    This makes me feel better. I been watching your videos Peter for a while. I started growing my own maple and finally chopped it today. It was about 5 ft tall. But it's trunk was very thin and it needed to be forced to make lowers. So know it's about 18 inches maybe 2 ft.
    Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    I go to local nurseries and occasionally find a large tree I want to bonsai. I've asked the staff for pruners to shorten the trunk so it will fit in my car. You should see the looks on their faces! They've finally got use to me but I still shock new staff from time to time.

    Months to go before the garden centres wake up round here. I am concentrating on gathering soil and pots and wire and tools and etc. I keep being tempted by the presence of ficus, but I really have my heart set on some sort of conifer as my first project.

    • @aaryansetia9093
      @aaryansetia9093 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ficuses are a better choice as a first try. They are easy to grow(cuttings root easily), care and maintain.

    • @bgertsma
      @bgertsma 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think there are conifers that are ok for beginners. I am not the best for advice on what to start with as I jumped ahead and have 2 Japanese White Pines... Among others. But maybe a Japanese Larch could work too

    • @aaryansetia9093
      @aaryansetia9093 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bgertsma Well it depends on which area do you live in. I live in a warm place in India(conifers do grow here) but in the colder parts. For warm places, Ficuses are ideal for beginners. You could work with any tree first and eventually gain experience with more trees.

    • @bgertsma
      @bgertsma 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aaryansetia9093 I can agree with you there, didn't know you were in India. I do have a few ficuses, and I like them fine, just have to take extra care in winter for them

    • @mikeemmons1079
      @mikeemmons1079 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My logic on a conifer, does have a lot to do with the fact that I am in Canada and they are quite plentiful at garden centres in the spring. The other reason is tha I watch a couple of really well thought out videos on junipers and spruce.
      The dilettante in me want them to looks like bonsai asap.
      Good news though! More difficult thought they are , I have 2 Hibiscus that have been just kind of hanging out since last spring. Good healthy plants with lots of potential. I will be starting them this afternoon.
