You is an American psychological thriller television series based on the books by Caroline Kepnes, developed by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble, and produced by Berlanti Productions, Alloy Entertainment, and A+E Studios in association with Warner Horizon Television, now Warner Bros. Television.
The first season, which is based on the novel You, premiered on Lifetime in September 2018, and follows Joe Goldberg, a bookstore manager and serial killer who falls in love and develops an extreme obsession. The season stars Penn Badgley, Elizabeth Lail, Luca Padovan, Zach Cherry, and Shay Mitchell. Lifetime announced in July 2018 that You had been renewed for a second season, based on Kepnes' follow-up novel Hidden Bodies. The series later moved to Netflix and the second season was released in December 2019. The season follows Joe as he moves to Los Angeles and falls in love with local heiress Love Quinn. For the second season, Ambyr Childers was upgraded to a series regular, joining newly cast Victoria Pedretti, James Scully, Jenna Ortega, and Carmela Zumbado.
In January 2020, the series was renewed for a third season by Netflix, which was released on October 15, 2021. In the third season, Saffron Burrows was upgraded to a series regular, joining newly cast Travis Van Winkle, Shalita Grant, Tati Gabrielle, and Dylan Arnold. In October 2021, ahead of the third season premiere, the series was renewed for a fourth season. The first part of the fourth season is scheduled to premiere on February 9, 2023, with the second part scheduled for release on March 9.

One thing you'll notice about this show is that even though Joe is a serial killer this show does a good job of making everyone so un-likable you'll end up either rooting for Joe or rooting for Joe to kill them.
Yes! I have this theory that it plays out that way bc the show is narrated by Joe, an unreliable narrator. He looks around at everyone (other than reflections of himself and the eye of his affections) as un-likeable and annoying and easily disposable, which makes us view them that way in return bc he's the one explaining everything to us. The most current season really solidified that for me tbh

The second and third seasons were better than the books but the 1 book did a better job with Beck. In the book she was a bit narcissistic she knew he was stalking her and was addicted to attention and was very manipulative her character was so interesting in the book, especially in the last few chapters

Joes inner monologue is my favorite thing ever he’s so shady to everyone lmao. And it’s weird cause all the people Joe kills are so insufferable, you find yourself rooting for him. Which is dangerous.

Every character in this show annoyed me 😭 especially peach, beck and Joe. Like they’re all so irritating but at the same time the shows so addicting 😂
I disagree with the professor thing. The way they show it, he clearly initiated all this flirting and she was uncomfortable but didn't want to say no and upset him, or let him play into it because she clearly needs his support and to work for him for her housing. She's not the brightest but if she's really a bad writer then he should have dismissed her and told her as her mentor. He clearly understood the advantage he had in the dynamic, and the show clearly shows her life was a mess. She made dumb decisions but it's been clear she was uncomfortable from the beginning. She did not actively want to lead him on, and only had to manage the situation that he clearly created. She tried to make the choice to give him what he wanted cause she's desperate, but ultimately was too uncomfortable to go through with it. I don't see the intent your talking about.

Yeah. I get that Beck shouldn't have went on that date with her professor but he was wrong for offering the date and being handsy in the first place, being her professor and married, and she was obviously desperate yet uncomfortable with him, and he played on that. I also feel like just because she slept with guys before quicker, you aren't entitled or shouldn't expect the same with you, it's under different circumstances with a different person. And Joe definitely isn't a nice guy or the good guy in this situation 😂

I get that beck is annoying but I think the professor was in the wrong because he should not be sleeping or taking advantage of students. I also believe that beck has known her friends longer than joe so obviously she might have a bit more trust in them but I also understand that beck can be a bit stupid at times and not see her friends as horrible people

I had a friend once tell me they'd kill themselves if I ever left them, and that sentence alone had me scared to leave them. In my head it would be my fault if they did, so I stayed - even when things started to get really bad for me. It was a fight between wanting to be free of them for my mental health and wanting to keep them alive (also for my own mental health), unfortunately the latter won 7 years straight before I burnt the bridge. It's easy to get trapped by toxic people at a young age, especially if you've been loyal to them for a long time, so in a way I know what Beck is going through. It's tough.
I actually ripped into a guy for trying to make me feel I was the reason he wanted to kill himself (cuz he was creepy and I turned him down). I was suicidal too and had been hurt and ready to kill that asshole for daring to put me through that.

Legally speaking, the professor is always in the wrong in these situations. It's the power dynamic. Also, there is no way staff at this university wasn't trained on very stringent sexual harassment policies, same as everywhere else. So, you can say he knew what he was doing as well, and chose to act anyway, despite knowing it was wrong and could get him terminated.
From what I know (from a very well-written porn game, admittedly), even if the student voluntarily enters into a sexual relationship with a professor this can still be grounds for dismissal. In terms of knowing better, that's on the person who is in a position of authority, and that's just what it comes down to, in the end.

Someone you're not emotionally or romantically attached or attracted to is a VERY different situation that a person who you want to romantically pursue and potentially have a long-term relationship with.... It's a very very different dynamic. So that's why some women or men are "like that" where they'll have one-night stands and be completely fine having casual sex but want to take things slow when they're starting an actual relationship.

To explain the hooking up with some guys thing but moving slow with others is something I do and can explain. A hook up is just that a hook up, a good time. Half of the time they are just there for a good time the other half they may want to date you. But the entire time you have to be thinking is it just because we had sex or I’m good in bed. Then they also just always expect sex after that point and become cruel or distant when you don’t. Sometimes you want to move slower with particular guys because you don’t want to just be fun or seen as purely a sexual object. It’s hard when you enjoy sex but also want to be seen as an actual person. Beck is not a good character/person by any means but I feel like the things you’ve been calling her out for I don’t fully agree with because it’s complicated. I feel like women will have a different perspective on this than men though, especially when you have been there to some extent.

About the teacher situation. I also agree with the professor at some part. She was flirting with him the whole time and yes didnt put enough effort into it, tho he should know better then let this flirting affect him. Also Beck in general is like the most boring and basic character, I didnt like her at all.

You actually had pretty solid commentary I would say, even if others may perceive it as a bit controversial. Beck was playing around with Joe intially it felt like - enjoying the attention of a "good guy" but unwilling to commit. Her friends are toxic but she was a big enabler of this behaviour and a little toxic and annoying herself.

I don’t agree with the teacher, I guess guys would definitely lean towards the teacher and the girls would lean towards beck, beck obviously didn’t think he would go as far as he did, especially since he was married, she just wanted to butter him up and leave him hanging to get what she wanted, but that doesn’t mean the teacher should touch her inappropriately and blame her for his actions because he thinks with his dick instead of his brains. Both the professor and Beck were in the wrong. He's creepy and Beck is dumb for flirting with him constantly and knowingly putting herself in that situation. I, also, agreed with the professor when he said stop flirting and write better.

Only have seen the first season of this show and it's crazy bug pretty good. Peach was a bit of a gaslighter. Shay Mitchell, she's done stuff before this like Pretty Little Liars. She played Emily Fields on that show and she did a movie called The Posession of Hannah Grace. Underrated actress but Elizabeth Lail, she did stuff like Countdown which wasn't very good, the TV series Once Upon A Time and she's in Five Nights at Freddy's this October.

btw, I think I can shed some light on the whole being fast with some people, and then going slow with those that might be good for you. This is all about self-preservation (not a conscious choice though) but it's all about fear from childhood trauma. With Beck's dad being the way he was, she was not growing up in a safe environment, and anyone going through that with a parent, will have issues with people getting too close emotionally (of course that type of trauma isn't the only thing that can make you afraid of that).
That's what it's all about, that we want to take it slow because we need time to get used to someone else getting too close. When going the fast route, we don't really let them in. Letting someone in too fast will only cause panic and make you push the other person away out of, again, self-preservation.
Im not guna spoil..all im saying is i just watched the newest season...and the last season is FUCKING BANANAS. Me and my wife were in such shock we just looked at each other wide eyed and were like WTF DID WE JUST WATCH. So its worth it to get to the last half of the 4th season
