Thanks for the review of all the different control options, I got my Skydio 2 last week and I just went ahead and got both the controller and beacon. I did this because I thought my chances of getting them now would be easier and more likely than if I tried to order just one or the other in a few weeks or months. Your video is definitely going to help a lot of people make a better choice if they are not sure what to do. Take care buddy
As ever, very clear instruction and advice. Plus, you showed where the boost button is, which no one else has, that I can see. I got beacon and controller to cover all bases. All good so far.
After this video I decided to get the controller and the beacon so I have all three for any situation that arises. Thanks for the great instructional videos and reviews! You always make everything easier to understand and less stressful which ends up making my flying experience more enjoyable 👍
I just got mine. Haven't flown it yet. I have all 3 options. And I think I will use all 3. The phone option looks good for a quickie flight close by. The beacon will be used for my off-roading (dual sport bike and UTV) And the controller to me is a must have for general videography. Can't go to MOAB without videoing the surroundings...This was very informative!! Great video!!
Great video. Yours is the best succinct video comparison of all 3 methods to fly the Skydio 2. From what I’ve seen online, the controller paired with Skydio’s incredible obstacle avoidance allows some beautiful cinematic shots people wouldn’t dare attempt without the reassurance of that obstacle avoidance!
What's not to like? The use of all the options phone, controller, beacon covers just about every possible shot/transition/ situation you could find yourself in. Driving along a barren highway use the beacon to track yourself/vehicle, walking along the edge of a magnificent cliff or steep shoreline do you autorotation shots and composition with the phone....want to fly in close & climb up that distant waterfall?.. film with the controller..ect..I think it's bloody great!! Probably could be a bit more competitive price wise, but this things obstacle detection alone is worth the price of admission.
I watched the video in full, before commenting, the skydio with remote is definitely my choice, my delivery is March/April,( confirmed) as it's been ordered through a work colleague who lives the USA.. I still think Mavic pro 2, is more complete. But we are all different.
Could you please do a reveiw on the Skydio 2+ please and thank you, it look like there really have done some great upgrades. Thank you for everything you do Caption Drone. you have taught me more in the last year in a half. and your over all passion for RC hobby is the greatest, Thank you 😎🤠
The SKYDIO 2+ is a very minor upgrade to the SKYDIO 2. Both have the same features in flight. Keep in mind the SKYDIO 2 was never designed to be a camera filming drone like a DJI drone. It is an ACTION FOLLOW ME drone so it was never designed to have a great flight range. The SKYDIO 2+ still has a terrible flight range hence the reason those owners with the SKYDIO 2 have not bothered to upgrade.
Personally, I think it's pretty cool what it can do. It seems to be on point all time. I don't think I will be purchasing one soon. I do like what it has to offer. The beacon reminds me a lot of the wizard for theTyhoon and Q500. I have one for my Typhoon H. It is an awesome addition. Very fun to experiment with. Thanks for review. Now I know what it can really do
The new waypoints (keyframes) might make the controller worth having to fly a bit easier than from the phone, but otherwise I think it adds very little for a pretty hefty cost.
Those are awesome drones little high priced. I ordered the Zino 2. waiting for it to come in. Not in a big hurry . I knew when I ordered it that it would take time for it to come in.
The ZINO 2 was supposed to arrive on February 10th but it seems all of China is silent with the Coronavirus and workers are not at the office so shipping is on hold.
Mine is on the way, I contacted Skydio about gimbal control and possible POI along with waypoints and I think somewhere down the road it might just happen.
Oracle Miata Yes, that was indicated in the video (watch when I am close to the structure with the Beacon). But why on earth would anyone do that. It defeats the purpose of using the beacon in one hand in an active role. You’d be better off just using the phone.
I know this is a old video. But I have a skidio2 and don't fly it much because I've lost it several times w the beacon and riding my motorcycle. I'm planning on getting the controller as the drone doesn't seem to like to connect to my android phone. Question when using the controller and cell phone, can you select something or someone else to track? Or I'd it limited to the controller/phone location like the beacon?
If you set the drone off just using your phone then put it say in a clear pocket in a tank bag on your bike, what would be the max speed it would follow at? Great review as usual, thanks.
Nice video! Thank you. I still have another application for the Beacon: put the Beacon in a (not too fast) RC-plane of one of your RC-colleages and track the plane. I'll try to do so if i finally get my preordered Skydio in Europe.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Tanks for the answer. What means general direction? Points the camera just to x-y-GPS coordinates, without using the altitude of the Beacon? Yes, I saw some posts were the tracked subject is often very low in the frame.

The sensors never turn off, which is the biggest problem with the drone. For newbies it is perfect but as soon as you learn to fly a drone, it becomes a hinderance.
harder than you make it look lol..already getting nervous with this drone..used to DJI. A question..before you go into manual mode you said "press the up button" @4:41 where is this can you be more specific..is it the height button you are referring to ?

I have the Skydio 2, the beacon and the controller. My question: Can I give the beacon to a subject I want to track and use the controller with my app to manoeuvre the drone (set hight and distance from subject along with easy access to the "stop" button on the controller)? Or is it either the beacon OR the remote that I can use but not both at the same time?

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Is that all you can do ? Up and down? So for instance if a make a track shot with 2 points and in the middle of the track I want to keep looking at a subject can this be done ? Like a POI with DJI

No. You need the Parrot ANAFI for such filming. Also I would not fly the SKYDIO2 under a bridge because it controls the height itself and if it wants to go low it will crash in the water since it only uses visual sensors and not ultrasonic sensors on the bottom.

Ok love your videos. I am sorta a couch potato but with a boat lol. I'm curious if you didn't have any of your other drones would you get the skydio2 for personal use?

Hi Captain Drone... I wonder if you know a drone with less 200 gram weight, with GPS and 1080pixel at least, HD or better and if possible 3 axis stabilisation gimbal - Japan has 200 gram limitation Thank you for your help...
Well, now i love this drone because of the controller, more gentle to be controlled, more fun and for sure more angle to be captured, are the sensors still active when using controller? I'd seen it crash while using controller.
So I know it say's don't ask you how you know this, but how did you find out that you needed to wear gloves when hand catching :) I think I know the answer but I'm still curious!
Nice explanation of the usage for the three control devices. I am in batch 3 2Q2020 so still have a wait. Your videos help me to better understand the Skydio 2 drone as compared to DJI drones I fly. I am on the fence if to keep my order or not because not sure yet what advantage Skydio would give me over a Mavic 2 Pro which has very smooth cinematic video capabilities. Most of the videos I see coming from Skydio 2 have quick jerky movements and almost constant movement of subject matter within the frame.
Addy Overbeeke Yes, it is kinda like a dog that follows you on a walk or adventure and every now and then sees a squirrel. If you fly high in the air with the controller you can get smooth cinematic video, but if you fly lower and close to objects, the drone will slow down and speed up and move from side to side which can ruin your cinematic shot.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks Captain. I have lots of Squirrels where I live in the thick forest ...LOL But I totally get what you mean. Still not sure how I would use the Skydio 2 but for now will keep the order.
I currently have a Mavic 2 Pro and for the most part really love it. But Active Track is spotty for what I need it for which is off road motorcycling and MTB. The Skydio2 seems like a better option but without the folding arms I worry about it's backpack ability. Is it hard to transport without a giant backpack? Thanks!
michael hall You may be one of the few people in the planet who has not seen the Skydio case. It is slightly larger than the drone and very thin: th-cam.com/video/D5vORTlJz5I/w-d-xo.html
Love your videos. You said at one point that it would have trouble following you if there were more people around you. Does that mean you can have it follow someone other than the user? Say for example a ball player?
John Cappi Exactly. The drone will place a plus sign on every person it sees. You just tap on the person on the screen and the drone will follow in any method you wish. Great for filming your kids at a park or event. The only caution is to select the 8 foot height follow which will force the drone to follow at a height above 8 feet so that it does not crash into other people.

If dji do a mavic air say with a beacon like feature will be the most perfect drone there could be currently!!!
Hi Captain Drone... I wonder if you know a drone with less 200 gram weight, with GPS and 1080pixel at least, HD or better and if possible 3 axis stabilisation gimbal - Japan has 200 gram limitation Thank you for your help...
There would be nothing good at that weight limit other than small drones like the TELLO or similar items that would be closer to toys.
Damn dude that's a really nice jungle gym. Wish we had ones as good as that around here.
Nice video...how about a range test for skydio2 and RTH accuracy...
Both of those are not pretty. Range beyond 1000 meters is hit and miss, and landing return to home accuracy is non-existent.
That is pretty cool. If I had an active youtube channel I would get one
Well, now i love this drone because of the controller, more gentle to be controlled, more fun and for sure more angle to be captured, are the sensors still active when using controller? I'd seen it crash while using controller.
Correct. The sensors never turn off, even when using the controller.
So I know it say's don't ask you how you know this, but how did you find out that you needed to wear gloves when hand catching :) I think I know the answer but I'm still curious!
Phil W The front props have hit the knuckles on my hand many times. I carry a stack of bandaids with me.
This is a drone ideally for active sport travellers.
I wait testing EggX in waterproof case
How about Skydio with Turnigy x9 transmitter..can it go ?
fyzal lyfe Only in Hollywood :-)
Hi! Thanks for the video. I can’t pair my skydio2+ with the controller, any tips for pairing? Thanks
Thanks!
It comes with a carry case
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Not to be a pain in the butt (ok maybe a little) can you tell how big the case is?
michael hall You may be one of the few people in the planet who has not seen the Skydio case. It is slightly larger than the drone and very thin: th-cam.com/video/D5vORTlJz5I/w-d-xo.html
Have you heard of anyone having the app blocked trying to fly with the phone OUTSIDE of North America? (no wifi connectivity between phone and drone)
Thanks so best to fly with a combo control of beacon and phone skydio app?
Steve could you help me find a site that sell autel evo-accessories more for holding a tablet there has to be a few out there lot better then the one that is $60+
There is a guy on this channel that makes 3D printed extensions for controllers. Watch my DRONE TALK EPISODE #5, I mention him at the start.
thank you very much Steve i will look and see now you and DEMUNSEED - Jim Bowers are the best on here but i do not see jim anymore you both are very honest on your reviews so keep up the good job Steve give you a 10 star
