      Depends on what you mean by “meant to.” Subjective. Because Rolex KNOWS that a good percentage of their watches will never be worn. Patek Phillipe knows this as well. Casio has no such assumption. So if a watch was made knowing that it very well may be in a display case and traded because they know it will hold it’s value better than a car or most other large investments, can we say that it is “meant” to be worn?

      Marketing is about psychology where a person is convinced they must have that Brand Name. A watch is just an accessory at the end of the day. I have enough confidence and self esteem to where me as a person is the most important Brand name. I can wear a Rolex Pro Diver and be just as confident as anyone wearing a Rolex. To each, his own.

    My question is who is paying $500+ for an Invicta? The only Invicta really worth buying is the Pro Diver and that will cost you like $60 for decent construction/homage design, nice movement, some OK lume, and decent water performance. And it will last for quite a while. You can bang it up and wear it out and not be afraid of getting robbed for it. Get tired of it after a few years? Who cares about it reselling since you spent $60? It's probably cheaper to throw away and buy a new one than get it serviced! I bet you can get at least $30 if you do want to resell it. Or even just give it away to a kid with a budding watch interest. It's a great deal on a disposable item.

      There are a lot of high-quality watches that eclipse Invicta's current gaudy oversized clown watches and will set you back less than $500 USD. In fact, over time, many Invicta watch "collectors" (hoarders) end up spending tens of thousands of dollars buying trash Invicta watches when they could just spend a couple of thousand and buy a quality luxury watch (no, does not have to be a $12k Rolex) once and it will last them a lifetime. It is actually cheaper in the end. Ever wonder why Invicta always exaggerates their MSRP to then "discount" their watches by like 50 to 75 percent? It is because they understand their consumer demographic very well, and they know that their repeat consumers will always think they are getting a great deal. Now, turn the clock back to 2007, and those Invictas, for the most part, were a much better design and quality.

    Imagine buying a candle for $1000. In the modern era we light our homes with LED bulbs but imagine buying a candle for $1000. This is like buying a luxury mechanical watch that you don't even use to tell time because you have quartz watches for that. Luxury mechanical watches are the real scam on the wealthy

    • @AvroBellow
      @AvroBellow 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, yes and no. Mechanical watches are a bit of an art form at a high enough level. I agree that Rolex and Omega are scams but watches like Patek Philippe and A.Lange & Sohne would definitely qualify as mechanical art. Also, sure, mechanical watches aren't as accurate as quartz watches but watch nerds always love a reason to have to fiddle with their watches and so setting the time weekly scratches that itch. I also have to admit, from my own experience, that watching a ticking second hand is kinda "meh" but watching a sweeping second hand can be mesmerising.

People are not buying Invicta watches to resell, their buying them because even watch snobs like yourself admit their a great watch for the money. What most watch snobs don’t like about the Invictas is some of their over the top giant styles, people might not like the style, but they have to admit their are are great watch for the money. And besides, Invicta does make plenty of less in your face style watches. It’s not a poor people’s watch, it a watch for people who know good value when they see it, unlike yourself.

    Where do you have the prices from? The whole point in Invictas is you get decent quality cheaply below $100. The Pro Diver and Grand Diver beat others at that price point and have an ok Seiko movement. The punch above their price point not below.

    I understand what he is saying and yes, he is quite correct in saying that spending a lot of $$ on Invictas and most other watch brands is NOT an investment, but a waste of $$. Quite true. However, if you are just buying a few watches because you like them and don't spend too much (under $350 USD per watch), then it is ok. If you buy 50 watches or more, then you are truly wasting your $$. Actually, ALL watches lose value over time unless you own a Rolex and your name is Paul Newman (his watch auctioned for $15 million). By the way, an 18K gold Rolex Day/Date model may set you back $35000 USD, but actually has under $10 000 USD worth of gold in it. Happy shopping!🙂

    I want to first say that I disagree with you to the nth degree. I want to know what Invicta watch you purchased for $500 that's only worth $100? The Invicta pro diver automatic movement with the Seiko NH35A, mineral glass, rotating bezel, and solid 316L steel is under $100. Any comparable watch will be several times more than that. I think that you are severely misinformed. Which allows me to believe your intentions are nefarious. Being less fortunate is not a state of mind or thinking. It is a reality of life. Asking a person who buy a home who cannot afford the down payment or the mortgage is unrealistic. Having a person to purchase a Rolex or invest in one who do not have the money for a Rolex or the investment is not reasonable by any stretch of the imagination.

    Let's see... I bought an Invicta Grand Driver #3049 (Bluesy colour configuration) twelve years ago. I wore it daily for a decade before replacing it with a Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional. In that time, it has never needed servicing, nothing on it has ever broken, the Seiko NH35A movement has been immortal and it still looks and runs as well as the day it arrived. It's not a Rolex homage like the Pro Diver because it has different hands, a Planet Ocean-style scalloped bezel and Invicta markings all over it. Its colour of blue is also more of a violet-blue than the Bluesy's royal-blue. I paid about $150CAD for it and I've NEVER had to open the case for any reason.
    That's not a scam, that's a goddamn BARGAIN!

    ‘This hammer isn’t solid gold and the edge finishing is shoddy. Not enough people *I associate with* believe this hammer has excess value beyond its function. I could never trade this up for hammer-profit.’ No joke; just hit the nail with it, my guy. That’s why it exists.
    I’d argue that most tools aren’t LuXuRy tools with a purpose other than for what they were expressly designed and built. Even Rolex gained notoriety for being a rugged, affordable every-man’s watch. They were basically the Casio of the day. The only reason Rolex has any more “value” now than they did then, is because enough people BELIEVE in the IDEA that they do. It’s a fluke based on good marketing 😂. Not to mention, your stated cure for not investing in ‘more valuable things’ is basically ‘if you’re poor, just will a surplus $10k into your bank account with which to buy assets 😃.’ We both know that without an external network and pre-built financial support structure, that’s just not a thing that happens.
    You can go ahead and complain about the tools ‘for poor people,’ but the rest of us are gonna use those tools to go do real work for a living. We’ll be sure to live a life you’d be proud to look down on. 😆👍

    Silly. Invicta has a gazillion watch offerings, so there is something for everyone. I particularly like the automatic "skeletons" because I enjoy watching the mechanics churn. I paid 60 bucks for one and nearly 200 for another, which I really liked. They are unique. And the $200 one, I've had for years.. Rolex watches look like appliances to me. I wouldn't buy one if I could afford one. I did have a Invicta doppelganger once, but it was so ugly I lost it on purpose. I couldn't do that with a real Rolex unless I was filthy rich. Even if I could afford a fine watch, why would I wear $10,000 on my wrist when I could use that money to buy stocks, bonds, real estate, crypto or any of a multitude of equities that have a better chance of appreciating. Wearing an expensive watch just exposes it to damage and likely depreciation. Oh, but I could keep it in a drawer. Yes I could. But then I couldn't keep time and or even - when talking Rolex - enjoy its plain Amish design. Apologies to the Amish. It doesn't make me stupid to wear something that looks great, performs a useful function and costs almost nothing. When my Invicta breaks - and some of mine do - I'll buy another one. Trading watches won't make me rich. There are better ways to create wealth. And again, apologies to Rolex owners real or imagined. I just don't fancy them so it would be foolish for me to buy (another) watch that I don't enjoy. But everyone has a preference.
