A quick comment on the 10000 dollar limit on cash coming into Russia. This is an undeclared limit. If you declare it, you can bring in as much as you wish at no cost other than filling out paperwork. Mind you, if you are leaving the US with that money, over $10,000 you need to fill out declaration paperwork as you are leaving the US. Again, no cost.
Thanks! I’ve actually never brought cash to Russia. There are other ways to do it but I don’t feel comfortable sharing it on TH-cam. I’d be scared for foreigners bringing in large amounts of cash and getting robbed
anything over $10000 you need to declare it. it's a considerable sum such as $50+K you'll need to bring receipts. (proof of where the money comes from and that is legitimately yours.) ... just incase.
Yes, that is good advice. I get a letter from my bank, plus the withdrawal paperwork, then the paperwork from customs leaving the US. Even a transfer country may ask for proof if they see the money. When you declare it coming into Russia, you need to declare all the cash on you, including Russian rubles. Yeah, it can make you nervous walking around with such a wad. Hi mate, really the only thing that has changed is the longer travelling route and the difficulty transferring money. The thing with villages is that people who lived there were actually only working on farms.

The easiest way (and cheapest) to learn Russian language is to get Russian books. After reading 3-4 of them, one would be able to read and write very well. Then one needs the partner in conversation. And there is skype to help. And no need to pay hundreds or thousands $$ oг € or £. That is how i learned foreign language. Reading teaches proper spelling, conversation teaches pronunciation. And grammar comes from both. Just be dedicated and persistent and in no time you succeed
@@kr1221E Of course you need a dictionary. Read each day a new page. but every day start with the first one and add a new page every day.. Then, when you reach the middle of the book you start to understand without a dictionary. That is how I learn foreign language
I agree Russian is a European language a lot of the Cyrillic letters are either Latin but code for a different sound or are Greek. So it shouldn’t be too hard to learn the alphabet. Then you can read it helps that there are a lot of French, Latin, English and German words in Russian. Such as Керн=Kern in German which means core. Эташ= French Étage which is used in German too and means floor. Полиция= German police in English police.
@@SamsRussianAdventures but for that goal it helps immensely if you are able to communicate in Russian. Plus you actually kind of introduced the issue yourself by mentioning the potency to study in Russia getting language proficiency and a student visa
You can bring more than US$10,000 as long as you declare it to Customs. It's desirable to have some proof that the money was obtained legally. I got a letter from my bank stating that was part of the proceeds of the sale of my house. The customs officer will count every single note in every currency, and you'll have to make a declaration as to what you will do with the money. Western debit and credit cards do not work in Russia. Best currencies to bring are USD, Euro, GBP or CNY. The best way for Australians to get to Russia is by Emirates via Dubai to Moscow, or FlyDubai to other Russian cities. Australia is considered an "unfriendly country" so immigration will probably give you an interview before you can get a migration card. If applying for residency you need an apostilled National Police Certificate, which is only valid for 90 days from date of issue.
Clarification: Europe prohibits the export of euros from its territory (I know cases when dollars were taken from those who went to Russia at the European customs - these are European sanctions). Therefore, you can bring any currency to Russia, but not the euro!
@@Andrey_Bodrey75 I took both Euros and US dollars to Russia from Australia, so this only affects Europeans. The exchange rate for Euros is quite bad now, so USD and Yuan are better currencies at the moment.
@@SamsRussianAdventures You should also mention quotas and the language, history and cultural tests. The Temporary and Permanent Residency forms are online on the MVD website. And the 90 days in 180 days rule. Going over that in extreme cases can get you a five year ban on entry into Russia.

Why do u think so? U are a man of work, not a "golden boy", working people now respectful (as it was in USSR times). If u know the language to a decent level, check yourself "Тест для РВП" tests on history basics, law and language. After that u are ready to pass exams (for temporary residency it is enough to have "3" instead of "5" mark). There is a list of most important professions, that have preferencies in obtaing residency or VNGH (Вид на жительство). U can also ask for Asylum in Russian Embassy, get View on living (ВНЖ), apply for citizenship and pass the tests.
The Russians still love westerners (just not the NeoCon / WEF types) and they'll treat you with care and respect on a huge and yet soulful level. I'm a Brit, been here since 2006, and even during the past two years, I've not faced a single issue. When time comes, asking Russian Embassy for Asylum will be the better option. So don't waste your time, learn Russian language, history basics, law basics, check free samples of Test for RVP. So that u would be better situated and ready to pass some tests, if needed.

You’ve been there 20 years already, Sam? What took you to Russia in the first place? Do you have an academic background with the language, or are you self taught? I started going to Russia in 1991 as a photographer to cover American tourists on Lake Baikal. I didn’t have the language then, but started to study it with teach yourself books. I went another 7 times to Russia as a photographer and writer, but I always had an interpreter as my Russian wasn’t good enough. I continued to study the language slowly, and in the last year improved my spoken Russian by joining Tandem, a language exchange site in which you meet people and practice their language as well they practicing their English.
Good sir, excellent content! I watch you frequently and learn a great deal.
You'd have to understand Russian text.
@@kr1221E
Of course you need a dictionary.
The goal is finding a way to live in Russia 🇷🇺
Thanks for the advice, I will share it in the next video about residency and citizenship.

So, new drivers without truckdriving experience don't wont to wait for a year and a half to be allowed to drive it legally. So, they concluded that maybe these rules should be removed, otherwise there will be and already exists the lack of truckdrivers.

Can I learn russian from russian University online overseas ? If so, how ?
Курсы на TH-cam, но смотрите бесплатные, а то развелось много мошенников
I've quickly googled this, you can do it. For example, rosnou (russian new university) does it, costs about 150K, lasts 11 months. There must be other options, i'm sure.
You can also just find yourself a teacher.
Perhaps contact the university?
I think student visa is the best option. You learn russian, you can work. And after you can apply for temporary residence and extend it and then get permanent. Next citizenship.
"Russia Guy/Siberian Freedom" said he is not allowed to work legally when he was on a student visa. But he was'nt at a Degree University Programm but at a Language School related to the University.
I was using a student visa for a few years but I didn’t attend classes!!! It’s a great option.

Maria Zacharova said in an interview that there is an E-visa now. So you don't have to go to the embassy. I live very far from any embassy or consulate so it's a pain to just apply for a visa. Do you know anything about that E-visa?

There are also Visa Centers.
When it comes to St. Petersburg i think it is a bit more easy to visit for a short time. (I am not sure if this is still the case)
For example from Norway we did not even need a visa if we was only visiting St.P. for a weekend.
If i for some reason suddenly get enough money, i will think about moving to Russia. 🙂
Perhaps you have a special rule. I remember cruise ships having that option
At least prior to Putin going completely mad you could get like a daily visa travelling to Saint Petersburg from Stockholm via a ferry. But don’t understand why anyone would like to visit Russia during current situation. It is like visiting Nazi Germany during the 1930’s and 1940’s.

thanks Sam, great and clear information and advice,
My family and i are based in England, but in a couple of years we hope to move to Russia. We were actually married in Russia. My wife is Russian, I'm English, and we still have an apartment there. We visit every year. We have 2 daughters (7 & 12) who have duel citizenships and are fluent Russian. Its just me who can not speak Russian yet.
Looking forward to more of your videos.
👍
Sounds great! You’ll pick Russian when you live here. Reach out to me if you have any questions.
You nailed it 👏 i know i did the same ,i visited the country just as a tourist then i came back again to try to get my temporary residency but unfortunately bureaucracy didn't allow me for now ,..
BIG ADVICE for everyone: LEARN RUSSIAN! Without it your life will be very stressful, people there and the system is not like other global immigration based countries
I agree. You should never relocate to another country without first visiting to determine if it's a good fit for you. If you can't afford a visit, it's wise to wait until you've saved enough to support yourself before making the move.
Many people just move without thinking.
If you want to come for longer time and learn language also... you can enroll into one of the Universities in St Pete or Moscow. Its a student visa, more flexible
It depends on the type of course as to the type of visa
Step one: Go and Visit as a tourist. Step 2. Learn the language if you want to go to live there and you're not quite ready to make the move.
Exactly! Yet so many people tell me they are moving to Russia to build a house and they’ve never been here!

People do not know that when the great migration out of Europe went on some was going to .... Russia, and it did not end well for many of them, the same for some that went to the more "English" places.
Hallo Sam..
I have only started watching your videos coupla days ago, and it is fascinating to see life in Russia, from a foreigner's perpective. I am a black guy from Cape town South Africa, and have always been curious about Russia. I just want to know how open minded russian people are when it comes to race relations. If you can make a video about that, it will be very helpful. I know there are videos on this topic, but i would like you take on it. Many thanks from Vernon.
Lovely day
How do you transfer funds from a western bank account to a Russian account ? Impossible ?

Raiffeisen bank maybe
Some people use raifheisen bank and others use a service called torfx, it’s similar to western union

I think it’s been that way for a number of years. It’s probably nice to live there if a person is wealthy but the American dream is more of a marketing propaganda message. If you ask the average American why they love America then they will answer, because it’s the land of the free and the home of the brave!!!!!

Please next time talk about the cost of renting an apartment and the cost of living in Russia. :)
If not in Moscow, 1-room flat is 15-20 000 rubles per month. In Moscow 3-room flat was about 60 000 rubles per month. It is renting. Cost of living depends on what your needs are.. If it is a car and a cottage and vacations... than u need more mony to have. Pensioners live on 17-20 000 rubles per month. But it was only 10 000 rubles per month 9 years ago. So, now they are a bit wealthier :)

Hi there :)
Mostly, it is just Russian-American or Russian-European couples are moving to Russia. There were a lot of expats living in Moscow, but they had to move back to their countries, because companies where they worked were leaving Russia, and there was an order from the Governments of western countries to their citizens to leave Russia from February 2024.
Those foreigners, who relocated to Russia just run a ytchannels, that's why it looks like there are a lot of them, but not at all. But in the comment section one can see the interest, not due to Russia, but their own Governments policy.
