      Hummm!! I like channels that don't post political crap and stick to farming! But now that Frank j opened that door.
      I don't give a darn what side of the isle you are on. ALL Americans deserve the truth. If there is nothing to hide lets put witness and evidence before the house and get this crap behind us once and for all and get back to the business of running our country. The whole D and R thing has out lived its day like steam engine.
      Never seen so much division in our country because people will put party before country and their scared of the potus.

      Your stack oil is from unburnt fuel. Under load it should clear up. If you aren't going to work it hard, turn the fuel pump down a half turn and it should stop. Another hint is to shut the tractor off instead of letting it idle. Great job! Have followed you from the beginning and enjoy every video.

    Hey Andy! Dad's 820 will "stack some tar" -oil in the exhaust, put a load on it -sweat her out for a bit,clears right up.Comes back after running around without much load or a lot of idle time.Been around older diesels-stationary set ups-,not enough heat,not enough load.The ol girls telling you something "Is that all you got!,Give me a PLOW!!".Great video, always love to see that onry ass grin.

    Before I did any motor work I’d put that on a plow and work the hell out of it she might seal back up just my two cents.. I love the tractor she’s not a 2020 ❤️❤️

    Hi Andy, it is great to see the 856 out in the field. I'm a John Deere guy but I must say the 856 in a beautiful looking tractor and sounds great. Thanks for giving it a new life. Great to see a manure spreader in action. I remember being involved as a youngster with a JD spreader that was powered by the wheels. Nice camera work from Kylie and super drone shots. THANKS!! - Dean from Minnesota

    I was waiting to hear, "I'm excited" however, the big smile at the first of the video was more than excited. What a great tractor, and a great video. Love the Drone part. I may repete myself, but then I'm 77. Andy! This video brings back great memories. Keep in mind, I'm looking back at 1951, when I started helping grandpa farm. and then 1959, went in the Army. Was suppoesed to come back and take over the farming. Long story why that didn't happen. I did buy 8 acres from mom and had draft ponies, pygmy goats and chickens. Had a few antique tractors through the years. A Ford 861 gas, John Deere 70, 2 cylinder, 930, Case Comfort King, cab tractor, and we farmed with a Ford Golden Jubilee, and Frord 8n. Thank you, thank you! Only those as old as I am will understand how these videos effect us. I can say I was almost in tears watching your videos. I hope, someday to be able to come visit! God bless, you and your family. Central Indiana

      Don Croddy I’m 76, to young to remember when I started farming, probably (3 or 4) Milk cows till my early 60s, cropped till 4 years ago. Grew up in a neighborhood of all colors Allis, Case, Deere, Farmall, Fords, Massey, .McCormick Deering, Minnies and Oliver. Dad had Farmall H “42” and Supper W6 “53”. As a teenager he started in 1919 with a IHC Titan, mid 20s a McCormick 10-20. Brother and I bought 756 new in “68” and was used till “88”. Enjoyed watching Andy working on his 856 and your comments! Keep smiling! From snow covered Northeast Wisconsin. 🌨🌨🌨🌨🤗🤔 (we like it here)

    You are a complete inspiration to me I watch you do things with your feet that are hard with my hands…. Some days I act like I have it tuff or bad and then here you are not complaining at all making everything happen with your feet and toes…. You are one hell of a man sir…. You keep on grinding and doing your thing if I didn’t see you do all this I wouldn’t or couldn’t believe you are able to do all this… I guess really it’s mind over matter and you can do anything you want regardless of the situation you are dealt in life…. God only gives his biggest battles to his strongest soldiers I love your story and everything you stand for….

    My dad had a couple of manure spreaders like those. Later he bought one that was like a giant barrel shape that slung the manure out the side with chains. It worked much better than the other style. Now we don't have any nearby neighbors with chicken houses to get manure from. Most of the farms in our area have been sold and developed onto subdivisions. Watching your vlogs brings back lots of memories. Thanks for sharing.

    Andy that sure is a nice old tractor. You will get it to stop with the oil leaks I`m sure. I sure do enjoy watching your videos. They make me feel good to watch them. I used to work on my own farm called the Fork Farm in Virginia. I had to lease it out because I can`t walk any longer due to a stroke. Man I sure do miss climbing on my tractors and just getting lost in my little world. I`m sure you know what I mean. lol Well Andy take care and have fun for me. Thank you and have a wonderful day my friend.

    Good evening Andrew, thank you for the video, perhaps the valve stems are worn and the valve stem seals have gone hard!! Glazed cylinder bore' s or broken stuck oil rings on the piston's , like some of your viewers have said try and work the engine hard for a while. Take care and catch you next time 👍😎🇬🇧.

      I checked up on whats available on the net, and see that some earlier models was without stem seals and the later models had extra grooves cut in the guides for the seals. Best maybe to take a look under the tappet cover.

    The 407 is known for “wet stacking” under light loads and idle time. My 856 does the same thing on the manure spreader, but put it on the discbine and it won’t do it all summer, it was worse before I had the pump and injectors done. If it was mine I would have the pump and injectors rebuilt and then pull the hell outta that motor. Keep up the good work tractor looks great

    • @HarmlessFarmerAndyDetwiler
      @HarmlessFarmerAndyDetwiler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pump and injectors are definetly on the need to do list. I want to take it to town and dyno it before we do too much to the engine just so we know how it runs before and after. Thanks for watching

      Harmless Farmer - Andy Detwiler also on my 856 I did a major out of frame over haul with less then 1000hrs on it, it wet stacked before the rebuild and it still wet stacks. It runs out at 98hp. There’s some videos of it on my channel, my videos arnt of the quality of yours tho lol. Always look forward to your uploads.

    I have to say that I think you were exactly right on how that buffing and polishing came out on the tin, Andy. Being outside in the natural light gives a different perspective, too. And not that it really matters, but you're doing the right thing by going at it this way over painting it, in my book. Real nice to see the old girl out doing some farm work. Hopefully this little run gives all you need to figure out what all else she needs. Looks like the step and seat are going to be options you won't regret. I'm looking forward to your next vid, as always, regardless if it's about Ol' Red here or not. Thanks!

    Hello Andy, quick story. Back in 19n76 when I was a young idiot, popped over a hill on a Kawasaki 900 between Bellbrook n Waynesville only to find a sh*t spreader behind a tractor, locked frt n back brakes up, laid in down, didn't get hurt, but I think I'd spread more sh*t than he did!! Learnt my lesson!! Lol!! Great job on the IH!!

    Thanks for the ride along. The ol' 856 was sounding pretty good. I see several have made some good suggestions for the exhaust oil issue. Stay safe.

  • @kennolte5801
    @kennolte5801 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm not sure where the oil is coming from on the hood but a couple of guys have mentioned putting a load on it for awhile. My view from afar makes me think they are right. Not knowing what all it was used for back when it was used, I would suspect low load or excessive idling. Don't overload it but I would give it few rounds on a plow and see if it clears up. Excessive idling is hard on any engine so the damage may be done. It looks like a great tractor even if you have to some major maintenance. The family time with your daughter was a bonus. God bless you for sharing the results.

    • @HarmlessFarmerAndyDetwiler
      @HarmlessFarmerAndyDetwiler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching Ken. Family time to me is important and im lucky I get to work with family, daughter, wife, dad, uncle brother, and cousin every day. If the tractor needs more work, we will dive in and do it. This is the way it is when you but a tractor out of the weeds that hasn't run for several years, you find the problems and fix them. This is the kind of work that I like doing so im looking forward to whatever is coming.

  • @johnhalter445
    @johnhalter445 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have the same oil leak on my 806 under the seat. I hope you film the fix. I was told it’s very common and is usually a O ring but some springs and detent balls that fall out during disassembly.

    • @HarmlessFarmerAndyDetwiler
      @HarmlessFarmerAndyDetwiler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL, well if theres things that can be lost, I'll lose them for sure. We have a great mechanic at the local IH store and he has been super helpful guiding me through working on this tractor. I think im going to fix the leak on the left side of the engine first, then the seat. Keep at it John, Do what you can. That way you wont look back and say I wish I had tried that.

    enjoyed the video. Reminds me of my high school years mucking out stalls into a manure spreader and then spreading it in the field. The steps look like they work great. I also thought the camera getting covered in crap right off the bat was hilarious.

    Hi Andy,and Kylie, thanks for another great video, it was good to see the old tractor doing some work, sounds fine. When Kylie put the camera in the manure, I thought NOW we're gonna see something!. We did it was WSHTF, or in this cse ,WSHTÇ, ha, ha ! That cracked me up, . I can see those oil leaks are starting to bother you Andy, you'll get to em one at a time I'm sure, the black stuff coming from the exhaust looks like a case of condensation, heat, and oily residue loosening up and coming out the muffler onto the hood, looks pretty black, as if there's soot in it?. As an old mechanic I've seen this happen before on other diesel's , not whith modern stuff I add, just a thought. Kylie the drone footage, gives a whole new perspective on whats happening, thank you for your efforts. Best wishes to you and family, Stuart uk.

    Hi Andy, First thing to do is smell the oil, it may be a cooked diesel the issue, then is a bad injector, if its oil it may be a worn or broken or stuck oil ring in one of the cylinders. If it smokes lot and if this was the case, the crankcase level should go down. You can just remove the manifold and you will see the problem . And the sound of the engine tell me that you don’t have a turbo on it, because some time there is a return line lubricating the turbo which leaks. This is my thought, and hope it may help. Thanks for sharing Andy all the best from Canada.

    Nice video! Just keep checking the oil. I have heard people say john deere 4020's and the neighbors IH 1206 did that only his gave a high oil level on dip stick after overhaul. The mechanic said you have to run it. The problem went away. l agree with Rex!
