    More great tips Matt - thanks.
    I use a knife from an old cutlery set to get weeds out of the lawn and always dig or hoe those in the border. I think you have such good cultural methods of suppressing weeds you could reduce pesticide use.

    I’ve been watching your videos for a few weeks now and yesterday I got myself outside and did two passes with the scarifier and one with the aerator, before overseeding. I pulled out 3 large wheelie bins of moss and crud. I put some 4 in 1 feed down also. I ran out of seed so I’ve just bought a bag of your hard wearing lawn seed. I’m not sure whether to spread the top soil over the top? And I have some iron sulphate and seaweed, shall I put that down now or wait a few days? I’m worried about burning the little bit of grass that’s left!

    • @GardenLawncareGuy
      @GardenLawncareGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi neil if you have applied 4in1 then you don't need any more iron or anything else it's all I'm there. Also check the label for the time to wait until putting new seed down but I would reccomend to wait a little bit until using the seed if you used 4in1 and definitely do not put more 4in1 or iron on the new seeds as they can damage the new seedlings. Only water.

    thank you so much for all the tips and instructions on how to care for our lawns.
    I recently moved to a new house with a fully neglected garden. After watching TH-cam videos i decided to scarify the garden (not dethatching), removed weeds with a knife, and got seeds 1 for 3 mix from the supermarket. Also got the sandals with the spikes and will do the aeration in the next few days. Weather is going to be raining all next week with temperatures between 13C in the day and 3C at night!
    Is the temperature warm enough to overseed?
    Are all composts the same? Can I use compost for flowers for the lawn? How many liters per sq meter?
    Anything else I should know about as a beginner?
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi Matt, I have a Rolawn Medallion seed for my existing lawn and I will be over seeding in a few weeks. I want a more luxurious mix for over seeding and was wondering what seed you might recommend to use. I could go Rolawn ornamental but do you have an alternative seed option e.g. from your growing containers that will work and blend with my existing medallion lawn? Hi Matt, Can I just ask with your pre-seed fertiliser, is this safe for dogs/kids and should it be watered in after application?

    • @martinjames8836
      @martinjames8836 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry can I also ask, how many weeks in advance of over seeding can I apply this or should it be done at the same time as over seeding?

    • @DodgyD4ve
      @DodgyD4ve 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@martinjames8836 ok so, pre seed fertilizer, despite the name, should be applied at the same time as, or a few days after seeding for best results. A seed has stored energy that it utilizes for initial growth. Only once roots have become established can it benefit from nutrients in the soil. That being said, applying it a few days prior to seeding shouldn't be a huge problem, as nutrients will remain in the soil for a few weeks after application. Starter fertilizer is a better less misleading name for it.

    • @GardenLawncareGuy

      Yes, and I tackle mine early as it will spread very quickly. Even the smallest bit of root can produce a new plant so need to be sharp and quick there.

    water, mow, throw some fertilizer down with your hands and spread some seed. It doesn't need to be this complicated. Save yourself some money, because you don't need expensive fancy gadgets or specialised seasonal fertiliser.
