Good solution hoisting that reflector. I think we call that knot a "slip knot" in norway, very practical! Keep on with Your videos mate, I learn a lot. Sometimes the wind disturb Your audio, video quality is very good! :).

Thanks for your kind words. Audio is definitely something I need to get better at. Happy sailing. :)

    Sorry.
I don't see why do you manage to prevent the reflector to slide down the back stay once you release the line

You sailed to greece all the way from australia? If so - cool! Enjoy your vacation.

No, cheated. Joined the boat in Kyrthia for a bit of island hopping. Longest voyage has been about 12 hours overnight. Should do a video on how to tell in you are on a collision course with a ship. Very busy shipping lanes here!

I like this set up. What are you using to lash the reflector to the backstay?

+Peter Feldman Hey Peter, that's a good question. From memory it was attached with two thick UV resistant cable ties.

      @@DangarMarine Cable tie's fix everything

The bad news is that if that type of reflector is not vertical its performance reduces dramatically. So even one installed vertically will lose performance when the boat is heeled.

Hi Stu, Nicely done. What technology do these reflectors use, are they totally passive or do they require a battery of sorts? I have some experience with radar and ATC (air traffic control) pertaining to hot air balloons, which due to their construction are unable to show up naturally on radar and must use a powered transponder to generate something that will allow ATC (and other craft with radar systems) to "see" the balloon. Hope it was a great holiday (over a year ago). Minus 6 with a wind chill feeling like -17C up here in Ontario, Canada tonight. Bring on the January deep-freeze, it helps keep the mosquitoes down to a dull roar. Almanac had promised a very hard winter with a lot of snow this year, but so far around here it's been laughable. Sold my last snowmobile years ago due to "declining" winters and insufficient snow levels (and getting married). Yet a few hrs drive North of where I live, they'll have deep snow and frozen waters for a month and a half after we get Spring down here, lol. Cheers.

Hey Stan, these reflectors are totally passive. Interesting to hear about the balloons, makes sense they don't show up on radar. Hope the winter isn't too bitter. I would have thought the mosquitoes would have gone completely at those temperatures. Ours get very quiet once it goes to about 15 celsius.

Charter or Friends Boat? I am originally from South Africa. Noticed you fly RSA flag. Thanks for the tip the other day on the stuck pull cord. Much appreciated.

I think you’ll find these reflectors are as useful as a chocolate fire guard?
