I really like the "hard wire as a template" idea... I'm "upgrading" the original all drum brakes to an all disc brakes in my Brazilian made 1980 Toyota FJ Cruiser, which originally didn't even have a parking brake... and nearly just like you, I'll use this as a "temporary parking brake" while I'm closing my gate and so on...
    Cheers from the jungle! ;)

I’m glad I seen this video!! I thought about doing this on my dump truck because the parking brake is horrible no matter how hard you adjust it. I’ve replaced all the components and it’s unreliable. I’m going to try this route!!!👍

The stiff wire idea is a good one. Easier than bending brakeline under your vehicle. Cheers.

I'm absolutely not going to do this to my track car that doesn't have a parking brake.
Nice job with the wire template - that probably wouldn't have occurred to me. Thanks for posting.

I have been wanting to do this for boat ramps. I use my ebrake but would love to have my front brakes locked up too!. I prefer your mechanical brake lock set up more than the electronic ones because I would be afraid of them failing while I'm driving! Also the coat hanger templete,☝ ☝ I will use this.

Any updates on the line lock lasting on small inclines??

Lasts as long as the lines will hold pressure.. or the wheel cylinders.. I've seen a truck roll back out of a driveway due to a line failing. Well didn't see it happen, just found my truck leaning on an oak tree with a busted rubber hose..

100%. While it’s true the e-brake is the mechanical standby when the engine fails or the brake lines are cut, the line lock is awesome to save wear and tear on the transmission from a worn parking pawl

Thinking bout doing this as I upgraded bigger rear rotors and the OEM e brake shoes are smaller want to connect it to the calipers

Very cool! Been looking to do the exact same on a future project and wanted to see if anyone had done similar.
I had two ideas. One was to use a pass through master cylinder like for a hydro E-brake and have the factory E-brake handle actuate it. The other was to use a line lock or similar, like this device, which I also discovered just before finding your video.
Now that it's two years later, did it work well long term? I would still rely on park and possibly chocks for very long term inclined parking as well!

I love the idea, that is why I am here...I want to be able to lock my front wheels down at the boat ramp..Park and Parking brake both work as they should...but nightmares of my truck drifting out to sea made me really want to do this.

Thanks for this, I was really curious on how this manual line lock was operated. Know I know.

Whats the size/diameter of the roll of brake line that you use?

Why not try installing an accumulator from an abs system for extended pressure time. Hey, it could hold for a month even a year provided there are no leaks.

As long as you also put it in park, I don’t see how this could be anything but safer to use in addition. I wouldn’t tempt fate leaving it in neutral and relying on this alone, but in conjunction with The Parking prawl I’d say it’s a safe method.

How do you get the line lock to stay in when you press it in? Bought the same one and when I press the brake and push it in it does not stay in

Be sure the flow is going the proper direct. Should have a arrow on the side and the arrow should point "towards" the brake. So master cylinder -> wheels.

+Velocity Labs I should install one on the front brakes for burnout purposes only ;)

Got me a throttle cable from Sears put a crimp on it and burnt the plastic off so it wound fit in the tube still on the car as it burned down and sold the bus 2 day down time or more it was a e situation also used the sink pump to get home from dallas

+jhon doe was this for a parking brake? You can buy replacement cables I’m sure. Sorry to hear about the loss of your bus.

I've had a unit sitting ready to instal in my old landcruiser for ages but never got around to it.
Here is aus they are specifically not allowed, as is anything that interferes with OEM brake functionality.
Even using independent lines its not allowed to replace a mechanical emergency brake system.

+Luke Drennan I think a cable parking brake is the best bet for a parking brake but most of my stuff was rotten or missing entirely. I’ll ultimately retrofit the cable stuff into it but this is a great interim solution - beats relying on the auto trans parking pawl!!!

Why would it not work? It is designed to lock brakes for racers! Granted usually the front ones!
