@@troy2478 it's confusing though saying a vehicle will lose half of its value in 4 years, because every person pays a different price on a new vehicle, and on a used one. For example, I bought my 2018 GMC for 41,150 with an msrp of 53k dollars, so it's already 20% off the msrp, so in 4 years is it going to lose another 50% or just another 30%? And when you go to sell it, if you sold it for 10% above average price, then did you really only lose 20% if you originally bought it for 20% off? and it's not really losing money, you're paying for the miles and wear and tear on the vehicle and the utility you got out of it. Because sure a used vehicle is cheaper, but it's also closer to death and will need replaced sooner. So it's a give and take, if you get a good deal whether used or new you'll turn out good.

When a vehicle exceeds a normal house payment and depreciates 20K a year, it qualifys as the worst rodding of your life. The sales tax is more than I put down on my first house which was back in the Carter insanity years. Now, it is vehicle prices. I think we will see some dealer networks start to fold in a few years. You are not showing all the truth. You casually say $20 a month between payment amounts shouldn’t make an impact on a decision to purchase. I say it does. $20/month up front looks trivial and might get some poor sucker to buy but in your example, every $20 increase cost the buyer $1200 more on a 60 month loan in the long run. See I would do 84 months if I could get a really low interest rate ONLY because I know I would be paying it off as early as possible by sending in extra towards the principal. But like he said in the video that's not likely to be the case. I have done this twice(not 84 months but send in extra) and paid off both vehicles in about 3.5 years if not sooner. Then again I never buy my cars with all the bells and whistles that jack up the price and I tend to keep my cars for as long as possible.

@@johnduke136 I own them for the return value and the miles they can clock. Diesels hold value better then any gas engine truck after 10 years. 1 truck tows a 5th wheel for work purposes to which is why its switched out. The other is for when the other truck is gone away from the ranch for the other half of the year. Not that we tow that often as it is or that much but i could easily put both into hotshot if desired. The ranch truck is road legal. I keep it as its paid for and for the offroading/mud delt with. Also used by family when visiting or when a truck is required by someone. For a 1500, it sure tows a goosneck quite well i will say. I can honestly say after 5 years of ownership the 2018 will still retail for the high 50k mark where the 2017 will only fetch maybe 35k with the 250,000 or more miles .
Just because it doesnt justify in your head doesnt mean everyone needs to contort to youre reality. I know someone that said that crap to my face too but called me much more than an idiot for owning so many large trucks. The catch is, they are backup plans. I looked at their sister dealership 15 miles away and they had a used 2014 new model year with 22k crew cab 5.3 2wd for $30k. saved myself $15k. Buying a brand new vehicle is absolutely the worst idea you can possibly have. Buying slightly used will always save money. these vehicles literally depreciate the minute you drive them off the lot. I just bought a new 2020 v6 Camaro and I sold my 2009 v6 Mustang with 109k miles on it.
I got two cash offer quotes from Kelly blue book and I will never try to sell a car to them again.
    First offer was $2900.
    Second offer was $2500.
Then I sold it to Carmax for $4500.
I made a down payment of 15k and did a 6 year loan with an interest rate just a little over 2%.
I went ahead and got the extended Warranty that last the duration of my loan and still have a payment of about $275 a month. 😀
So far I love my new Camaro. 😀

Im no expert Im no rich dude. But here’s how I went about getting my used car financed.
Not everyone can afford to just save up and pay cash for cars. If you can, more power to you.
Don’t finance with the dealer. Go to a credit union, bank with them if possible. My interest rate was 2.2%
    No prepayment penalties
I got a car about 3 K under what I was approved for.
I made sure I was able to afford double the minimum payment. Never pay minimum payments. If you can’t pay double the monthly , re think your options.
Im no expert. What do I know. But this was the smartest decision I made for myself. Payed off the car a year before the term was over.

I was wondering if you would talk about the 4 square and how terrible it is

    • @johnlyn1
      @johnlyn1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

There is nothing terrible about the 4 square. He's talking smack to sell you on the method his dealership uses which is actually designed to make you focus on payment. Notice how his sheet gives you 9 different payment choices, based on 60 months, 66 months and 72 months, then a payment based on those months with $0 down, $1,000 down, and $2,000 down? That is designed to make you more focused on the payments. No different than a 4 square. The only thing the 4 square doesn't show is what the tax, title, license & doc fee is, but that is included in the payment shown on the 4 square. The total breakdown that shows everything like his sheet does is shown on the reverse side of the 4 square sheet which is filled in once the customer is good with the purchase price, minus rebates (if any), the trade allowance (if there is a trade) and the payment. Its not designed to confuse anyone with anything. Having been in the car business myself for 16 years I have used both methods and I can tell you the method he uses showing you the 9 different payment options is by far the easiest way to confuse a customer and keep them focused on payments. That is designed to deflect their attention away from the selling price and the trade-in value. Like he did say which he is correct about, is that most buyers are mostly concerned with payment. If they are good with the payment they buy. If not, they don't buy. As for trade-in value, a good way to see if the dealer is really giving you the amount they are showing you for your trade and not playing games by showing you an over allowance is to tell the dealer you don't want to buy the car, but you will sell them your trade out right for the amount they are showing you for your trade. If the dealer is willing to buy your trade out right for that same price they showed you, then you'll know that is the actual cash value they are really paying you for your trade. If they balk by making any excuses that they won't buy your trade out right for that price then you know they were playing games by over allowing for your trade. Remember what he said here in the video about trade-ins? Prices are high at the auctions which is why they offer that $2,000 extra for trade-ins on top of the actual cash value. If that is true then the dealer would be more than willing to buy your trade-in out right for that price, unless they are over allowing for the trade. What is over allowing for a trade? That is where a dealer shows you more for your trade than what they are really putting into it. For example, if the actual cash value for your trade is $3,000 and the dealer shows you $4,000. How are they able to show you $4,000 if they are really only giving you $3,000? They are taking the extra $1,000 from the mark up they have in the vehicle you are buying. For example, if you are buying a $54,000 vehicle, there may be $4,500 in mark up between dealer invoice and MSRP. The dealer may show you a selling price of $52,000 after discounting the MSRP price, where the dealer still has $2,500 in mark up left. So they will take another $1,000 from that $2,500 left in mark up and add that to your trade value by showing you $4,000 for your trade instead of the actual $3,000 they are really paying you for it. The second biggest thing people get hung up on besides payment is the amount they are getting for their trade. This is why a lot of dealers show over allowances for trade-ins, which just basically means instead of showing you the real price they can sell you the vehicle out right for, they are holding back part of their mark-up so they can show you more for the trade. Most people get more hung up on their trade than they do on the selling price. Payment and trade value are the two biggest issues that most buyers get hung up on. Then down payment, then price. The 4 square actually has LESS confusion, not more, because its very basic and simple for everyone to understand. The complete breakdown is always given regardless of which method is used. Everyone has to pay the tax, title, lic & doc fee. The payment always includes that. The 4 square shows the all the important factors that are all subject to negotiation. MSRP and the Purchase Price which is the top left square. Down payment if any which is the bottom left square. Trade-in value which is the top right square, and payment which is the bottom right square. All for are all of the things subject to negotiation. The tax, title, lic & doc fee is not subject to negotiation. The tax will be based on the Purchase price minus trade-in value if any, then any rebates will be deducted from that total. The tax is calculated before any rebates are substracted. If you are trading a vehicle that trade value gets deducted first from the selling price before tax is calculated, which means you are saving sales tax based on your trade amount and that is a factor to consider when trading or selling out right. If your trade is worth a lot of money then 6% sales tax you save on that amount by trading in the vehicle may make it not worth the hassle of selling it yourself once you account for the sales tax amount. For example, if you your trade value was $25,000 and sales tax is 6% for your state, that would be $1,500 in sale tax you save by trading it in on the new vehicle. That means if you were to sell it out right yourself then you will need to get at least $26,500 for your vehicle just to break even on what you would get from the dealer by trading it in. You have decide if its worth the hassle to sell it yourself to try and get an extra $1,000 or $2,000 out of it once you account for the sales tax savings if you traded it in.
