    I don’t think non piano players can appreciate how difficult it is to play more than 2 hands, or voices on the piano. Animenz plays maybe 4 or 5 in this arrangement. It might not seem like it, but this arrangement is actually as difficult as it is amazing.

    This piano cover is probably the most fun arrangement I have done this year so far! It took me a long time to coordinate all the different layers of music on the piano but it was really worth it! I literally just play this song for the epic chorus part alone in 3:42.

    "もう二度と晴れなくたっていい! 青空よりも、俺は陽菜がいい! 天気なんて、狂ったままでいいんだ!!"
    but i'm ngl this is harder than it looks ( for me like you were playing a duo in one piano )

  • @purewaterruler
    @purewaterruler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +315

    I'm not going to lie, I didn't think fitting all those voices into the right hand was even possible for that ostinato.
    This piece was made for you to arrange with that 3 hand technique, it's so pretty! I was absolutely floored when I was in the cinema for this show as well during this scene; it looked incredible, the ostinato coming in at the beginning somehow being a slightly unconventional way of increasing the tension for the movie.
    And that's something you were able to capture on the piano well: this song is unconventional in structure and in structure, and is almost something you expect as a celebratory chant from a choir or something, with all the layering instrumentals.
    You were able to take that general vibe and transform it into the piano: it sounds perfectly layered, it sounds inspiring and hopeful in the same way the original song did, and it sounds like you put a lot of thought into this song. Well done with the climactic piece of Weathering with You, a task not so easy to do well.

    • @Animenzzz
      @Animenzzz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +75

      Thank you for your uplifting comment! I experimented a lot of different layer techniques this time and I simply picked the one which achieves the best the ebb and flow of the music. The initial idea was to play the ostinato in the 2nd verse as well, but after practicing for a while the ostinato actually becomes a bit annoying, so I deliberately put minimum ornaments for the second verse as a "breather" in the music.
      Hope you will like my future piano arrangements as well!

    Something about this song never fails to give me full body chills the moment the final climatic chorus hits in full grandiose glory. Needless to say, this cover brought out the same goosebumps as listening to the original.
    To be honest, I was very curious to hear what unique interpretation you would bring to a song that has already been plenty covered in the community. I've already heard so many creative interpretations out there that have set the bar high. But, as always, my expectations were exceeded with the force of a thousand suns piercing through the thick rain clouds. The original is layered in a way that just begs for multiple-hand techniques, and I loved that you milked every bit of it to the end.
    Shining moments for me:
    - 0:09: the entrances of the secondary voices sparkle ever so brilliantly
    - 0:57: the smoothness and clarity of the continued high register secondary voices
    - 1:26: the light touch of the high voices in the pre-mini-chorus. Also, the third hand is flawless.
    - 2:05: the ringing "bell tones" in the high register
    - 2:18: the sudden calmness in the entrance to the second chorus to contrast the energy of the preceding section
    - 3:17: the power and balance of the dual voices in the right hand
    - 3:42: *sasuga climatic chills*. No musical analysis needed here.
    - 4:14: powerful outro line
    - 4:32: the sustained bass undertone combined with the soft high register concluding phrase

    As an aside, just like "I'll Be Alright" and "Sparkle" from the Kimi no Na wa OST (the extended movie ver, not the radio ver), my favorite song structure is the one there the whole song is one giant build up to a grand climax, and this song is perhaps one of the most well executed of this structure in my opinion.
    Lastly, the lamp colors were perfectly chosen. The blues and faint pinks match the movie / movie poster aesthetic perfectly!
    I'm glad you were able to finally apply your Animenz touch to this piece. May the piano god continue to bless us with wondrous music!

    • @Animenzzz
      @Animenzzz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +71

      I really laughed out loud at the “expectations exceeded at the force of thousand suns” part in your comment, hahaha
      I really think multi layer arrangements are where I am truly excelling at. And the more polyphony/instrumental layer an original song has, the more I can experiment three hand patterns on the piano.
      Thank you for watching as always!

    Don't know if you will see this, but I've always look forward to see how you will implement the multiple hands technique in each of your arrangements, and it is so apparent in this one, I love it. Idk how your managed to coordinate 3 separate parts at 0:28 while playing a completely different left hand bass/melody, but that was extremely well done. And as you said that the whole song was just a slow buildup towards the 3:40 climax, it was so well paced, mimicking the slow rainy clouds giving way to the sun. I can actually hear the "hand clapping" you mentioned at 3:42, and even if that part is not as hard as 0:28, it was still beautiful, and I appreciate how you tried to make it sounds as close to original as possible. This has definitely become my favorite arrangement of this song, thank you, I'll come listen again for sure.

    After listening to this, describing Animenz as an artist, for me, became merely a myopic view of what it holistically is. Animenz is an environment... one that people visit and revisit to heal whilst become re-inspired. How should I say this... if we're all pokemons, then Animenz is the software of the medical paraphernalia used within the pokemon centre, the one just before challenging the elite four. I wish fervently for your success in making anime music into classic music.
    I probably shouldn't reiterate what has been said a couple times already, but seriously... 3:42 - 3:55 is just breathtaking. Plus, 3:55 - 4:14 sends me to the "feels" every time.
    Initially, since I hadn't heard of this song before, I was like "wow, I don't recognize this, and the beginning right hand pattern sounds fancy... and I'm reminded of the Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari arrangement in that a right hand passage is introduced first before the left hand melody is unveiled." Before long, my thoughts on it had become "yup... another life essential." I honestly CAN'T WAIT to watch the movie now and learn this piece!

    Wow that ending did justice to the impact it was supposed to carry and overall I am just amazed that you are able to make these videos weekly. It saddened me to hear people say you weren’t putting much effort into your videos anymore because I am still shocked at the emotion you are able to put into the notes and I think I speak for the overwhelming majority when I say your arrangements are as good as ever if not better. Just because the difficulty in the arrangement isn’t there doesn’t make it any worse of an arrangement and if anything it just goes to show how much you have grown over the years as the music is able to say so much more with less. In all, I am once again amazed by this week’s arrangement and I am looking forward to next week!

    • @barefootrenegade3949
      @barefootrenegade3949 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you hit the nail on the head. And I'm part of that overwhelming majority you mentioned.
      Animenz has an incredible ability to compose and structure a piece of music. I don't see "difficult" vs "easy" arrangements. I see arrangements that are "balanced." There is enough detail and complexity to make the music feel complete, while still being simple enough to not distract.
      Not to much, not to little. Just right.
      Similar to what you said, what impresses me the most is how Animenz doesn't just make an arrangement sound amazing, but *feel* like it should. Emotion is everything.

    _cracks knuckles_ time for my personal list of highlights
    0:00 - 4:46
    It was really tempting to leave it at that because how in the world can you come up with so much for a song that has been covered and covered, and with ONLY TWO HANDS? There's so much going on at any given time I can barely wrap my head around it
    0:00 - 0:28 the fact that you play the entirety of that with one hand. it just looks so cool when the second voice appears and I can't SEE IT
    0:28 it feels like so much at once I don't understand how
    0:59 the fact that you play that uppermost voice it's just. so much I swear this is the hardest list of highlights I've ever wanted to do because my brain shuts down when I try to make sense of and imagine playing all those voices at once
    1:26 using the right hand to connect the melody so seamlessly
    1:38 you kept the rhythm in!! I feel like that's such a rare thing where you manage *both* the voices and that beat/texture, I saw most covers go either or, while you just went "why not both"
    2:05 oh those jumps look terrifyingly risky to play but they sound incredible
    3:05 wait. go back, slow down, I had to look at that part 3 times to see what happened, the way you finished that middle voice between those octave jumps is ridiculous. I love it
    3:12 this buildup before the drop is SO good
    3:17 those two voices in the right hand hurt my brain
    3:36 the crescendo, the POWER in that buildup
    3:42 leading up to this MASSIVE satisfying octave part, what a climax
    4:13 I love EVERYTHING about this part, those octaves are lightning I'm so, so impressed
    4:30 I love that it ends on the right hand from the beginning it ties it up so nicely
    This one was insane, giving new meaning to the 3 hand technique out here!

    • @Animenzzz
      @Animenzzz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I was also surprised to realize that I ended up using a 3 hand technique in literally every section of this song (except the octave run in the finale) because it was definitely not planned when I started to arrange it, haha
      But Grand Escape was literally made for this, due to its moderate tempo and the way the original song was orchestrated, with all these instrument voices running in the background.
      Thank you for your highlights again! 3:05 was indeed a sneaky one and you have to move your right hand very quickly and precisely in order to create that 3 hand illusion

    1本の手に何本の指があるのか分からなくなり、4本の手があるように見えました。
    ピアノだけではなく、1人でオーケストラを演っているような音が聞こえてきます。
    長くて細い指が左右に飛び跳ねるので、鍵盤の上を肌色の蜘蛛が自由に走り回っているよう。

    In the description Animemz mentions moments that remind him why he loves being an anime fan.
    Videos like this remind me of one of the reasons I love being an anime fan. I don't know any other Fandom with as much dedication.
    Anime is a part of us. We'll spend hours, days and weeks getting our cosplay *just* right. We'll start learning a second language because we don't like subtitles or how American voice acting just falls short. Even if we don't really know the language, we'll at least memorize the words so we can sing along to our favorite OP.
    And geniuses like Animenz can gain global recognition for dedicating his considerable music talent to expressing *his* love of anime.
