I understand why you went with Craftsman for your new saw. In the last year I've been converting all my tool sets to the Milwaukee M18 system. I could not be more happy. My circular saw is a dream to use. Thanks for documenting your workshop progress. It's been great watching your journey.
I DREAM of getting to go to Milwaukee!! I was so close to buying their new m12 FUEL sub compact hammer drill / impact set before the saw died on me. My brother is a contractor and loves his Milwaukee tools. Maybe someday... :)
@@Samcraftcom I've heard the M12 is hit or miss with some of the tools, however the M18 is superb. I have quite a few and everyone of them is a dream to use.
Love that you are a father who lets the kiddos help and learn. Lots of fathers out there now days don’t want to slow down to have the father/child time.
Hi Sam. I enjoy watching the progress on the shop but today's video with your sons was absolutely awesome. They have some skills. The shop is coming along great. You have gotten a lot done in a short time. Thanks for the cool content.
I am very happy you enjoyed getting to see them work some! Any time they show an interest in what I'm doing I just eat it up and will stop working just to let them have the time. It's such a rewarding thing for both of us. :)
Teaching your son as you go surely slows the process down but these will be the memories you will both remember for the rest of your lives. It’s the same way I learned working with my dad. I wouldn’t give up my memories for anything even though my father has passed.
You mentioned a valid point that many people have found out too late ...... Tongue and groove osb dimensions include the tongue . It'll leave one using a filler strip at the end ....
I learned that the hard way many years back when building a garden shed for a friend. It was a very unpleasant lesson and ended up with a less than ideal looking floor edge. Thank goodness for overlapping siding! :)
Wow floor looks great! You are such an awesome dad! Your little one was so proud of helping his daddy and pleased you thought he was doing a great job enough to keep going. Serious win there! Can’t wait to see the building! Way to go Sam the man!! ❤❤❤❤
You are so right! I am always so happy when they want to be out there to help me and work. And sometimes I conscript them into working when they're needed. :) Perks of being born into a DIY family! :D
I painted the floor in my woodshop with porch & floor paint. It certainly makes cleaning up sawdust a lot easier. (Epoxy is even better, but also a lot more expensive)
Reminds me when I was a young lady growing up working with my dad every weekend. Your son will learn a lot from you. You are doing yourself a favor and don't even realize it. By teaching him all these things you won't have to come do it for him when gets out on his own.😂 Alittle trick for starting those long screws. Start by tapping them in with a hammer about a quarter of an inch. Then when you start it with your driver they will immediately grab and drive in. I've been doing it for years and really saved a ton of time. You will be surprised how much that speeds your work along. You have done a fine job on your project so far.
My first floor of anything, is 2x8 PT, with double skirts. Pressure treated 3/4” plywood, staggered. And, pressure treated bottom plate. That helps with bugs, water, and strength forever.
You have a boy who likes to make stuff. You're doin better than me in that regard. I love making stuff, my not so much my son. Take those moments in, it's what life is made of.
Great job - looks awesome! As the son of a 4th generation carpenter, I appreciate your attention to level, square and right. This will always result in a high-quality finished product. You're setting a great example for your sons!
He was so proud of himself when he put the entire screw in himself. That was great! It's nice to see a real father teaching their kids real skills. Not easy to find these days. Most just teach them how to sit around playing video games and eating hot pockets.
I love it when either one (or both) of my boys take interest and want to work with me. It's very special to me! I have very fond memories of working alongside my now gone Dad as a kid. He passed away before I got to learn so much from him, but what I did get I have always carried and remembered. :)
Hi Sam & Angela, got here as soon as I could.Seeing the boys helping is just awesome & they get paid.😂 I just loved that! You are such a nice family.❤️👍🏻
Hey Sam- you guys did a great job! The on the job training that you gave your son will be with him forever and the time together is so special! God Bless you all!
Isaac is no dummy, pay the boy Sam 😂😂😂. Good to see them both helping out. Next up sealing that floor. I used exterior stain and weather proofing on ours. Worked great and dries fast. I picked the same color as our red clay to hide the dirt😉
Bro!!! I love the fact you’re letting your kids help you!!! That is amazing!!! I’m self taught in everything and that makes me proud! Thank you for the Information and technical terms for stuff!!!
There's no better way for them to learn. :) They enjoy it and don't realize the lessons they're getting! My dad did the same with me as much as he could and I really cherish those memories. :)
This is where I found your channel sam... building your first workshop back in Carolina...look how far yous have come...I sorta knew the first workshop wouldnt be big enough the boys are wanting to learn more as they grow...😊
I never thought that I'd like a cordless circular saw but found it to be extremely handy. My combo kit saw completely died on me. I too replaced it with the brushless model and absolutely love the brushless one.
I would argue that Advantech is better because of its strength, rigidity, T&G, and will take all the weather you can throw at it. I've had a piece outside leaned up against a tree for three years and it's still hanging there pretty good. But I love the look of plywood better! You made up for the lack of a T&G by using the bridging blocks, a very smart move. The off-brand OSB flooring (non-Advantech) will NOT hold up well in moist environments and will flake off around the edges when it gets bumped. I have only used those types inside for extra strength over a subfloor situation...strong but not as resilient in exposure situations.
Hubby did the same thing with the battery powered tools. He started out with a Ryobi tool of some sort (can't remember since it's been a minute), and from there he just bought Ryobi because the batteries are SO expensive!!
I’ve really enjoyed watching your videos. Today is the first day I’ve seen them and you do such a great job explaining why you’re doing what you’re doing, which is super helpful to me - because I am in the sonotube part of my home build. I, too, am building everything by myself and it’s super helpful to watch someone else’s work as I’m getting ready to go outside and conquer the same things myself. Nice work!
Sam, My kittens are enjoying your videos, hope you aren't feeling the swats they give every now and then. Excellent work. Thanks for sharing the build. Always fun to watch someone else do the work. Your shop will be great. A thought...maybe already on your mind...I had OSB installed for interior walls. Works great when I want to hang something, just put a screw in and not worry if it will hold. Keep up the great work.
Sam….This is looking great! You are just blasting this out! Sooo cool! And lol your boys are like my girls “how much are we getting-Id for this job?” Lol better watch out they are going to want their own. Corner and their own benches in that shop! 😂
The boys have been learning skills so if they want to build something they can. Tell him he is in shop class, and you don't get paid while you are at school 😄
Nice job, Sam. So nice to see your younger son getting involved, too! Do you plan to eventually connect the current shop to the new one? Thanks for sharing the building process!
Look into Advtec subfloor it’s really the best and way better than plywood next building . It can be submerged underwater for a month and never expand.
I have the same set of Craftsman tools. My multi tool died a few weeks ago contacted craftsman warranty sent a picture of my receipt and they sent me a new one.
What about insulation? Maybe different over there but we always insulate the floors here in the UK. Not only keeps it warm in the winter but more importantly cooler in the summer.
Hey, Sam! Loving the build series so far. Just started watching it, so you may have already covered this, but are you planning to have any kind of insulation under the floor? I'm just wondering how much efficiency you would lose with such a big gap above the ground. Looking forward to the rest of the videos. - Joe
Maybe you addressed this in another video, but no insulation under the floor? Or are you going to seal it in around the edges? Nice video, good to see the next generation getting some experience!
Great job...learning every video! How much was spent to get to a finished floor as shown here. Looking at your method or slab? Thanks for all your effort teach others😊.
Great to see you teaching your son, they both will grow up with some amazing skills ! Your floor is awesome!
I always enjoy when they want to spend time with me on any project!
Your youngest son made me smile, what a character never a dull moment☺️

Awesome to see dad's teaching their kids new skills. Come on pay the kid dad lol..
Love that you are a father who lets the kiddos help and learn. Lots of fathers out there now days don’t want to slow down to have the father/child time.
Now looks like a perfect time to paint/seal that floor for easier clean-up in the future!

Your youngest did a nice job helping…and earning money😉

Great to see your young fellow helping. Great to see him so happy for paid work. Looks like he was a great help Sam. 😊
My first floor of anything, is 2x8 PT, with double skirts. Pressure treated 3/4” plywood, staggered. And, pressure treated bottom plate. That helps with bugs, water, and strength forever.
It seems like you are a really good Dad, teaching the next generation some solid work ethic, thanks for that!!!!!
Really happy for you to have a nice space to work in and to teach the boys life skills.. I hope your labor cost do not exceed your budget. LOL
I hope so too! :)
You have a boy who likes to make stuff. You're doin better than me in that regard. I love making stuff, my not so much my son. Take those moments in, it's what life is made of.
Great and sturdy floor Sam. Also great having son helping and learning. He'll remember this time together always!
Absolutely!
The baby of the family is growing up quickly and learning awesome life skills. Nice job! I can't wait to see the progress.
You got that right!
Paint that floor right now, makes life easier
Sam = Master of photography, editing and workshop building!
It’s coming along nicely! I love to see your kids working right along side you.
Thank you!

Thank you, I appreciate your kind words and encouragement to keep putting these boys to work! :) Now I want a hot pocket though...
I love how you include your son in the process. Good bonding and teachable moment for when he has his own home and family of his own.
I love it when either one (or both) of my boys take interest and want to work with me. It's very special to me! I have very fond memories of working alongside my now gone Dad as a kid. He passed away before I got to learn so much from him, but what I did get I have always carried and remembered. :)
Good you are taking the time to teach your son, you are a very patient man and a great teacher, GOD bless you.
Hi Sam & Angela, got here as soon as I could.Seeing the boys helping is just awesome & they get paid.😂 I just loved that! You are such a nice family.❤️👍🏻
Your boys are a big help!! I think they deserve an awesome treehouse next!!
Hey Sam- you guys did a great job! The on the job training that you gave your son will be with him forever and the time together is so special! God Bless you all!
Thank you so much!
that whats exactly what I needed to ear, overlapping thanks!
Good to see both of your boys helping. They are learning so much.
I feel a house build coming on in a few years.
As this build has progressed, my wife has started to ask "so how much different would a house be?" :) That would be an absolutely amazing journey!
Isaac is no dummy, pay the boy Sam 😂😂😂. Good to see them both helping out. Next up sealing that floor. I used exterior stain and weather proofing on ours. Worked great and dries fast. I picked the same color as our red clay to hide the dirt😉

It's awesome to see the boy's wanting to help & you teaching them! Before you know it they will be asking for their own tools! Floor looks awesome!!!

Are you going to connect the two workshops together? Love seeing you teach your sons build. Great Dad!!!

I love how ur introducing ur son into building. True life skills awesome mate 👍👍
Wish I was that nice boy's grandma😊
Super Nice job, love your new helper, you are paying them Big money lol you and your family have a great day 😊
Thank you! You too!
LOL That was cute. Sam good help is hard to come by these days. You best pay the boy.I bet he is worth 15 an hour. 😄
Maybe I can do a barter system LEGO for work... wait.. that's much more costly! LOL
Man your boy is amazing. Hats off to you and him. and your teaching him the diseplin needed in life good job sir❤
Sam….This is looking great! You are just blasting this out! Sooo cool! And lol your boys are like my girls “how much are we getting-Id for this job?” Lol better watch out they are going to want their own. Corner and their own benches in that shop! 😂

My Dad would remind my of the Free housing, food, clothes,etc...but he would slip me a $5!
Good job young man!
Very exciting point to reach!
Nice job, Sam. So nice to see your younger son getting involved, too! Do you plan to eventually connect the current shop to the new one? Thanks for sharing the building process!
That is one big investment an all plywood floor!! Good job!!
I have seen some plywood that's now 1/8 inch smaller than 4x8 all the around, so look out for the different in size.
Look into Advtec subfloor it’s really the best and way better than plywood next building . It can be submerged underwater for a month and never expand.
Wtg boys!
You all did a great job!
✌️💝🙏🇺🇲✡️🙌🤜
Looked like you had a great helper! Nice work,
Like how you let your boys help you.
Looks amazing should be so proud off yourself x
Better keep the kid on the payroll Sam,
Good help is hard to find.
y'all doing a great job.
I'm so jealous Sam, its going to look awesome
Sam your a good Father
Way to go working with your son and the shop is going to be huge excited to see the progress.
I appreciate it! With the floor done it's starting to feel real!
Sam, are going to block the opening under the building so critters can't get under there?
Great deck, your son is awesome.
And I'm gonna get paid I bet...... Lol love it
I have the same set of Craftsman tools. My multi tool died a few weeks ago contacted craftsman warranty sent a picture of my receipt and they sent me a new one.
That is awesome! My brushless oscillating tool died on me a few months back. I should do the same to get a replacement.
Such a cute little helper. Can wait to see it finished ❤
I love my RP saw
You might want to check the brushes on the old saw, they might need replacing.
Looks like you're rolling along super Good Sam, and your work looks spot on.
I was thinking you might use construction adhesive to put the floor down?
Awesome looking floor. His best thought is ill getting paid (Cute) but son you are learning something the right way. and saved dads back. lol
What about insulation? Maybe different over there but we always insulate the floors here in the UK. Not only keeps it warm in the winter but more importantly cooler in the summer.
Great job. I’m wondering why you didn’t run electrical and plumbing before installing the plywood decking.
Center out you will be surprised how much arch is in plywood and it will move
Looks good 👍
Great job guy's,Lookin good!!!
Thanks!
Just a few questions.... 1. why didn't you double rim joist? 2. why didn't you glue beams along with the screws?
Hey, Sam! Loving the build series so far. Just started watching it, so you may have already covered this, but are you planning to have any kind of insulation under the floor? I'm just wondering how much efficiency you would lose with such a big gap above the ground. Looking forward to the rest of the videos. - Joe
That is going to be an AWESOME space!
May the lord bless and protect you and your family and putting the floor on your workshop
Thank you kindly
Maybe you addressed this in another video, but no insulation under the floor? Or are you going to seal it in around the edges? Nice video, good to see the next generation getting some experience!
Sweeeeet!! 👏👏👏👏👏
Sam, are you going to create a dormer from the old shop to the new shop to connect the two together?
Awesome xx
Congratulations Sam, cant wait to see it finished 😊
Thanks! 😊
Great job...learning every video!
How much was spent to get to a finished floor as shown here. Looking at your method or slab?
Thanks for all your effort teach others😊.
