YES DUDE! i love when this motor gets more attention. ive been saying it for years...this motor AND the 2ARFE is the modern day equal to all the old toyota 4 cylinders we know and love. no direct injection/ high compression bullshit; just an efficient, strong, reliable motor that will keep you happy NA or turbo. my dream build is to someday rwd swap a 2011-2013 scion tc and turbo the motor again. i made almost 350whp on my tc2 with only 13lbs.
Agreed. I get a little sad when people insist on keeping to old (outdated/expensive) platforms like the 4AGE or SR20 without much reason. Yes they were good, but today there's better out there
@@trebor1973j That's when they screwed with the 2AZFE piston heads and gave them smaller holes for the oil control rings which ended up clogging them or not giving enough flow.
Hi Bozzy. That young man has a very impressive skill set to only be 16 years old.👍 I want to be like him when I grow up.😊 J/K. He obviously puts in a lot of practice to be that awesome. If you're serious about that, consider the 2ar-fe instead. Slightly larger displacement, more reliable; no rebuild necessary. Stock 2az - Fe enginea have oil burning issues. Could probably be found used for roughly the same price point
@@CatylisticRevo62 don't the 2az's have a better cylinderhead design though, bigger ports and room for bigger valves in the combustion chamber, Plus a decent market for camshafts?
@@CatylisticRevo62 Late Stock 2AZ-FE engines have oil burning issues caused by the piston heads, 02 to 06 didn't have that issue at all. As for the reliability they're the same if you don't get the one's with the shitty piston heads, they're also extremely common and cheaper so it's quite easy to get your hands on one.
@@CatylisticRevo62 well you would be rebuilding the engine entirely if you plan to put any good amount of boost in that engine anyway.... conrods are too weak

I have this same engine, but NA instead of turboed. Wonder what sorts of other parts were added to bring the horsepower up to 650 from 157 that the stock version makes.
Honestly you wont get far without boost, these engines make that much power because they are so freaking durable and can handle lots of boost (not as much as a 2jz tho), the best thing to do would be increasing airflow as much as possible, getting better injectors, and replacing engine parts that are expected to brake, you would also need to tune the engine from what Toyota runs it.
Hey! Should you tell me what’s done to the motor? Currently boosting a 06 Toyota Camry with the same motor(it’s already boosted) wanted to know what injectors you went with ecu etc if you don’t mind me asking
I want to see an AE86 with a Astron Martini 4.0 V8 in it. 86mm by 86mm⁸ would be a 9,500+rpm screamer. With boost. I don't know that's the stroke and bore but that is what I would want. Or 85mm bore by 87mm⁸ stroke.
02-06 are fucking tanks, later gen have smaller holes for the oil control rings which cause bad flow and clogs, it starts with burning oil and just gets worse from there, as long as you fix your piston heads in the later gen 2AZ-FE engines, you're fine.
I'm curious about that too. I have a Solara with that engine and I like it. I also have a Celica im working on. wondering if the W58 transmission would match the 2az @@AlbertoGonzalez..
