6vx7o ... he literally said that's basically Kamikatsu, Kamikatsu IS that anime it's comedy gold though i have been thinking it would be really fun if a Studio dedicated itself to playing really off the walls DnD Campaigns and then making an anime on it, i think that would be AMAZING
I also loved the tonal dissonance of the character becoming skinny and therefore "hot", with characters either malding or creaming their jorts, and the show insisting that he isn't being treated specially because of the obvious contrived pretty privilege, but rather, because he is such a nice guy who saves m'ladies and is morally upstanding. It was hilarious mental cartwheels.
I had to keep watching episodes to see how far the trainwreck would slide. EVERY scene of him in public has people drooling over him, and he has zero self awareness to realise that people only like him because he's "hot". The message of "just be hot" is insane, even if it doesn't ever directly say it out loud.
The writing is so, so bad, too. There are several points where characters do and say stupid shit just to set up the MC to get applauded. Like the *supposedly* super strong and wise super-bunny rabbit stupidly mentioning the MC by name to a totally evil nihilistic super loli (who definitely won't be somehow converted into the harem at some point later🙄) which leads to said super loli trying and of course failing to kill the MC. Or the team of *supposedly* top-class professional assassins attempting an assassination on the king, while plotting to pin the hit on the MC whether they succeed or fail, only to go into the operation carrying damning evidence leading straight back to their actual client. There's probably more nonsense to find, but that's the 2 that I noticed right off the bat when I watched this dumpster fire, and I don't care to waste my life finding more.

Honestly ‘I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in the Real World, too’ feels like the writer sent this idea to their publisher as a joke and the publisher actually liked it and published it.
Yea I stopped watching that after a couple of episodes, same with the aristocrat in another world or some shit. Near the middle of episode 2 I gave up on it
That cheat skill in another world/real world isekai sounds like something I would write in high school, but would never publish due to abject embarrassment
A part of me thinks that it would've served his character better if we at least got a montage of him exercising. But I'm not sure if that would make sense
@@tailsinafunnyhamsterball5555 In the light novels, he mentions that he and his grandpa would run and try to do stuff. Yuuya really hates himself because even though he would try to get fit / loose weight (eat very little), nothing changed (he just got fatter).
Kamikatsu is honestly the hardest I’ve laughed at an animé this season. It knows exactly what it is, has no shame, and will somehow make you consider deeply philosophical topics seconds before hitting you with truly atomic levels of tonal whiplash.
The show was so messed up, it was genius. Sadly he only covered the first half and didn't mention the other gods in the series. Also, the Aphrodite arc... Which was... Something.
I can’t believe Wit Studio went from Attack on Titan to… shilling NFTs. They’ve still got Ranking of Kings and Spy x Family to fall back on, but I think we can all agree that’s still the LOWEST of lows.
Cheat Skill *could* have become passable if focused more on Yuuya overcoming his image issues. Even something as small as having trust issues would have been good since he still isn’t used to people being nice to him. Just because his body changed doesn’t mean his mental and emotional trauma goes away. It wouldn’t be “good”, but at least it would give the main character some potential development and give him more depth than a puddle.
Yeah, like the number 1 complaint from people who went from ugly fat to muscular is how people do a full 180 on how they treat you and how pesimistic seeing this makes you
@@________dQw4w9WgXcQ The series would at least be engaging if its message was something along the lines of “it doesn’t matter how many overpowered skills you have, if you want to improve yourself you have to put the work in”. Show us Yuuya fighting and overcoming those insecurities so we have something to root for.
There is a light novel somewhat like that; not sure if it has been adapted yet. Dude's mother told him that she hates his guts because of his face and shortly after that he gets isekai'd by a falling flower pot. So whenever people in the isekai world comment about him he assumes they're referring to his face. The plot is somewhat similar to the Aristocrat show in this video, where it turns out that the god of the isekai world gave him divine level cheats.
Definitely. The character in question even says “This is so much easier than doing it by hand” when the infamous tractor made its appearance. True brilliance right there.
It normie checks hard but is genuinely anime of the year contender for me. The constant shitposting is 10/10 and it actually has a strong story and interesting themes around religion and especially cults
I like to say Kamikatsu is perverted but in a cool way, not in the way in which most anime are just giving japanese permavirgins something to jerk off to.
@@SpyHunter89 I can't imagine him following through with such horrible pronunciations so consistently if he didn't know enough French to find the mispronunciations hilarious.
Best gag of the first episode from The Hero Is Dead was when he declared out loud "any man would put stocking on their best radish!" And then two older men reacted and tried to hide their radishes with stocking deeper in their coats
the hero is dead manga later has a female boss monster with medusa eyes on her booba, and the mc is immune because he only stares at her legs during the fight.

Cigarettes, and trashy magazines. It's amazing how there's so much "fan-service", but the tone and character expressions go out of their way to make you feel embarrassed about it 😂
I'm glad Kamikatsu is getting recognized for being a bonkers shitpost anime. Frankly, I think them just giving up on the idea of going for quality and just bullshitting their way through the animation is pretty fuckin' punk rock.
actually the author posted a tweet conforming that everything they did wasn't really a Budget Issue (at least not up front) it was all %100 on purpose and he was even approached by one of the staff members asking them if he thought it would be funny to use IRL footage for that tractor part
“And then the whole other world clapped” is such a perfect way to describe that lmao. I was watching it as one of those ironic watches for the season, but it was almost TOO exaggerated for me. It was funny a few times (especially that one bicycle kick scene), but I don’t know if I can keep going multiple times an episode every episode.
I feel the same way - in that same episode the siblings instantly start worshipping Yuuya because he made some vague remark about family... the level of recognition Yuuya receives is constantly creeping higher and higher into the realm of messianic worship.
@@kgniku503 Your comment just changed my thought process of these isekai's, they are literally one step away from accidentally just flat out creating a new religion in the new world without even fucking trying. The authors wrote every character other than the mc like they are the followers of Jesus Christ telling his tales, and THE AUTHORS DON'T EVEN REALIZE IT. Edit: This new thought process makes me laugh so much because i'm thinking that all these stories are literally just retelling of how Christianity came to be (ofc it's not 1 to 1 im just saying it as a joke). And the crazy part is in this whole comment i was not talking about the Religion based cult isekai Basement mentioned at all.
@@DioBrando-112 I literally thought that. This light novel isn't a story, it's a religious text. Maybe even worse, since at least religious texts try to teach you morals (most of them are outdated, but we would benefit from aplying some of those morals), while this show just says: "look how cool this guy is, don't you want to worship him and dream you where him?
In the same way that Kaguya Sama Love is War gets praised for its creativity and animation quality, Kamikatsu deserves praise for the same reasons but on the opposite side of the spectrum. It's a prime example of making all the wrong decisions in the absolute best way possible. It's for sure not the best show of the season, but I don't remember being this invested in something this unhinged since like FLCL
Also, someone else described Kamikatsu as what would happen if Bocchi the Rock's artistic variety was not the result of talented artists deliberately going bananas, but overworked artists cobbling together an entire one-cour anime in a matter of days.
Kamikatsu it’s basically a dumpster fire anime. The recent episodes just tossed fan service napalm into the dumpster and kicked it on a collision course with a fireworks depot. In a good way.
FYI, I know that a lot of the “bad” decisions were done purposely, that’s entirely the point I was making. In other shows stuff like bad cgi or real life footage would normally have people outraged, but here it comes off as them having a lot of fun since they lay out a really good framework of expectation straight out of the gate
the fact that Kamikatsu did all of their CGI, IRL footage and Pixel Art on purpose is hilarious, especially because there are actually moments with good animation here and there AND it's ON PURPOSE, it's part of the batshit insanity of the series, the author actually posted a tweet about one of the staff (i believe it was the producer but i could be wrong) literally came up and asked him about using IRL Footage for a bit, besides that the Voice Acting is so f***ing good at times for the weirdest stuff, it's clear the entire team behind the anime just had fun while making it and it's so heart warming to see that, i mean hell, the part where we first see the IRL Footage the guy literally says word for word "So much easier then doing it by hand" and then the same guy later on has a moment of Movie Quality animation just for him freaking out in the same episode we see a CGI monster explode like a Lego Build in a 3DS Lego Game, it's probably one of my favorite anime's this season because the amount of passion put in to make it goofy and fun is very notable from just about every person from the staff I should also point out the guy that wrote the story did a good few episodes of script for the Konosuba Anime
“I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in the Real World, Too” is the most unapologetic self insert anime you will ever see. Most if not all of the episodes consist of Yuuya saving at least one girl, character(s) mentioning how good looking Yuuya is, and Yuuya showing off how OP he is.
I think the anime knows and is just having fun with the concept. Also, Yuuya spends _a lot_ of time doubting himself because he hasn't gotten over all the bullying he endured when he was fat. That kind of abuse and trauma doesn't go away overnight, even if every pretty girl in a 10 block radius (in both worlds) is falling over themselves to get with him. So the anime _knows_ it's trashy and uses that trashiness to try and tell a compelling story.
@@andrewowens4421 I’m certain that it does know what it’s doing, and it does *try* to tell a compelling story; but unfortunately the story isn’t that compelling. I admit that him having lingering trauma is a nice touch, but that alone doesn’t take away the fact it’s a trashy self-insert anime with a Gary Stu MC
My mom watches these with me ever since Geoff got her into anime. She was in the hospital when this video came out yesterday, but now that she's back, here are her takes on the anime presented, in order. "This feels like the anime with the weird kid with the blonde hair and deep tan." "Love Hina?" "Did that have that girl with the hair like-" /puts her hands up to her head like hair antennae/ "Yes." "Yeah. Like that. But I actually remember how this main guy looks. I don't remember the guy from the other one." "He has shaggy hair like a sheepdog!" /cooing noises/ "Aw, he has friends! That's so cute! He's a sword baby with pals." My mom fell over laughing because radish is slang for d!ck in her native language so for a second she thought Geoff was implying this guy ran a gay brothel. Which she then thought would be a great idea for an anime. She had no thoughts on the actual anime being discussed. (Context: my mom is a psychologist.) "I can't tell if I really want to have a session with the writers and find out where this premise came from or if I want them to sign an agreement they'll never come near me." Also, repeatedly: "This is so pretty. I love her hair." "His FAMILY bullies him?" /actual angry sputtering/ "I'm adopting him." "Mom, he has magic and stuff, I'm sure he's fine." "I'm making him soup, I'm talking to him about self-worth and then I'm going to explain to his parents that they should have valued him at any weight because PLENTY of people struggle to have kids and they didn't treasure the one they had-" "Mom, you're talking over the plot." "I don't CARE, he can be a Mickey Stu-" "Mary Sue." "-he can be a Mary Moo and it doesn't make his parents less bad!" "If there's baptisms, is there Isekai Jesus?" Later: "If they weren't cowards they'd give him a mom as a love interest. The sister thing is boring. More MILTS." "MILTS?" "Moms I'd like to smooch." "Having worked with actual cult survivors, this is genuinely less insane than their actual lives." Later: "I like the parallels between cults and authoritarian governments. I kind of wasn't expecting that much good writing from something that looks, uh. Um." /visibly trying to be nice/ "Unconventionally medium-blending." "NFTs are still a thing? I thought your generation had moved on from them, like how mine got over capris after a few years."
I really like Kamisatsu. It uses bad animation to its fullest to make us laugh. Anime was always about making some scene great using a low cost budget. But this anime completely innovates in this aspect and push it to an extreme.
@@danielq2358 Exactly. I'm sure they have a fair budget, or they deliberately asked for so little. Either way, there's little doubt that they deliberately went cheap on some of the animation, specifically to enhance the satirical humor, or make the world feel unique.
I'd love to know how people in Japan feel about Cheat Skill in Another World. Back when the LNs first got released in English, a pretty common complaint was that the series felt like it was written by a middle schooler. Some of us even referred to it with terms like "And Then Everybody Clapped: The Series". Just boggles my mind that a series that was so obviously awful right from the get-go managed to somehow get an anime adaptation. I mean, I get that a lot of tropey and generic stuff has that "guilty pleasure" vibe for a lot of people, but that series? It doesn't even have that imo.
You are correct in your assumption. I read here that was written when this guy was in university. At one hand, I'm appalled by the fact that someone's wet dreams can become animated. At the other hand, he can how flip the bird to his bullies.
Kizuna no Allele is basically the starting plot of Little Witch Academia with a non-fungible coating of something that makes it glow under a UV-A lamp...
At 21:41 it’s worth noting that from the start, the director of Kamikatsu pitched that he wanted to intentionally do the CGI monsters, 16-bit pixel, and real life tractor scenes. All for the sake of having a laugh which the author thought was brilliant.
I’m not a Kizuna Ai fan, but as someone who loves Vtubers, I was curious to see what the anime would be like. I went in with low expectations but it was worse than I could have imagined. Given everything that happened to her in the last years of her career, and how much of an impact she had on the Vtubing world, this just feels like a slap in the face to her fans and legacy. Imagine someone doing this to your oshi, or favorite manga/LN you’d be furious too. I watched 4 episodes and quit. Shameless NFT shilling aside, it’s just boring and uninteresting. The people who made it clearly don’t know anything about Vtubers, or just skimmed a Wiki page. The animation is stiff, the 3D scenes look worse than thr mocopi streams I’ve seen a lot of Vtubers trying out and the music is acceptable at best. And why even bother putting Ai in rhe show when she rarely ever shows up? Just make this about 4 students who want to become Vtubers. But no they gotta milk whatever money they can out of Ai’s brand while they’re still able.
I dropped it after episode 1 because it was boring and either didn't understand or didn't care about what makes VTubers tick; the most interesting thing was the classroom scene, entirely because I turned it around in my head a bit and wrote about all the things that don't make sense. I can hardly believe it got worse.
Cheat skill IRL had the funniest thing this season excluding the shinda intro. The entire world did such a 180 after he hot abs that it made me stop and process the entire thing. Being fat is such a subhuman attribute that 99.9% of ppl are absolutely incapable of compassion. The thought of a little kid being "He's just like me" in the first scene, then having everything in his life crash just was incredible. Got a bonafide life lesson right there, don't be fat if you still want a chance in life.
Fun Fact: There's another KamiKatsu manga being made at the moment where the dude's invincible sister goes to the same isekai world to get pregnant with his kids, I'm not joking
I honestly think that if the "Everyone Clapped" anime did all it's wish fulfillment, while either keeping him looking the same or letting his weight loss be gradual, then it would be at least slightly above average.
There is a web novel and manhwa that does this well. It's called "I'll save this damned family" MC is dutiful, smart, and actually inspiring in how to realistically lose weight to become healthy, namely lots of hard work and time.

They also don't feel like real people to me, it feels like they're putting on an act to please the audience rather than be themselves, it's weird.
I don’t care what anyone else says, both *Kamikatsu* and *The Legendary Hero Is Dead* are the equivalent of a art piece displayed in the Louvre that happens to be made out of trash. Edit: Just to clarify, I love both of them though.
Really though. If you like fantasy comedies and don't mind a bit of ecchi, they're quite fun. Also why does KamiKatsu's protagonist look like Baki Hanma half the time?
It's not technically isekai rather it's time travel. The MC was taken forward in time where there was no religion or Gods. It will be years before the social commentary in this show is really appreciated for what it is.

Kamikatsu is actually enjoyable. It's definitely not boring, pretty funny and even unpredictable sometimes. The "bad animation" probably worked in it's favor, because it got people talking about the show.
Trivia about Kamikatsu: not only it is the only isekai this season based on a manga rather than a novel (if we exclude reverse isekai Dead Mount Dead Play), it has a very curious spin-off about protag-kun's older sister, a woman who took bodybuilding to godly levels and is thoroughly obsessed with her little brother. To illustrate both points, in reverse order, let's say that on one side not only did she get isekaied on purpose to follow after him in chapter 1, she basically starts chapter 2 shouting to the whole world her intention of getting with child by her brother, while on the other side she attempted every classic method of isekai transfer with results such as completely trashing Truck-kun, destroying blades with her abs or raising the profits of a slavedriver company through the roof just on power level alone, only to finally be allowed to undergo the same ritual as her brother as a reward for converting the charismatic rival cult leader that had been informing her on isekai transfer strategies to their cause thanks to her exploits, but with the following differencs: instead of being thrown in a ceremonial vessel among much rejoicing, she's thrown trapped in a metal barrel filled with concrete (which she explodes with a muscle flex once isekaied) among relief tinged with dread.
Kamikatsu is unironically my second favourite anime this season only after Oshi no Ko simply because Its been years since I couldn't predict the flow of an anime(im 24 and have been watching anime for the past 20 years) since the 2010s every episode something had me floored and I loved it, made me feel like I was watching anime from my kid years again I hope it gets a season 2
Agreed. As another 24 year old who has been watching anime since as far as I can remember. Kami and oshi are what I've just been loving this season. Love how even the trash is fun this year
I've said on numerous occasions that I'm so glad Oshi no Ko is airing this season so I can't say Kamikatsu isn't my favorite without also being a liar. And that's despite this season having several strong offerings.
Kamikatsu has such a cool buried msg of explaining how religion actually works in real life and how people get manipulated.. it changed my views on religion. Made me question a lot of things
You’re not giving Kamikatsu enough credit. It *does* look good when it wants to, Art and all. The show runner is literally the mangaka, so it’s most definitely all intentional for comedy, not just corner cutting. He was also one of the scriptwriters for Konosuba, so he’s no stranger to absurdist comedy.
Same, half the time I'm like "I can't believe this trash got an anime" and like, 10% of the time I'm hyped as hell and glad more people are gonna get to see the series. Really looking forward to Shangri-la frontier's anime, hope they do it well

Honestly, the the guy who got bullied story could've gone pretty badass if he had kept being chubby Seriously, we could use more diversity apart from the usual "tall, slim, fit, black haired" mc, and he looked honestly cooler before getting thin
@@dmath1490 the funniest part is that when we see his body he doesn't even look fat. bro looks like the words strongest nerd tbh. no Idea how he lost a fight when he's like 6 ft tall and 300 pounds of muscle.
Having read the manga, The Legendary Hero is Dead does end up having a decent plot and interesting world building while continuing to be unapologetically ecchi. It quickly ended up in my “God damn it Japan” list.
To be clear, MB isn't quite saying that this is his own opinion, more so he's saying this is what the anime is trying to get across in its first episode. Essentially, the anime really tries to drill in the fact that its protagonist is ostensibly extremely fat and ugly.
When I find out that the LN author also wrote “The Fruit of Evolution”, all the pieces fall in place. A MC who started short, overweight and people treat like dirt, goes to another world and now is tall, can put a bodybuilder in shame and get OP skill, items and girls left and right. At least this one somehow I’d been able to find some entertainment.
Honestly the isekai about being summoned to the world a second time would've been *way* more interesting if the premise was he had been the great hero of a fantasy world, saved the day but when sent back home had to deal with the mundane reality of no longer being the super OP chosen one. Having to adjust from that high and re-integrate himself back to our world.
Every time it cuts to the art of the protag that goes way too hard for no reason I laugh He's such a personality-less goober in the show but they draw him like a sex god in the ED
I think I remember someone from Valis (Like a vtuber idol group but they pretty much just do music videos and concerts rather than streaming as well) tweeting out that they did a song for the series but can't remember if it was the OP or ED, if it was the ED that doesn't come as a suprise.
@@daiselol I just checked out the ED to see what you meant and EXCUSE ME, who tf is t h a t nigga posed up on the rock!? Cuz he ain't in the damn show😭
Personally I'm a huge fan of The Legendary Hero is Dead manga. Practically every character has a gag associated with them and it continues to find ways to try and up the stakes on how far those gags can go while having some pretty great character development as the core plot itself is fairly serious and decently written. The finale is probabably the most ludicrous thing I have ever read and I hope somehow it gets some kind of animated adaptation.
Ok so I actually followed “The Hero Is Dead” manga for a while a few years ago and it’s actually very clever and has some great sincere moments. Don’t get me wrong it’s still ecchi and ridiculous, but the main character Touka is a pretty crafty dude and really evolves as as he has to find his own way of taking up the role of a hero. Then again, I don’t entirely trust my middle school opinions on manga so I’m definitely gonna have to revisit this one.
I still find the dumb jokes funny. I read it in early highschool thought it was the funniest shit. Now it's an anime I am laughing again just not quite as hard.
Your middle school opinions are pretty spot on since I'm an old man now and very much enjoy this manga. It has actual character development and a story to go with all of the ridiculous ecchi content.
Not an episode of Kamikatsu goes by where I'm not constantly laughing out loud and asking myself what the fuck I just watched. Those animators are masters of using a mixture of bad and good animation for maximum comedic effect.
As a french guy, it physically hurt to hear Geoff mispronounce EVERY french word coming out of his mouth ! (Yes, i know it's on purpose but it still hurt all the same)
bágueêttè just be glad if you're not a native german, and the anime starts using german words for character names (and also pretends like you couldn't deduce from the name what exactly that person is up to)
This series always raises my core temperature. It's like you've activated my flight-or-fight response. EDIT: And then I heard "fox pass" and had to defenestrate my computer. I'll send you an invoice for the repairs.
The best part about kamikatsu is that it switches from being a really unhinged shitpost to a pretty well animated show randomly like mitamas entrance actually looks pretty amazing and the main characters are never cgi unless it’s for a joke their drawn very fluidly it’s just everything else looks like a ps1 game
The thing is, I'd adore a show with a hero who gets summoned back to his old world with a bunch of his classmates and he just... vibes. Let the rest of the class go off and play hero, he's gotta go say hi to his old girlfriend(s), check out that restaurant he used to like, maybe finally visit that one resort town he swore he'd go to when all the the trouble died down. Basically, I want an isekai version of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. Incidentally, pretty sure that's getting an anime, so that's something to look forward to.
basically and Isekai similar to OP Spider where the main character is doing something different from the over all plot happening in the background, I'd be ok with that too
As a vtuber myself, the first red flag in Kizuna no Allele was that all the main characters look pretty much just like their avatars. Which is a huge letdown, and also not at all how vtubing works!! One thing I find really interesting about vtubing is the relation between the model's appearance and the appearance of the human behind it: in the case of companies, they tend to pick people who match the vibes of the models they commission , and in the case of indies who picked or designed the model themselves, it essentially becomes a way of expressing what their ideal self would look like. Very few people commission models that look 100% like them, and those who do are usually people who do both facecam streaming and vtubing on the same channel, and none of the characters in that show seem to be doing that at all. I think it would be really neat to have an anime about vtubing that actually examines it properly but evidently that is not what Allele is going to end up being.
That final show...dear lord. It was like watching motion capture of a person wearing a person suit. I haven't seen such creepy animation since the late 90s...
Cheat skill is 100% wish fulfillment but I will say that I think it does two things particularly well. The art style and the fact that Yuuya, after a life of scorn and ridicule, does not immediately think he’s the hottest thing in the room. He’s been conditioned to assume the position that there’s no chance anyone would ever find him attractive. I don’t know much about the original material besides that the anime and manga adaptations have things in slightly different orders so I don’t know if he suddenly gets a complex or not later. Of the trash isekai this season I personally thinks it’s on the better side. Though the constant, “he’s so hot, is he a model,” stuff we hear every time he steps outside is completely and utterly annoying.
It's unapolegetic in it's self-insert about Yuuya and I can't help but love that about it. But the fact that Yuuya really has some problems with accepting himself because he was bullied for so long _does_ make me interested in him. Out of every character in the story he's probably the most human, with the assassin girl being a close second. It's a interesting trash anime.
The light novels are really good (have really really good art ) and it we can see more in Yuuya's decision making which makes things more interesting (at least for me).
I think the author did learn a lot after "The Fruit of Evolution". I find Yuuya more grounded and believable, that he really see himself as average and everything good happening is just coincidence. Saichi, the very moment he got the bike helmet of concealment and the trench coat of power, I knew not even switching my brain off would allow me to get thru.
When I saw that Kamikatsu scene with the real-life footage with a filter and a headshot on, I bursted out laughing so hard! Absolute madlads to release that!
I can't wait to experience some of what this noble establishment has to offer this season. P.S Your writing on Cheat skill is some of the best comedic writing you've done in YEARS! Which is high praise because your videos usually get a chuckle out of me!
I bet the creators of Kamikatsu were just trolling. They do have the funds to make quality work, but they deliberately choose to use this “hot garbage” style
It's got that approach of "SpongeBob" or "Gumball", where they change up the animation to make it feel all the more bonkers, & make it feel unique, & it works perfectly.
It's interesting that I started watching this series to get recomendations, but now I'm just, yup, that's about right, watched every single one of them.

Kamikatsu is unironically one of my favorite animes of the season. It's funny af. PS: Your French pronunciation killed me, and I'm not even French lol.
The Legendary Hero Is Dead manga is pog as hell and actually finished, and it goes places a lot of trash does not, good places. Like yeah it has one speed and one speed only up until the very last issue, but oh man is it earnest and fun, especially the last few arcs.
That's fucking brilliant
Kamikatsu is just that good
Kamikatsu is literally a dnd campaign I played once, 7 bards and a wheel of cheese. We all played bards and pretended to be clerics praying to a wheel of cheese, using bardic inspiration and bard spells to perform "miracles" until the cheese actually gained sentience and then godhood.
Oh my god that sounds amazing!
When you cheese hard enough for the cheese the cheese gives you power in acknowledgement. That's pretty quintessential D&D and it sounds awesome.

Geoff's takedown of Cheat Skill may be the greatest anime capsule review I've ever seen. I've seen it 5 times, and it's legend.
I had to keep watching episodes to see how far the trainwreck would slide. EVERY scene of him in public has people drooling over him, and he has zero self awareness to realise that people only like him because he's "hot". The message of "just be hot" is insane, even if it doesn't ever directly say it out loud.
@@madmanmax120 Maybe it's the "cheat skill" conceit, taken to levels so absurd that even the protag doesn't know how to deal with it?

The name of that isekai'd hero? Albert Einstein.
@@DioBrando-112 I literally thought that. This light novel isn't a story, it's a religious text. I'm kinda surprised "And then the whole other world clapped" hasn't been used as an official anime title yet.
So apparently the 'Everyone claps for Shinji in a fever dream' scene is now a trope and at risk of becoming a genre. We live in a society XD
Oh, you missed the part where they said "Yes, we did this on purpose. We absolutely are having a blast trolling everyone".
pretty sure its on purpose
FYI, I know that a lot of the “bad” decisions were done purposely, that’s entirely the point I was making. In other shows stuff like bad cgi or real life footage would normally have people outraged, but here it comes off as them having a lot of fun since they lay out a really good framework of expectation straight out of the gate
the fact that Kamikatsu did all of their CGI, IRL footage and Pixel Art on purpose is hilarious, especially because there are actually moments with good animation here and there AND it's ON PURPOSE, it's part of the batshit insanity of the series, the author actually posted a tweet about one of the staff (i believe it was the producer but i could be wrong) literally came up and asked him about using IRL Footage for a bit, besides that the Voice Acting is so f***ing good at times for the weirdest stuff, it's clear the entire team behind the anime just had fun while making it and it's so heart warming to see that, i mean hell, the part where we first see the IRL Footage the guy literally says word for word "So much easier then doing it by hand" and then the same guy later on has a moment of Movie Quality animation just for him freaking out in the same episode we see a CGI monster explode like a Lego Build in a 3DS Lego Game, it's probably one of my favorite anime's this season because the amount of passion put in to make it goofy and fun is very notable from just about every person from the staff
I should also point out the guy that wrote the story did a good few episodes of script for the Konosuba Anime
His after-isekai image looks like Twink 101 for a BL anime 😂. MAYBE he could play a twunk. Maybe.
@@andrewowens4421 I’m certain that it does know what it’s doing, and it does *try* to tell a compelling story; but unfortunately the story isn’t that compelling.
I don't remember the guy from the other one."
"He has shaggy hair like a sheepdog!" /cooing noises/ "Aw, he has friends! That's so cute! He's a sword baby with pals."
My mom fell over laughing because radish is slang for d!ck in her native language so for a second she thought Geoff was implying this guy ran a gay brothel. Which she then thought would be a great idea for an anime. She had no thoughts on the actual anime being discussed.

"His FAMILY bullies him?" /actual angry sputtering/ "I'm adopting him." "Mom, he has magic and stuff, I'm sure he's fine." "I'm making him soup, I'm talking to him about self-worth and then I'm going to explain to his parents that they should have valued him at any weight because PLENTY of people struggle to have kids and they didn't treasure the one they had-" "Mom, you're talking over the plot." "I don't CARE, he can be a Mickey Stu-" "Mary Sue." "-he can be a Mary Moo and it doesn't make his parents less bad!"
"If there's baptisms, is there Isekai Jesus?" Later: "If they weren't cowards they'd give him a mom as a love interest. The sister thing is boring. More MILTS." "MILTS?" "Moms I'd like to smooch."
"Having worked with actual cult survivors, this is genuinely less insane than their actual lives." Later: "I like the parallels between cults and authoritarian governments. I kind of wasn't expecting that much good writing from something that looks, uh. Um." /visibly trying to be nice/ "Unconventionally medium-blending."

I really like Kamisatsu. It uses bad animation to its fullest to make us laugh. Anime was always about making some scene great using a low cost budget. But this anime completely innovates in this aspect and push it to an extreme.
The similarities in production philosophy to early South Park are readily apparent.

Right?? When he mentioned that Ai went missing and protag was the only one that believed in her, my mind went straight to LWA

Kamikatsu is actually enjoyable. It's definitely not boring, pretty funny and even unpredictable sometimes. The "bad animation" probably worked in it's favor, because it got people talking about the show.
Kamikatsu's "bad animation" is intentional while at the same time a workaround the anime's low budget by making it a part of the joke.
Kamikatsu is unironically my second favourite anime this season only after Oshi no Ko
simply because Its been years since I couldn't predict the flow of an anime(im 24 and have been watching anime for the past 20 years) since the 2010s
every episode something had me floored and I loved it, made me feel like I was watching anime from my kid years again
I hope it gets a season 2
Absolutely correct, i havent seen a show this unpredictable in years!
20:38
I call kamikatsu: working for God in a godless world
"Always sunny in an isekai world: The gang starts a cult"
Kamikatsu has such a cool buried msg of explaining how religion actually works in real life and how people get manipulated.. it changed my views on religion. Made me question a lot of things
That french prononciation though xD
Horrendously funny, extremely fitting.
Kamikatsu is unironically a contender for best anime of the season. love it every week
I swear this is the best series you’ve ever conceived. It doesn’t have one video that hasn’t made me bawl my eyes out with laughter
As a huge isekai manga fan, i'm glad that other people get to experience the bad mangas I have read in another art form
Same, half the time I'm like "I can't believe this trash got an anime" and like, 10% of the time I'm hyped as hell and glad more people are gonna get to see the series. Really looking forward to Shangri-la frontier's anime, hope they do it well
@@Batenam Shangri-la is getting an anime? Sick.
I couldn't stop laughing at the entire "And Then The Whole Other World Clapped" section with how accurate it was. Well done, thanks for the laugh! 😂
Lemme tell ya, Cheat Skill In Another World made a whole lot more sense when I found out it was written by the same guy behind Fruit of Evolution.
...
Yeah, yeah that makes a lot more sense now.
How did that guy manage to get two of his series greenlit like that? He must have friends in high places
This really is the worst timeline if that person got not one but two whole fanfictions adapted into anime
Ahh, I thought the main character looked familiar.
OH...right. Yeah, that tracks. Really feel like he should use the time in which he now writes THAT for some therapy instead. Don't know where this feel is coming from but I sense that he might have some deep rooted unsolved problems lying around his nog.
Thank you for saying all the French words correctly. I can't stand it when people leave half their words unpronounced
After Yuuya suplexed the bear and they made it a guard animal, I was hooked.
Honestly, the the guy who got bullied story could've gone pretty badass if he had kept being chubby
Seriously, we could use more diversity apart from the usual "tall, slim, fit, black haired" mc, and he looked honestly cooler before getting thin
Accel world is best you are gonna get, I'm sorry
No no you see the producer is an average redditor and wants to escape that life
@@dmath1490 the funniest part is that when we see his body he doesn't even look fat. bro looks like the words strongest nerd tbh. no Idea how he lost a fight when he's like 6 ft tall and 300 pounds of muscle.
It's meant as an escapism, how do you think it could attract viewership if the MC is a chubby dude ? Gotta get those views from pathetic losers
Gotta watch it as soon and as quickly as I can before it’s age restricted
Having read the manga, The Legendary Hero is Dead does end up having a decent plot and interesting world building while continuing to be unapologetically ecchi. It quickly ended up in my “God damn it Japan” list.
12:30 "he is the fattest, also the ugliest, even uglier than he is fat" this man doesnt sugarcoat his opinion and I respect that
To be clear, MB isn't quite saying that this is his own opinion, more so he's saying this is what the anime is trying to get across in its first episode. Essentially, the anime really tries to drill in the fact that its protagonist is ostensibly extremely fat and ugly.
nice to see you here again
I don't think that's actually Geoffs opinion, though.
@@UFLVR Kinda wish he'd stayed the way he was, maybe a protagonist who actually had to rely on his personality is too much to ask.
Man I'll never get bored of MB's pristine pronunciation of the french lexicon
I am going to wind up with a blu-ray of Kamikatsu some day, and I'm not going to know why.
Sissekai has an incredible ED that is vastly better than it deserves.
Every time it cuts to the art of the protag that goes way too hard for no reason I laugh
He's such a personality-less goober in the show but they draw him like a sex god in the ED
The ED made me believe that the show has a story. It doesn't. I dropped it after like 4 episodes.
more like Sussekai
I think I remember someone from Valis (Like a vtuber idol group but they pretty much just do music videos and concerts rather than streaming as well) tweeting out that they did a song for the series but can't remember if it was the OP or ED, if it was the ED that doesn't come as a suprise.
@@daiselol I just checked out the ED to see what you meant and EXCUSE ME, who tf is t h a t nigga posed up on the rock!? Cuz he ain't in the damn show😭
The most correct sounding pronunciations of French words anyone in Canada has ever uttered.
Protag-kun sure has an interesting isekai, it almost made me think he was talking about multiple characters.
It also has a sequel series!
@@fakesmile172it does?! I just deprived myself of sleep 2 days to work and read the manga.
@@GustavoMartinez-op9gs
It's subtitled The Land of the Gods and it started in 2022.
(Yes, i know it's on purpose but it still hurt all the same)
My man is even Canadian
Tell me about it
Well, as he is Canadian, I think we can be certain it was all very much on purpose.
bágueêttè
just be glad if you're not a native german, and the anime starts using german words for character names (and also pretends like you couldn't deduce from the name what exactly that person is up to)
Very certain he did it on purpose to enhance the trashiness of the episode.
I love how each hottest trash video Geoff goes deeper and deeper into the trash cafe rp, and I'm here for it
This series always raises my core temperature. It's like you've activated my flight-or-fight response.
EDIT: And then I heard "fox pass" and had to defenestrate my computer. I'll send you an invoice for the repairs.
Took me a while to realize that he did there. I thought I had missed a scene with an actual fox.
I can never decide if Kamikatsu is completely dumb or pure genius. Either way I couldn't stop watching if I tried.
So it’s the ninja slayer of isekai…I might watch it TBH
All these isekai really make me appreciate how well written and humble Mushoku Tensei is. Can’t wait for July 2!
Incidentally, pretty sure that's getting an anime, so that's something to look forward to.
basically and Isekai similar to OP Spider where the main character is doing something different from the over all plot happening in the background, I'd be ok with that too
Frieren anime is out this fall!
Sigh, I am supposed to be on a trash-free diet... but this menu is giving me some terrible cravings. Gonna have to take a cheat day.
The way he mispronounces French words in the most creative ways possible is infuriating yet impressive.
I'm sold. Time to let my inner raccoon out and dig in on Kamikatsu.
It's hands down one of the best anime of the season.
I want an entire summary of the whole world clapped. Your reading is hilarious.
YES! Your Hottest Trash videos have been my most watched videos on TH-cam lately 😂❤️
That's... really common though, at least in the manga I've read. Kinda one of the tropes I'm getting sick of tbh.
@@andrewowens4421except he gets over it after thw fight with the gang
I was hoping Rokudo’s Bad Girls would be included here. Not enough people are talking about it.
Only seen one episode. Seems funny and cute
It was pretty good ngl. I’m sad as well no one mentions it. Definitely slept on
When I saw that Kamikatsu scene with the real-life footage with a filter and a headshot on, I bursted out laughing so hard!
Absolute madlads to release that!
Lmao the NFT one made my eyes rolle so hard, wtf were they thinking 😂
The beasts in KamiKatsu is the biggest troll job ever 😂. I’m pretty sure they just used the worse AI imaginable to do just for giggles.
"Fateful date with truck-kun" is a phrase I never thought I'd hear and now I'm definitely stealing it.
The one thing I will give kamikatsu is that at least the knowledgeable mc is not a dumbass, pervert, or scumbag and the amine is actually kinda fun.
It worked for South Park, once upon a time.
It's got that approach of "SpongeBob" or "Gumball", where they change up the animation to make it feel all the more bonkers, & make it feel unique, & it works perfectly.
I'm really enjoying "The Legendary hero is Dead." As long as you don't think about it too hard, it's goofy good fun with plenty of imagination.
kamikatsu no doubt is the best comedy of this season
Hands down, alongside "Explosion"
The way you explained Cheat Skill IRL just made me think of Monty Python's "and there was much rejoicing".
It's interesting that I started watching this series to get recomendations, but now I'm just, yup, that's about right, watched every single one of them.
In that first anime Cafe Terrace, Grandma definitely knew what she was doing
taking all those girls into the home for our protagonist to get trapped with...
Just found out the Barbie movie is an isekai
Oh my god I need to watch it even harder now
@@mothersbasement why stop there? There's tons of other “western iskeais" you could review too. *Cyberchase* , *Outlander* , and *The Neverending Story* just to name a few are all Isekais too. And in the case of *Cyberchase* specifically it also fits into the category of Harem too.

- *Thomas and the Magic Railroad*
- *The Nightmare Before Christmas*
- *Coraline*

I love the descriptions of all the shows and their special awards haha! Truck-kun especially hit hard 😂
The Legendary Hero Is Dead manga is pog as hell and actually finished, and it goes places a lot of trash does not, good places. Like yeah it has one speed and one speed only up until the very last issue, but oh man is it earnest and fun, especially the last few arcs.
