    I actually didn't know any of the band that appear in this video, and to me their names sounded pretty much made up on the spot whitout any serious effort involved. Which made me believe that this was a 2 minute parody of some genre, until I saw that comment around 1:57 mention Sunny Day Real Estate and I went "oh shit, they are real?!". Then I looked up American Football and the other bands on Google. I must say, this turned out to be an intense 5 minute emotional rollercoaster, thank you.

    Didn't realize that Title Fight brought the shoegaze/ noise pop "wall of sound" to the midwest emo genre, but I noticed a lot of bands make that switch in the 2010's. Turnover is the one that comes to mind, but there are definitely more.
    Midwest emo kind of moved to the coasts in the 2010's especially in the Pennsylvania (Philly) scene.

      @tinflint  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yeah fr this is in no way objective, no matter what i think its always gonna be something that is someone's own experience, that's what i think is really cool about music, i go into shoegaze or something, my understanding of how that genre developed is completely different than someone who was around when it was in its infancy, bands that were super influential in the scene are not super influential to the masses so only people really in the scene got it, so someone who grew up in the 90's is gonna understand midwest emo "better" than me, a lot of people would bring up a lot of modest mouses early works and i don't see that as emo, but at the time im sure it could have been and im sure by their definition of what emo is im sure it is, and that's what's so cool, people consider bands different things, and that's what makes this whole thing fun to talk about.

      It would be more accurate to say HUM changed the whole scene, their impact just took a decade and a half to hit in the form of Title Fight. They took emotional hardcore, crossed it with shoegaze, and Electra 2000 was the result. Title Fight just aped them for one song out of sheer love. So every change that happened to emo was really something HUM did long before Title Fight recreated their style for a song.
      Seriously go listen to Electra 2000, if you haven't before. Like right now. Should be in every 2000's melodic/emotional hardcore fan's collection.

    Fun fact: much like how TTNG used to go by This Town Needs Guns, CSTVT used to go by Castevet. Not really THAT interesting, but it helps with pronouncing the name.

    lowkey i like shoe gaze. It does kinda bum me out that every band needs to have a shoe gaze song though. Never Before Seen, Never again found by Arms Length is an absolute banger of an album, but they have a song on there called "Family and Friends" and don't get me wrong I love that fuckin song, but it just feels the most off when I listen to that album in full. I guess I never chalked it up to Title Fight though. To me it was Turnovers fault but I still love them too.
    Edit: i made this before i got to the end. Thank you for mentioning Oso Oso that dude is insanely talented and I'm genuinely thankful to the universe for putting him on the spotify weekly recommended 5 years ago.

    • @tinflint
      @tinflint  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Turnover is def responsible for it in some aspect though, but title fight did it first and also affected the hardcore scene so I have it moreso to title

      @tinflint  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i just really think throwing weezer in anything is funny, and if i really wanted to trigger gatekeepers i will defend pinkerton as a midwest emo album, cause its not, but its close enough to make a lot of good points to make it seem like a midwest emo album

    • @jadedandbitter
      @jadedandbitter 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What gatekeepers would object to the inclusion of Pinkerton under the general umbrella (not midwest) of emo though? I mean the Blue Album is just plain old Alt rock but Pinkerton is thematically about as emo as you can get. Not to mention relentlessly cited as a major influence by many more conventional emo bands.
      That was literally how I had the album pitched to me originally- "Weezer makes an emo album", which compelled me to check it out and Ive never regretted that decision.
