THE "ORIGINAL" PODCAST INTERFACE WASN'T A RODECASTER...AND IT DIED!

I have one and it works for my needs. I am still on Windows 10 for now. At some point, I will upgrade to Windows 11 when I can afford a new computer. I will have to get permission to test it on the Windows 11 computer in the house now to make sure because "doesn't work on Windows 11" seems a bit of a broad brush statement, but I don't want to get burned. It would be a shame if that turned out to be the case. I don't use Audition, I use Tracktion Waveform and it recognizes the hardware just fine in Windows 10. So when I perform my test I will be looking to see if the interface is unrecognized in Windows 11, since that is what you claimed in this video. I will reply to this comment if it works for me.
The bad thing about TH-cam reviews is that the conclusions tend to be "If Product X doesn't have the best specs, then Product X doesn't deserve to exist" and I think that consumers are disserved in that kind of environment. The PodTrak P4 is almost twice the price of the Tascam MiniStudio and that price difference would be well worth it if the Tascam truly doesn't work at all in Win11.
But if all I have to do to make it work is use the free version of a non-subscription-based DAW...couldn't that be worth saving $70?
    EDIT
"Meaning, this thing doesn't really work with Windows 11..." said about 6:30
I have to say that after testing my unit on a Windows 11 machine, I don't get that statement. It worked fine for me. Granted, I tested it with Tracktion Waveform Free and not Adobe Audition. But isn't that a problem with the Audition software? Windows recognized and properly routed audio everywhere I bothered to check. After choosing the ASIO drivers in Waveform (and you do have to choose the proper driver for things to work) I was able to record all sources to their own tracks. Except for the inputs dedicated to Skype and Teams because I don't use them. Maybe I will create an account for those and test them later.
But yeah, I don't get it. Someone watching your video would come away thinking this "ancient artifact' would absolutely not work in Windows 11 and that just wasn't my experience. I didn't even do anything special. I just followed the instructions that came with the driver downloads (and some that pop up on the screen when you start the program and switch modes) and the Tascam MiniStudio US-42B did everything but yell 'Bob's your uncle' while completing every task it advertised it would do (that I tested).
Lower specs aside, the unit does work on Windows 11 if people follow the included instructions.

The P4 is a solid unit. The only issue I have with it like a lot of Zoom interfaces is noisy headphones that do not match what is being recorded. With that said, the functionality it has for the price can't be beat. It is a shame though that this Tascam product was treated like it was. Seems like it would have been a great for the time.

Has Zoom got the P4 up to 24 bit and 48K yet? I sold mine because I can tell the difference when it's recording in 16/44.1.

I've owned and used the single XLR version of this device (US-32) for several years. I had a difficult time finding Tascam software for the pads / audio settings, but eventually I located the Mac version. As it turns out, I never use any of the included sound files nor have I added any new files. One annoying "feature" is the reverb knob. When moving the unit the reverb knob can easily get turned slightly up from "Min", meaning you end up with reverb in your recording if you don't check the knob position before recording. Fine for music, not so fine for spoken word. Overall, it's light weight, reliable, and it works. There are obviously better options now, but when I purchased the unit years ago, it was a reasonably decent choice. It's not a good choice today given the better interfaces available.

      @SeanAdams001 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think the market definitely has choices with better specs and options but they come at a cost. In my testing, the device works fine on Windows 11, and every offering from a brand that performs well in SEO costs at least twice as much. A person could get this device and 2 mics for less than half the cost of the latest options if they shop savvy.

Ahh the US-42b. Really funny story because your video on it came out the moment I returned mine. Yes, I bought a US-42b in 2023, and it didn't even last a full day at my house before it went back into the same box it just came in hours earlier on its return to sender.
I was basically looking for a Podcaster/Streamer interface to replace my UMC22. However I was rather tight on budget for an interface, and I wanted something like a GoXLR mini, especially because of that Censor Button, without spending GoXLR mini money. So seeing this thing for 125€ on amazon made me purchase it. Unfortunately it wasn't as broadly reviewed. But I was appealed by the 2 XLR inputs and the soundboard and so I got it.
And I can only confirm the fact that this thing is a mess. It came with a firmware that's newer than the latest one they offer on the website. It's shown as 3 different Inputs in W11, the basic driver, the advanced driver and the Ministudio-Driver. Yet only the basic driver had 24 Bit 96KHz Audio. While the software's advanced tab didn't really scare me, it was the fact that I just couldn't get this thing to work the way I wanted it. Turning on ASIO would result on all my inputs being gone, and turning it off would result in the soundpad not working for some reason. The basic drivers didn't work at all. After 3 hours of troubleshooting I gave up and banned it from ever entering my house again. I always held TASCAM in a high regard but seeing the way they handle their products in general lately is making me slowly but surely lose my respect for them
I ended up getting myself and M-Audio M-Game solo, which is a streamer Interface and the worst rated on Amazon. Understandable because its software (that the interface is overly reliant on) is REALLY difficult to navigate. However once that's figured out it's amazing for only 99$ MSRP!
I'd love for you to check out the M-Game Solo or Dual and review it too and see if and how you manage to set up the software. It would be especially great because nobody major has reviewed that one before!

I hate to sound like a Zoom fanboy but isn't the L-8 a better comparison to the Tascam as it predated the Rode so could be considered more direct competition and may have overshadowed the Tascam before it in turn was overshadowed by the Rode. At least that's my impression of the timeline.

I may have to do some testing in OBS. Since it worked fine in Windows 11 for me without doing anything but following the included instructions, maybe there is a similar disconnect happening in OBS? What exactly didn't work? I am not a streamer but I know when I fire up OBS to record my screen the Tascam unit shows up and can record my voice with effects and all. Is it something specifically related to streaming?
