Kawaki wo Ameku (Crying for Rain) is really one of the most amazing songs I have heard in the last few years, thanks to the incredible singer Minami and her fantastic way of articulating the lyrics. You can literally feel, how her voice is reaching out to the deepest part of your soul.
It’s hard to explain, but this song feels like a "lost twin" of another song: “unravel” from “Tokyo Ghoul”. The similar chorus melody, the similar chord progression, the similar song structure with the “soft” part at the beginning - the similarities are astonishing.
Before I started to arrange this song, I actually practiced many of my old piano arrangements again in order to re-learn my "old arrangement style" (which focuses a lot on piano technique). And similar to my "unravel" piano arrangement, I am also utilizing many notes from the high register of the piano to create a cold - and lonely - atmosphere. I am pretty sure you can hear many similar sections between these two arrangements.
Last but not least: It took me almost three times the amount of time to fully arrange and perform "Kawaki wo Ameku" compared to my other pieces. It is a very technical piece after all but I think all the efforts are worth it. It has also been a while since my "most difficult piano arrangement" playlist has been updated as well.

This is probably the most intense piece you create since your steinway came back, as usual , let’s highlight some details in this piece:
The staccato bass is everywhere, but some of them are outstanding:
0:27 that tenth bass is reaallly satisfying
0:59 omg , I think only the second chrous of tamashii no refrain can beat that punch
2:06 my favorite bass part in this pieces , It’s just like an elegant cat walking on the key.
2:57 that rapid bass along with high note in the right hand gives great contrast
That’s for the bass, then let’s move on to something interesting I noticed:
0:51 the right hand is playing A, G#, F#, animenz use alternative fingering to hold the F# which followed by E, D, C#, B , beautiful !
1:03 the first chorus start, and immediately I notice that every left hand bass is followed by some chord contained E4, at that same time , the right hand chord has something to do with E5.
AND THAT’S NOT THE MOST INTENSE E YET
The following 1:28 is EPIC , the nonstop E4 woven by both hand , that’s definitely my favorite part of this arrangement!!!!! (1:29 you hold A to give it sustain sound is also nice touch)
2:38 similarly, but now the bass note is followed by some chord contains E5
3:40 that scale in the middle section really add a lot of color , I remember you once said in some description that you like to use scale to build a sound wall.
4:12 can I call that two octave? I notice that you recently like to use two octave( i.e 3 same note) in the arrangement , I like that !
Then let’s talk about some special 3 hand technique part:
1:43 that right hand accompany melody is really well chosen
2:12 the 3 hand technique CHORUS!!!! Haha ,I complain about the chorus last time and Animenz just DELIVER!!!!
2:21 I especially like this part , the hight notes are F#, G#, A, B, which is the same note you use as right hand melody at 0:03
Finally it’s the “same vibe to…” part:
3:01 that flowing left hand remind me of your A Cruel Angel’s crisis (2:58)
3:49 that some how give me the same vibe of the final climax of the chopin ballade in g minor
3:57 that heavenly left hand melody is almost identical to your Connect arrangement!!!! Which has one of my favorite ending among all your arrangement.

One of the smoothest things i've ever seen
3:01 ... I think that part summarizes how I feel about this arrangement. It feels like the old animenz. There is a visible abundance of notes, and each and every note is crisp clear. The right hand is completely insane through this piece, and some of the three hand techniques you've managed to pull here are beyond me. Easily up there with some of your more harder arrangements.
Technical difficulty does not sacrifice musicality. Beautiful arrangement. It may not be completely on par with your unravel (on a technical difficulty scale), but I feel like the whole crisp clear dynamics along with a great abundance of notes is really reminiscent of unravel's arrangement style.

This is far more amazing than I could explain in word.
Perfection down to the last atom
Even though most of Animenz’s older arrangements are more difficult to perform, I still prefer his current, more rhythm based arranging style. This arrangement in particular seems to utilize the best of both worlds. In other words, this is a masterpiece that far exceeded my expectations. This is the kind of channel that I proudly recommend to other people because of the simple fact that Animenz always delivers!
The longer I arrange, the more I realize that rhythm is truly the most important foundation of every piano arrangement.
In my old arrangements, I added fancy left hand arpeggios to make the arrangement sound more virtuosic, but nowadays I prefer to use a strongly articulated rhythmic patterns instead.
I hope I can find more things to improve my arrangement in the future as well!

Absolutely stunning - there are really no words to describe the perfection of this arrangement. The three week wait for this was absolutely worth it, and this is by far one of your best arrangements of all time. Everything about this piece was ear candy of the highest order, from the dynamic control to the flowing arpeggios and powerful, crisp, distinctive jumps. Combined with the 3-hand technique and the brilliant musicality and technique, this arrangement really combines the absolute best of every style you've perfected over the past decade! I'm definitely going to listen to this on repeat (and I'm sure I'll discover something new every time). It's arrangements like these that bring all of us to your channel time and time again, no matter how long the wait.
It has definitely been a while since you've uploaded a piece that challenged your top 10 most difficult arrangements, but this did not disappoint. It's also quite fitting that this ended up being uploaded today - exactly one week before the 10th anniversary of the arrangement that started the tradition of "insane" Animenz arrangements, and one of the most iconic of all time! Only time will tell if this arrangement will join the ranks of Kuusou Mesorogiwi, My Dearest, Unravel, etc. as one of the most iconic Animenz arrangements of all time, but I believe it almost certainly will.

I don't think people realize how hard it is to maintain such a clear and consistent melody line between two hands and awkward fingers at 2:13, especially in a middle register while flashy stuff is happening in the melody and bass. I had to do a double take and actually look at the video because it sounded like the melody was being played by one hand... the piece is actually harder than it sounds, truly the mark of a great pianist

Playing this for my next school concert and unravel took me 8 month to learn and perform on school and now i feel like this a bit more difficult cause i am not used to the technique in this piece but i will spend so much time learning this and i love that the fact that when i play animenz’s piece alot of people think i have such big talent so ty for making a pianist that has a talent you inspire me

Wow, this was unbelievably good. Crying for rain is one of my favorite songs, and it really feels like you captured the emotions in the song perfectly!
Over the years since the song came out, I’ve heard a lot of different piano covers. But there is literally no way anyone comes close to this arrangement in regards to how goddamn grand and epic it is. I haven’t been this hype for a piano video in a very long time.

Anyway, all your hard work paid off and it is very much worthed it! The octave jumps, the smooth transition of both hands for the 3 voices part, the melodious flow of arpeggios and clean thirds, the insane use of left hand octaves for beats, and above all, the superb audio quality! Today's performance is absolutely soothing and beautiful, indeed music to the ears!

Glad to see Animenz cover it, IT IS GREAT. My favourite part is the verse and the second pre-chorus. Very smooth and similar to the actual song, others' cover are great too but I always have a "strange" feeling at these part and you killed it haha.

I love how you actually used that particular left hand pattern in the chorus for it matches the groove intended for the song. Knowing unravel, it's already full of risky jumps similar to that voicing shift at 2:13, though what intrigued me the most was that transition to the higher register at 2:40 which reminded me so much of the second chorus of your Unravel arrangement, Animenz's arranging skills never cease to impress 👏

This is phenomenal. The way the emotions are still there and the fact that you could actually play it at such a high tempo was phenomenal.

What a great return to the intensity and technicality of your original style! The polyphony is off the charts in this arrangement, especially with how precisely you're able to make multiple voices ring out evenly within a single hand at various points throughout:
-0:41 third voice subtly peeking through in the RH of the second phrase of the first verse
-1:44 classic three hand melody throughout the second verse. The middle melody resonates through the other voices
-2:13 not quite an overlapping melody, but the upper voices in the right hand ring out so nicely in the second chorus
-3:27 the secondary RH melody shining through the arpeggios in the closing phrase
-3:41 ending with by far the most impressive one. it can't be understated how difficult it is to combine the finger isolation in the RH melody with large jumps
Really enjoyed pinpointing the details within this cover. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us next!

It's great to finally see you do justice to a Minami piece on piano - especially with how it was imbued with your technique from your golden-era of arrangements. Would love to see you cover the Takt Op. Destiny opening theme - which I feel is the closest spiritual successor to Guilty Crown's My Dearest that ryo/supercell has produced - especially with the guitar riffs, song/bridge structure, piano/string sub-melodies, and the chorus instrumentals!

Watching some of your old videos, there definitely is a difference in skill. I wouldn't call a single video of yours bad, but in the past, it sometimes seemed like you were struggling to play what you'd composed because of how insane it was.
It doesn't feel that way anymore, it's like your skill caught up to what you were trying to do, and it boggles my mind that someone who was already incredible could improve even more.
This song feels like the style of your older videos with the technique and skill of your newer ones, and I love it.

Imagine if someone says: "So you play piano, why don't you play something for me?" And you start playing this.
Just at a random party chilling and some dude holding like, a Michelob Ultra or something, and he says, "sure, It's been a while since I played! Don't expect anything crazy!" And fullheartedly means it when he says it. He sits down at the piano and starts ripping it to shreds with this.
We can never say that we have heard the perfect piano cover of a song... until animenz makes one.
Even if almost every anime pianist and their ancestors have covered this song, you still have that animenz magic that separates you from others. With this i was curious, do you listen to other covers before you arrange a song or is it purely your own thinking and imagination?

This was absolutely incredible! I've held out on commenting on this one, even though I've had it on loop almost *constantly* since it came out, to really think of what I wanted to say. I haven't heard this song before, but this arrangement had me hooked on first listen, similar to what happened with "One Last Kiss" for me (sidenote for that one - I've attempted playing it, and it's so insanely tiring stamina wise? I didn't realize how exhausting it was to play from just listening haha, I'm even more impressed now).
I then listened to the original song, and WOW is it good, I understand why people compare it to Unravel! It has that same sort of grit and energy to it, along with a very honest vocal performance. Stunning song through and through. And fittingly, this arrangement translates that energy perfectly!

2:13 I really love that additional octave-jump voice in the higher register during the chorus! Adds a feeling of build up
2:29 I think for this one credit goes to both the original song and the arrangement, the melody line in addition to those jumping octaves in the right hand is my single favorite moment of the whole thing, can't really explain why
Overall, this is exactly what I have been wishing for, because I'm EXTREMELY biased towards this style of arranging from you-the technically insane, exciting, challenging one that's so much fun to listen to but even more fun to try and play! I've attempted to learn a lot of your arrangements from that circa-2014 time period, and even though some have proved a bit too challenging, I still had a ton of fun practicing! Can't wait to give this one a go! (I haven't commented in a while, so congrats on the release of your official sheet music as well!)

Damn, those 4 mins went by really quickly. This arrangement is kinda like an evolution with elements of the 2015 'Unravel' era Animenz, but also with the insane coordination and poly hand techniques of season 2 Animenz. Really liked the dynamics on this one.
