Good to see that not everything is perfect in every season. I think that it is a good starting point for beginners in the bonsai hobby to continue without losing courage, even if it doesn't look so nice. Nature is nature.

Thank you for the info on the effects of the heat on maples. I have two that really got burned here in Sacramento this summer. I intend to repot in late winter and hope to get new leaf growth for stronger trees next spring. Your info for us is invaluable and reassuring.

Another wonderful video. I have my dishojo maple bonsai that I purchased from Peter sitting patiently in my unseated greenhouse waiting for spring. I’ll be building a collection from Herons over the coming months , along with collecting a few bits and bobs as I walk the dog. I’m brand new to bonsai, and the thing I struggle with the most is where and how to prune ! I’ve had a couple of Portulacaria Afra trees bought for me as gifts, I know that as they are garden centre stock, they’re not the best of specimens, I’d love to know how to shape and prune them to try and improve them. If ever you’re cold over winter Peter , please have a go at a novices video for Portulacaria! 👍🏻🌳

Watching this video made me realise that the climate you live in place such a major role on tree care. My maples have been suffering severely with leaf burn after trying the "grow in full sun" advice provided by most sources, but considering that the average summer temperature is between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius where i stay, when it's not a heatwave, i think i'll be setting up a shade tunnel. Any advice on the percentage of shade for above temperature ranges?

you have a lot of bonsai standing just in the yard. they do not get sick, the leaves do not begin to turn brown or yellow? rust on eating leaves? or do you somehow treat them, spray them with some solution?

let the tree grow out a lot because that adds growth to the trunk and for it too look old i don’t really know i think you just have to wait and get it overtime but it will be worth the wait

Nothing seriously wrong with these trees. Hardly any effect of sun or underwatering. Nobody will believe that this stuff is to do with your care. If uou want to differentiate, best idea is to show full sun vs puned. Especially when you mix all of this content together. Most people looking here are not bonsaists lol! 😆 Ludicrous Peter. Come on! 😂
