- Today my Temptations Community, I wanted to share with you this footage of the Temptations (4/5) lip-sync performing their #1 hit song "I Can't Get Next To You" live on Music Scene in 1969.
FYI: Paul Williams was not present for this performance due to being very ill from his sickle cell disease, so Otis fills in and lip-syncs all his parts.

I'm an old white lady and I've been rocking with the Temptations for more years than I care to remember😅😅😅😅 I know numbers wise other Motown groups passed them but in my humble opinion no one is better than the Temptations😊😊 they still pass the test of time😊😊😊 blessings from Toronto😊
I am sure people noticed... but if they didn't know... it would have been like Ricky singing Bobby's part in the Count Me Out video and live after Bobby left... but this is neat to see. Never seen this one before. Thanks!
Thank you,friend!
I was wondering where Paul
was during this performance.
Appreciate it!
Well Darn..so that was Otis! I always thought David sang that part Otis sings in the beginning of the song. Thanks for sharing
TTTT ❤
Not Otis. That's Paul's voice.....they lip-synched the performance.
That’s Paul’s part that Otis was singing
David was fired looooong
before they recorded this.
This was the third and Grammy
lineup of Otis,Melvin,Eddie,
Paul(absent because of sickle cell problems), and Dennis,
who replaced David.
Otis doesn't sing anything in this song. Otis speaks most of his parts. Except for a few one liners. He did a song on the album "With A Lot O'Soul named "Don't Send Away"
"I can make the seasons change just by a way of my hand" was Otis part and he sung lead on more songs than just Don't Send me away. He also sung lead on I ain't got nothin, read Between The Lines, for your love, I see my child, darling Stand By Me, dreammaker, the Christmas song, This Guy's in love with you (live), (the Distants) Open your heart, and a few more. He also co lead on this song, psychedelic shack, check yourself (intro), Runaway Child, take a look around, and more.
Otis is doing Pauls Part! If it was live singing Dennis more likely would have been the one singing it!
Isn't there a performance,where eddie is not there,but paul is 🤔
Yep! 1970 on Top Of The Pop and they performed the same song as well but actually sung it live. I uploaded the performance on my channel but I might do a repost of it
Yep.
I believe Dennis,Otis,and Melvin
split Eddie’s parts on that one.
@temptin_temptations Sorry if I'm off on this piece of information. It seems like you were trying to type TOP OF THE POPS, the British pop music show from the 60's. Spellcheck probably misinterpreted what you were typing.❤
Eddie seems so hurt in this performance because paul sickness
I,mean who wouldn't be hurt,especially if that's his best friend😞
I’m sure they all were.
They all cared for each other,
and loved one another like brothers.
Just like I'm pretty sure Otis is
hurt that he no longer has any of
the guys he started with onstage beside him.
True
The Talented Temptations
Were is paul?
