Out of the top 5 videos I saw for this program yours was by far the most thorough. You explained the controls themselves which is what was tripping me up. The other guys would jump right in to "Ok let make this object." They would briefly describe projects, and how to save your file, but wouldn't describe the controls themselves. Thank you for breaking this down and being thorough.
I agree with this. spent a great chunk of my day yesterday getting lost on small things in the previous tutorials. this is much better if you're getting your hands on for the first time
I don't comment on videos often, but I have to say - this tutorial was amazing. Crystal clear, straight to the point but also not skipping over details. I am so happy to have found your videos and I will be going over your Fusion 360 beginner playlist over the next several days to learn the basics and hopefully start designing my own models for 3D printing!
I have been toying with 360 for 5 years with troubles. I finally bought the subscription for my business and an employee who knows how to use it. You speak my language of learning, whatever language that is. THANK YOU SO MUCH, the first 15 min. have been sooooo helpful. I am looking forward to all your videos here!!!
I so much enjoyed this part 1. I have tried other tutorials and constantly got lost. I appreciate you going into the more detail of what you click on etc. I did have a problem following you in one part, the dowel. After many failures, I finally got it to work but I don't understand how. I guess what I don't understand is how you selected the hole (circle). I hope you can clear that up for me or direct me to where I could get a better understanding of this. You have the best instruction I have yet found and I plan to stay with you as my primary instructional video. Thanks
It took me a few minutes of playing around to figure out what happened here too. At 14:27 he sets Sketch1 to visible. Once you do that, the middle of the circle will become selectable and you can use the extrusion tool like he shows at 19:10.
I am positively impressed and grateful for your willingness to help rookies like me understand the intricacies of Fusion 360. Very well presented and easy to follow. 👍
I am SO glad to see you've refreshed your "Beginner" videos ... which was great (the best, actually) for getting me started many years ago. Since I haven't been using Fusion for awhile, this is the perfect refresher for me, so a hearty "Thanks".
This is the best introductory video on Fusion 360 that I've found. I've been manhandling Tinkercad for the last 5 years and decided to join the big kids with Fusion 360. This video helped a TON. Thank you!
As a engineering student, I've heard that Fusion 360 was a great tool to use, but I was afraid to do so because I thought it was complex. I've used it before, but I needed a bit more than a refresher. This helps a ton for what I need to do, Thank you.
Your tutorials on CG Essentials were always my go-to resource when learning Blender. Now that I'm getting into 3d printing, Fusion 360 comes highly recommended as a modeling tool. So, I was so pleased to stumble onto these tutorials for Fusion. Your manner of presenting concepts in a clear, understandable way is great. Keep up the great work.
As a complete beginner, this is by far my favorite series on this software! My main question is - is there anything different I should be doing if I am mainly creating objects for 3D printing as opposed to woodworking (or other forms of manufacturing?) Such as: Should I still be creating new bodies for different "parts" of my files - or should I be joining them? Thanks again for the great tutorials!
You have saved me so much time. I'm new to Fusion and trying to create my own projects for 3D printing. This has been a life and time saver for me for making useful and simple things. Thank you sir. Liked and subscribed.
Hopefully, you figured it out by now, but in case you didn't: Go to your left side that lists all the sketches, select 'Sketch1'. On the left side, there is what looks like a little eye. You need to click on that to make the sketch visible and then you'll see the center dot in the middle of the hole. Hope that helps. Hutch
Wow, Thank you so much. I am an AutoCAD and Solid Works guy, I've always had a "mental block" to learning Fusion 360. This video has certainly removed the entry level barrier for me.
Thanks for the great tutorial. I was only having one small issue. When i go to create the dowel and extrude it, its extruding the entire top all of the way across and not just the circle even though i only have the circle selected..
You just convinced me to use Fusion 360 for my modeling hobby. I have been using AutoCAD LT for 20 years as a commercial foodservice designer, so Fusion 360 has similar operations and processes. I will be downloading the program and then following your fine tutorial.
Hey Justin, thank you for providing free access and indexing such great education. Your earlier vidoes were some of the only useful Fusion videos I could find for many years as a beginner,
Thank You , one thing i hate is when someone makes a video and says FOR BEGINNERS and its not ,,it is what you said and i probably will watch it again , its what i was looking for . thanks again
Great instructional video! I do have one question. I have a 4k monitor and the grid lines are hard to see. In prefs under drawing I maxed out the setting but no decernable difference, am I missing something to get darker grid lines? thanks again for you support.
Thanks for the intro, I'm just dipping my toes into Fusion for the first time, having dabbled with FreeCAD and not much enjoying it. Fusion looks a lot slicker and intuitive. (It should do!) Question: 15:51 What's the advantage of keeping each sketch/extrusion as a separate body rather than joining them?
I've tried a few other tutorials and felt like they were missing steps or not explaining what just happened. Frustrating. This? I learned more in the first 15 minutes than in all the other tutorials I tried. Thanks for such a great product!
I use a metrology program called Polyworks at work. While it has a completely different purpose, there are slight similarities. I enjoyed learning how to use it and it had made me become more interested in Fusion for designing my own ideas. I downloaded the free version, and this video really helped me learn the basics. Looking forward to watching your other videos.
After many years of learning how to do "Old School" Drafting, then moving on to a basic CAD program (Delta CAD) about 10 years ago, I've had to find a new CAD software to use. So far from what I've found, your's is most comprehensive Fusion 360 for Dummies I've found. I'm in the process of drawing a Theil cabinet for a guitar speaker. Although, had I pulled out my "Drafting tools" I'd probably be done by now......LOL. But I hope to advance to creating stuff for my 3d printer.
I don't understand why my extrude command gives me an arrow opposite from yours. To extrude in the same direction, front to back, I put a negative before the distance. Not on all the extrudes, just the ones on the first part, the first end piece and later the dowel.
This looks like the tutorials I've been hoping for. Thank you. I'm having an issue where I can't see/edit the dimensions of a sketch. Is there a state where sketches can get in where they no longer offer the menu item "show dimensions"? Is there a reason when I can get the menu item to show, it doesn't seem to show the dimensions?
I have completely maxed out tinkercad's capabilities and I am finally sitting down and learning fusion360. This was amazingly helpful and I am kicking myself for not jumping ship sooner!
What caused me a problem was at about 18:24, the rectangle tool is used to carefully mark out the EXTREME corners, but then a little later, when performing the extrude, the 'missing long rectangular section also has to be selected to obtain the full base. The words used are "make sure that I've picked up this face as well", which I missed on a couple of viewings. The question is why ?
I got tripped up on the same thing. Why didn't it just grab the whole thing when you select the rectangle? I'm so brand new to this that I may not even be asking the right question. In any case, @koshkakk, thanks for your comment; you saved me from flunking the first tutorial!
Thank you. I've seen many tutorials for different 3D software. This one is the best. Finally, I can learn Fusion and start modeling.Subscribed and liked
Great video, at first fusion does not seem intuitive at all, but I think with just watching the first video of yours , it does become more intuitive. So hopefully by binge watching your videos, while doing it on my laptop, I’ll be able to make some simple objects for my 3d printer 🙏🏻
THANK YOU! I have been thinking of starting to learn this for hobby projects, and have been frustrated until now. I use a Cricut, and the software is very similar to Windows....but fusion is a more professional tool that needs some work. I sat, watched and have been able to create what I want to draw, well started to anyway.
The most frustrating thing about Fusion is nothing seems to work for me like what is demonstrated. @21:30 When I click the inside face of the object, then try to create a sketch for the wall, I cannot get the line to continue past the 2nd point. I click to place the first point, enter 3/4 for the length, the tool asks to specify the next point, when I click, the line ends. I'm not able to continue the line, it doesn't say specify the next point like it did when i created the first sketch. I must have accidentally turned something off that allows me to continue the line to create a shape, but I have no idea what. I've searched forums and no one else seems to have this issue. Any ideas?
Great timing on starting this series, I'm just getting started in Fusion 360, so thank you! Could you do a future video on making boxes with finger joints and how to deal with the Kerf? Also any design help with other laser cut projects.
Very new to Fusion so appreciate you making these tutorials. Have been able to follow mostly. Currently can’t highlight the hole to extrude the handle. Fusion keeps grabbing the whole side, so not sure what I’m doing wrong. Any ideas?
I had the same problem. After a bit of trial and error, I found out that the sketch for the end side was not visible and therefore the hole could not be selected. Once I made it visible it worked. Hopefully it solves the problem for you too.
Barely starting video, and Im wondering if youre going to cover 'revisiting settings'. Lets say I finished doing some adjustments to any parameter, how would I go back to that settings to adjust. I had issues doing that in another video tutorial. I didnt know how to adjust a mistake without ctr + z.
This Might be me getting ahead of myself. And maybe you did it this way to show the tools better. But I found once I had one wall and one side I merged the two objects and them duplicated them and rotated them/moved them until they moved into each other such that I mirrored the shape and had both sides and the front and the back. Is there a reason not to do this?
Hello That was a very good video Kindly reply I'm unable to do one thing that is I'm unable to extrude the circle. Kindly tell me what is the reason When I give the extrude command, there is no way of selecting the circle for extruding
Thank you for your tutorials. They are very helpful. I learned a lot from the ones you have for SketchUp and now that I want to learn Fusion 360 I'm glad to see you also have tutorials for Fusion 360 as well.
Hey just wanted to say thank you for the content. I watched one of your other series' to get started about a month ago when i got into 3d printing and making functional prints. It helped alot to follow your content.
I agree and support all the compliments said by others in their comm and I have some questions: you said to always select New Body and not Join. What is the reason for that? Is it specific to this project only? I, for e.g., need to make an enclosure (box + lid) for 3D printing with different material and/or vacuum casting. When is it ok to join the sketches?
Great tutorial. I am trying find a good program to start with. I am a 3D printer and want to design my own designs, without depending on Thingiverse which i can find a object that suites my purpose. Love how you walkthrough the steps. Thank you
thx for the video, great starting point. a few remarks as a millimeter user I can still type 1,5" and get the awkward length that is 1.5 inches as I had to repeatedly jump back and forth, chapter marks would have been helpful... also why not mention the fusion version somewhere easy to find for future watchers ? things change and videos unfortunately do not autoupdate... 👍
Great video. Might I suggest including design concepts for beginners. For example, Why separate "Bodies?" Why not "Join" as a selection as you add to your model.
A problem I have always had when starting with new programs is where all the files go. How do you organize a project etc? That seems to me the place to start. I have used Fusion 360 and can make sketches and create bodies. But I keep losing stuff because I don't understand the organization of stuff.
Hi, why when I add the wood colour some of the edges don't colour in? Like the wall of the tool chest is now wood but the top of the wall is still grey and it wont let me select appearance when I right click. Thanks
I think your video is awesome, well done and very good detail. I do have a question for you, When I make the bottom of the tool box, mine has to go in the negative direction because the front, back and sides are all touching the ZERO place if you will, the ground so to speak. somehow in your video it did not do that to you, is this an issue for example if I wanted to 3D print this? seems to me like a big problem as the printer head would be told to start printing below the printing plate? or am I thinking too deep about it? no pun intended.
One of the best tutorials I have seen , one thing is that when I true to extrude the circle just like u did at 19:20 it doesn't allow me to select the circle itself. Instead it allows me to select the whole side. Do u have any solution for this?
Ooo I found solution by myself 😂. It was so easy. You need to disselect hide mode for sketch in which was circle . For me it was sketch 1 . It need to be unhide than you can see point for circle from whom you can activate extrude.
@@TheFusionEssentials Thank you for the reply, but that's not what I meant. It's just so complicated to try to keep up with inches and feet; you don't really get a sense of the size. But thanks, otherwise, really good videos.
Thanks for the video. I just downloaded 360. Even though this is my first experience with cad software, it seems very intuitive but your playlist will save me tons of time. Liked and subscribed!
great video, helped me get started to design in Fusion 360, so far find a bit easier to use than onshape that i was using before, still trying to find some functions as they located in different menus. but hope it will only get easier for me
i must be having same issue, the bottom square lines are all black, but when i deleted the triangles center line, it made the triangle lines blue... and aft5er making the circle for the dowel, both that circle and the top square/bottom triangle line is red??? ... Idk i followed the dudes instructions... not sure
So if I were to 3D print this myself, would I need to create each part into its own component so that I can just easily assemble each part together once each part is done printing?
Justin, Great videos, But I am wondering if you could help me figure out how to make a sketch change to a specific size, actual dimensions. I made full size templates then took a picture of it with a 1" drawn on the template so i could trace over it both the periphery and the line I drew at exactly 1" . the shape i'm making is to fill in a corner of my truck sheet metal / Plasma... Another way I tried was measure the template width but when i click on the first point it is actually curved so it lights that up then i move the curser to the left side and click and that is an arc also I was hoping i could click each side and put the actual dimension in to grow the part to exact size? Thanks for trying to understand where i'm coming from -Rick
I found it! On one of Your videos of course. (th-cam.com/video/lmgFV-JTWxo/w-d-xo.html) You do a really good job of explaining things clearly, Thanks Justin!!
Keep them coming. I'm a sponge. I think the main issue I have with Fusion is that its hard to understand how intuitive it is. I overthink the the things i need to do to get what I want. I come from old cad/cam software.
I started and got as far as when inches are talked about for the first line, but mine seems setup for mm. Might be helpful to have mentioned how to make sure the design is using inches.
Given that you asked us to leave our queries and questions in the comments there arenmany answers. I complete the first body then no matter how I try i cannot make the sketch of the side work. Also, how do you zoom in and our while doing other operations?
Hi man, I am checking your video and I like that Fusion 360 seems very easy to use....I have a mac now but when I had a windows machine I used to use Caligari Truespace 7.5 with Vray, super super easy and can create great renderings, I use 3d for exhibition stands, interiors and exteriors...I don't know if you know TrueSpace but if you do...do you think Fusion 360 is a good alternative to TrueSpace? as I said, I'm on mac and I cannot longer use truespace and I don't want to use a VM. Cheers mate
The center point of your plain is not in the center of your screen, when I follow these directions mine is. The problem is that when I start sketching I run out of real-estate very quickly because it's running off screen. I can't seem to move the plain around like in Tinkercad. What setting to I need to adjust to have my center point offset like yours?
Thanks. Coming over from SketchUp Make 2017 lol. Do you have to group all those components prior to exporting as STL or is it clever enough to realize that is the intention?
At 17:09 this method is creating that side that's selected to be slightly offset on the side of the front, and there's no way to move it into position, well for a noob like me. Is there a way to move the wall into position again? I'm doing this with mm and not inches
Out of the top 5 videos I saw for this program yours was by far the most thorough. You explained the controls themselves which is what was tripping me up. The other guys would jump right in to "Ok let make this object." They would briefly describe projects, and how to save your file, but wouldn't describe the controls themselves. Agreed. "Make the object" is useless if you don't know how to first navigate its canvas.
I agree with this. spent a great chunk of my day yesterday getting lost on small things in the previous tutorials. this is much better if you're getting your hands on for the first time

Same for me, I couldn't extrude the handle.
Done some other tutorials and this one was by far my favorite. Used to do a ton of CAD in college but its been a decade and trying to get back into it

Can you mention why we are creating new bodies rather than join?
Can you advice me where i can gate free Fusion 360 softwer pls am waiting you dear
Thank you
Very nice tutorial, thanks! Looking forward to the next part.
It was a good video, I’ve been using fusion for months, but Im definitely complicating things while I’m doing my models. This was simple and helpful.
thx for the video, great starting point. a few remarks
as a millimeter user I can still type 1,5" and get the awkward length that is 1.5 inches
as I had to repeatedly jump back and forth, chapter marks would have been helpful...
also why not mention the fusion version somewhere easy to find for future watchers ?
things change and videos unfortunately do not autoupdate...
Best first lesson by far on TH-cam!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi, why when I add the wood colour some of the edges don't colour in? Like the wall of the tool chest is now wood but the top of the wall is still grey and it wont let me select appearance when I right click. Thanks
Perfect tutorial for a beginner. By far the best one. Off we go!
The same problem.. Did You found solution?
Ooo I found solution by myself 😂. It was so easy. You need to disselect hide mode for sketch in which was circle . For me it was sketch 1 . It need to be unhide than you can see point for circle from whom you can activate extrude.
@@melitazila3989 Clear as mud!
@@melitazila3989 Thanks! I've waisted at least 2 hours trying to extrude the bloody handle.
Is there a video on working with mesh objects?
Great videos...But I can't follow cuz I don't understand other then meters, like the rest outside USA
th-cam.com/video/KjjUhvmo_xs/w-d-xo.html
@@TheFusionEssentials Thank you for the reply, but that's not what I meant. It's just so complicated to try to keep up with inches and feet; you don't really get a sense of the size. But thanks, otherwise, really good videos.
I'm so happy that you're back!!
Amen!
Thanks for the video. I just downloaded 360. Even though this is my first experience with cad software, it seems very intuitive but your playlist will save me tons of time. Liked and subscribed!
Just like to say thanks for putting your time into creating this learning asset for use newbies as it was very helpful.
So, the "base" of this toolbox is below the plane. Is that gonna be a problem later?
hello sir, which one do you recommend for woodworkers - Sketchup or Fusion 360 ?
How do you zoom and rotate without clicking on the orbit or arrow buttons all the time? This is driving me nuts! Thank you.
great video, helped me get started to design in Fusion 360, so far find a bit easier to use than onshape that i was using before, still trying to find some functions as they located in different menus. but hope it will only get easier for me
Outstanding video. Very clearly explained. I love it. Thanks for sharing.
best tutorial for beginners, subbed mate! Thank you sooo much for this, quick and easy to understand!
Great beginner tutorial! Thank you for making these available!
Great Stuff. Originally the triangle piece of the handle wasn't an extrudable piece but I started again and it all worked. Thanks
i must be having same issue, the bottom square lines are all black, but when i deleted the triangles center line, it made the triangle lines blue... and aft5er making the circle for the dowel, both that circle and the top square/bottom triangle line is red???
That was a great tutorial - followed that perfectly, and finished off my toolbox in Cherry with chrome handle... ready for the next lesson!
Well done. Its rare new users can keep up with the mouse clicks. Only had to rewind and review a few times top job.
I started and got as far as when inches are talked about for the first line, but mine seems setup for mm. Might be helpful to have mentioned how to make sure the design is using inches.
Found it - Document Settings Tree, Document Settings, Units, Change Active Units
That was a good video.
I'm happy you made it.
Something I learnt from this video:
Zoom out
just started mechanical drafting this semester so this is perfect thanks
Helpful, however the first stumble was not showing how to change the default metric measurements to imperial.
Thanks. Coming over from SketchUp Make 2017 lol. Do you have to group all those components prior to exporting as STL or is it clever enough to realize that is the intention?
is fusion 360 still free for personal use ? I can't see an option for that anywhere
Ya,you can log in as a student for personal use for free
hey I learned how to use sketch up from you, I look forward to learning 360
At 17:09 this method is creating that side that's selected to be slightly offset on the side of the front, and there's no way to move it into position, well for a noob like me. Is there a way to move the wall into position again? I'm doing this with mm and not inches
Doing good right up until adding the bar. I can't select the hole and I end up with a roof.
Subscribed! Great instructions. Thanks for taking the time to explain things along the way!
Awesome, thank you!
Hi Justin, can these files be exported and imported to unreal engine 5
