This Chinese singer Laure Shang (Shang Wenjie) is so incredible and unique in China. She majored in French and then became a singer by chance. Her vocal is so influenced by her idol Lara Fabian with whom she was the only female singer that sang Lara's song : J'y crois encore which means I still believe. And then they become good friends. You can search her name + Lara Fabian, and then you can enjoy their wonderful performance😘
I am one of the biggest fans of the original "Answers" by Susan but dear GOD I actually found myself tearing up at "Tell us why, given Life, we are meant to die, helpless in our cries?" - The PASSION in that last note of that line is absolutely incredible! I felt like it was a cry against fate and a shout of defiance. I love both versions so much.
She sings so beautifully. I love an artist who gets wrapped up in the song. a singer who feels just as much emotion as the song lets on that she tears in the eyes. Beautifully sung. Beautifully sung.
Thinking about this is a LIVE CONCERT!!!!! You cannot compare a recorded version and a live together by two different artists. That's unfair. They are both great.
Every time I watch/hear this, I cry, overcome by emotion. There's just something so real, raw, and pure, with the way in which this masterpiece is performed, that I cannot hold back the tears. Simply beautiful.
i didn't even play 1.0 and imagine being one of those players who stuck with the game and hearing this song along with that trailer after their world is destroyed. i wasn't even there and this has to be the best mmo closing event of all time and one of the best game trailers i've ever seen.
Actually, this woman's range is far more amazing than Susan's. Of course since English is not her first language, pronunciation is not perfect. It's a shame that people tend to automatically cross off any version except the original, to the point of saying that their ears are bleeding after listening to this. Incredibly rude to the singer, but of course someone of her caliber would never listen to the comments of people that clearly don't know what they're talking about and just hate for the sake of hating.
i didnt like that version because she uses too much vibrato. Susan's voice is also more high pitched, and she sounds WAY more than Hydaelyn. The chinese sibger is great for sure, but Susan has more technique eyes closed
Well it's actually not a question of range, it's always about how the notes are produced by the singer. This lady has a higher tessitura, so her higher notes sound more natural and effortless.
This singer has a better technique because she mixes her voice and that’s why her high notes are much much better. She is actually not a full soprano singer her voice sits in a mezzo soprano’s range. Susan has a true soprano’s tessitura but she doesn’t know anything about mixing chest and head voice. Her chest range is solid but head is very very weak.
You have just heard a beautiful Chinese woman sing a fantastic song composed by a Japanese in English. Remarkable. Curious. Unimaginable. Normal. Work. Work. Work together.
It's an Asian style vibrato. The traditional Japanese also having this heavily vocal cord wobbling. So bear with it as she may having background on training to represent that traditional style and make she very skillful to take on another cover of this song. About the song itself. Though it use the emotional powerful western orchestra style, The lyrics telling very core concept of Buddhism about everyone will facing death and ways to finding answer about how we should lived before we die. This song is a nice combination of culture mix, Composer may thinking about this because it's a song about Hydelyn aka. the mother earth. And that's also why somehow this singer represent another different intense feeling compare to Susan.
Is that why she keeps losing the tempo and going off-key though? :p. Also, if the case is just style, they should have picked someone who could sing it as intended, so it doesn't clash so terribly :X

I actually adore this version with the vibrato. Her voice is beautiful, she is giving this performance her all. I find the other versions artificial and produced in comparison.
Hauntingly beautiful. Love Susan's version ofc as it's the original and who doesn't love the original, but this is also lovely, shame about the vibrato but her voice is fantastic and having to sing in English can't be easy. Credit where credits due, she did a fab job.
Maybe in this song she is not as good as Susan as you think , but if you listen to her other songs you will she is an absolutely good singer who has a beautiful voice~

Aside from the mistakes, I quite like this version. It feels sort of ethereal to me, where as Susan's version is more earthy imo. I quite like them both tbh.
Initially where the round began, expectations waned. Whether it was intentional or not, Laure Shang not only saved it but became the answer (I was hoping for).
i feel that for the first 3 minutes her singing was on par if not better than Susan Calloway for some reason her voice feels like a better fit for those lyrics but thereafter it goes down because the lyrics after require a much more intense and powerful voice like what Susan has and also the accuracy of her speech is not as sharp as before
She has a heavenly voice that I actually prefer over Susan's... They're both good, but I just like her voice better. (though, the constant use of vibrato kinda makes it lose its charm after a while...) However, the choir ensemble is a bit less coordinated than on Susan's live performance and that has a huge effect to the entire performance.
Absolutely breathtaking. I'm not a fan of her vibrato, but her technique, power, and dynamics blow Susan Calloway out of the water. Don't even get me started on the other TH-cam covers, which are absolute garbage on their alone, let alone compared to this one. Beautifully done.
My. Ears. Are. Bleeding. I absolutely cannot enjoy this rendition. The constant vibrato, the lack of emotion, ugh. If I take the moment the song begins its stronger half (4:05 in this video and 3:35 in the Distant World Susan Calloway performance video) it's night and day. Better rendition than Susan's. Not talking about their singing skills, I just prefer a strong mixed voice at the end for those high notes, which Susan does in falsetto losing power right on the parts that should be the climax of the song
This would be my favorite performance of Answers if the choir was just as powerful and moving as the original (the beginning is rather weak in my opinion, but they do mucb better later in the performance). Shang Wenjie does amazing and carries Answers with beautiful emotion.
She's really well animated and is able to put a lot of emotion-especially towards the ending-in this performance. I wonder who built her. I also like the vibrato, and Calloway's version. But damn I didn't know I have a thing for robot-like women, I need to explore this further...
I like her singing but she seems a bit..one toned with certain areas, I prefer Susan more for this song, With Susan it feels like theres more feelings in it.
Stephenie Bowen I'd like to think you're being genuine, but I can't hep but think you, and a lot of people like you, just like Susan's more because she's a Westerner like you and speaks English like you, and therefore you think it's better. EccentricMadamViolet She could be an Asian or Russian, I like hers cause to me hers sounds better. Anyways its all about opinions, just cause others like them all or this one better than the other doesn't mean they are not genuine thoughts and opinions. I like hers better then this one, end of story. Now don't say its cause shes westerner, I grew up listening to Japanese music more than American music, in fact I am now listening to Danish music more than American music as well. I certainly wouldn't say cause the word westerner unless you know what that person actually listens too which you didn't but now you do, I barely listen to american music. To me it feels like the whole westerner thing is just your excuse cause I am westerner and so is she, so to you that must be the reason which I call bs on. And to me this singer doesn't sound as into it as Susan, thats what I mean by soul, for susan theres more tone change which to me feels shes more into it then this person, and yes I respect this singer, she is just not my favorite. This one sounds a bit bland to me.

fr, I still cry whenever I watched that cutscene.

Who cares who is "better", they are both amazing and give us the chance to get drawn into this magical world.
It's less not pleasing them and more that, technically speaking, she's just not all that good..
It's pretty darn good. Also BArrett, that doesn't help shit lol. Why is she not good? Anyone can say someone's not good easily. Gotta say why.
Well, for starters, she keeps losing both the tempo and the key.. how is that not obvious?
Barrett Johnson Maybe its your head buds or speakers. She sounds great on my end.

This might not sound 'normal' to some listeners, but this is done in a semi chinese operatic style and its very, very intriguing and beautiful
Her voice is so magical. I came here after watching her rendition of La Vaguellette and was not disappointed
Laure Shang's Answers has a lot of depth and dynamics. Absolutely love her use of librato in this song! A heavenly performance!

Very powerful singing, she did a great job with the lyrics and vocals making them her own with the language barrier especially.

she sang with her heart ♥

my favorite version personally, an angelic voice :)

And to me this singer doesn't sound as into it as Susan, thats what I mean by soul, for susan theres more tone change which to me feels shes more into it then this person, and yes I respect this singer, she is just not my favorite. This one sounds a bit bland to me.
