I believe this was the best moment of CART series. With Mercedes, Honda, Ford and Toyota plus two tire suppliers (Firestone and Goodyear). Four chassis manufacturers (Penske, Swift, Reynard and Lola). Was the season that the category had the best drivers. I particularly liked this series.
@@AlonsoRules compare to the IRL in 1997 where they couldn’t even figure out what lap people were on and it’s pretty obvious that didn’t start to matter until the sponsors started asking for it, and even that didn’t harm CART any until Marlboro found out they could only have their name on Penske’s cars in one or the other. Only then did the balance start to shift. CART in the early years of the split was at its absolute best. Indy would have been nice to have but on a race-to-race, week-to-week basis it wasn’t missed yet.
Seeing this makes me a bit sad. This is what Indycar was, what I fell in love with. I know hindsight is useless, but I can't help but think what could have been if the IRL was never formed.
Such a shame what happened to Alex Zanardi he truly was one of the Best Drivers In The Series. But at the same time he is truly blessed to be Alive today and able to do some type of racing these days.
this is great coverage. good sense of speed, nice ammount of engine sounds, plenty of onboards, not too much telemetry clogging up the view. also the series was really good at this time with multiple chassis, tire and engines. awesome beasts visibly on the edge of control
1:16 So weird looking back now seeing Dario & Carl Hogan embrace like that after capturing P1 considering exactly how their professional relationship ended at the end of the season.....
Back when I had to laugh at my fellow european F1 fans, for not knowing people like Tracey, Vasser, Andretti and these studs. And who were surprised by the speed of guys like Zanardi, Villeneuve and Montoya. :D Even da Matta is known to most of em today. :) CART was awesome and my dad showed me in 1996 one year before my big hero has won it all. :) I was 11 and instandly love Laguna, Road America and was even more hooked by those awesome road course, we dont got many in europe. Today I cant wait for the NTT IndyCar 2023 Game. :D
Speaking of PT, how politically naive he was re: down-talking the Penske chassis, knowing what it was going to cost him at the end of the season as Roger, in an ice-cold move, released him because of it (and bitching about Goodyears) with three years left on his $3.5 million per year deal...yup, that's $10.5 million bucks down the toilet, although he did land at Team Kool Greene in '98 (with a big salary cut to around a million a year.) There was still huge money in CART, far more than even in today's IndyCar, and hard to imagine with what was to come for the series just a few years later.

Sure It could be the second greatest race car series in the world. close to F1 and sure highly better than NASCAR.
Some of the most iconic liveries in motorsport in this field.

Golden years of Indycar
Man how I long for this generation of cars and drivers. Lola, Swift, and Raynard, RIP Greg Moore!
Good lord, I miss these cars and engines. What utter screaming beasts they were.

97 wa the peak of Billy's career. Yes. Blundell was known as Billy, or reasons. Never did figure out a definite answer to that
I’ll be at the Toronto Indy next weekend. I can’t wait!
Great upload. Thanks Indycar.
First career pole by Franchitti, amazing stuff!

Cart was so much better than irl
Awesome! I really want to see the ESPN2 simulcast of the 1995 Molson Indy Vancouver race where only onboard camera feeds were used the entire time.
Good old speedworld!! You knew it was about to go down!!
good race, i love those V8s to 14000 rpm.

Remember these days well!
Michael was a lock at Toronto back then.
29:18 is the start
No way you've watched it came out minutes ago
Don’t need to watch it all the way through to know this is 👍🏾

I think Dario's accent is heavier now than in 1997 🤣
Did you notice that not one person was looking at their phone....
i find this comment funny because of the main sponsor of the winning car
I hope PT still has those sunglasses lmao.
R.I.P GREG
The mid 90's was a very confusing time for fonts. Why did we all think that having random mixtures of uppercase and lowercase letters was cool?

Did anybody die in this race

First Comment! Great race
Why does Danny Sullivan's commentary remind me of Donald Trump?
As bad as Sullivan is in the Commentary Box, he would lose in a "mememe" competition with Trump any day...
Make racing great again
Let’s post boring puff peace previews and old races not give the fans the most access possible.
i don't are about the stuff surrounding the new races ethier but these old ones are awesome
