The motor parts are electroplated at the factory. Once you wire wheel off the rust and rest of the plating, those bare metal parts starts to rust again pretty quickly. I think you should put on somekind of coating or electro plate them again, if you have planned to really use that impact driver. Otherwise the rust will seize the motor again. Nice save, well done nevertheless!
Hya @WCKD, sorry to bug you, but would Nickel Plating work in this instance, instead of Electroplating? I only ask because another channel I watch is AJ Restorations, and he deals mainly with small--(mower type)--engines. He does a lot of Nickel plating for the smaller items on these engines like, bolts, nuts, washers etc, etc. @HBrestoration: Do not worry, we are all here to learn off other peoples knowledge and their experiences! It does not matter that a restorer does not have a sandblast machine, or a bearing puller, these thing's can be overcome with ''other methods'' of removal, so do not worry unduly my friend, you are doing just great as you are--(just keep on buying NEW bearing's for your restorations, OR repack not-so-bad bearings with good grease...this is MY biggest bug bear, and what I look for in all restorations!!)--keep up the good work that you are doing!! (From Mikky, on his wifes computer...SHHH!!)
@@hbrestoration Soak it in vinegar for 2 days to make sure the rust is removed, then use a pressure washer to remove rust particles from the magnet and use contact cleaner. worked for me.
