My successful Parathyroidectomy

  • I had a Parathyroidectomy and it was very successful. They made an incision about 3 centimeters wide. The Parathyroid Adenoma was right there where the scan showed it would be. They went in and took it out. My voice is strong. My PTH Parathyroid Hormone Levels are back down to 23 where a I believe they were up to 125 which was very high. Everything is good. Its been two days since the surgery. No crazy side affects just getting back into the swing of things. I do have an occasional vibrating around the lips which is a symptom of hypocalcemia . Its not so bad where its a major problem. I’m taking some calcium supplements for that. Its not a major issue where its becoming numb. I do have three functioning Parathyroids to keep my calcium and PTH levels where there suppose to be.
    It was quite an experience having surgery for the first time. I remember walking to the operating room, and then lying on the table. I was cold and they brought me a blanket. They put these things around my lower legs that pulsate and help keep good circulation. The anesthesiologist then tells me he’s going to give me something to relax me. Its going to feel like I had a few drinks. Once that kicked in the ceiling started spinning a bit but it felt good. It was relaxing. He then say’s “Here comes the good stuff.” Thats the last thing I remembered.
    I remember waking up in a fog. The first thing I did was test my voice. I was so concerned with losing my voice with this surgery being so close to my vocal chords. I immediately went into singing some scales. Me me me me me me me. Just the fact that I had some semblance of voice I was so happy. I was still not even conscience yet. Everything was foggy and I could slightly see nurses walking around. I was pointing at them saying that there beautiful, and that I loved them, and that life is so beautiful. I heard one of the nurses say “Yes it is.” It took about a half hour for the anesthesia to wear off. I started to get up and get ready to leave. My mind was fully aware but my body didn’t want to go. I was very slow.
    So far everything is good. I have to leave my bandage on for about a week or so. The doctor will take it off and then I’ll be able to put some cream on it that will help minimize the scarring. I’m very happy that they were able to get rid of the adenoma. My voice is strong. Its only been a few days since the surgery but I feel myself gaining strength by the day. I’m relaxing, watching movies. I just wanted to give you a heads up on how I am. All is good. I’ll be out there rocking in about a week. I’m really looking forward to getting back to full strength again.

      Don't worry about a thing. Mine was a total success. I'm hoping that your's is too. In my case it was important to choose the right surgeon because I'm a singer and they operate close to the nerve. It's a fairly routine procedure. Almost a year later and so far so good. If you have any questions I'll be happy to help.

    So wonderful so hear your surgery went well. I too am a singer and I'm scheduled to have this soon. I'm very scared of the vocal part. My surgeon is a specialist and does these surgeries all the time. I'm sure the first thing I'll do on awakening is sing the scales as well!! Please pray for me!!! Thanks

    • @JerryCherryBand
      @JerryCherryBand  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for the great comment. I'll be praying for you. I'm also sure that you'll be fine and it will be successful. I don't remember if I mentioned this in the video but requesting a smaller baby type air tube could be better for less possibility to damage a nerve. These tubes also have sensors that are helpful to locate where a nerve is. No worries.

      I had 90% of my parathyroid glands removed because they found numerous adenoma affecting my glands. I’m a singer too and was terrified at the thought of damage to my voice, but the surgery went very well and my voice is just fine. I’ve had dental work that was more painful! This was really a piece of cake. I doubt you’ll have any problem at all with the surgery! 👍🏾

      Thank you Alejandro. I really didn't have any symptoms that I knew of beforehand. It's possible that my urine smelled different because of the higher calcium that was in my blood. That seemed to go away after the surgery. I hope that all's well for you and much success if you're going through this.

    when did your symptoms pre operation cease? how are you feeling now? is it a case of waking up and fog is gone ?

    • @JerryCherryBand
      @JerryCherryBand  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I never had any symptoms. My blood test showed high calcium and PTH levels. I'm feeling good now. My PTH levels have been going back up a little but my calcium levels are normal so I need to just keep an eye on that. I do a blood test every 4 months. If you mean fog from the surgery it takes a little while after you wake up before you're mentally there. Pretty fun, dreamy feeling actually. Hope that helped. Thanx for asking.

I'm a 36 year old Male which apparently is rare in this position. Was just wondering effects after ect...

    Im 23 years old and i quit vaping a week ago after i got my blood test reading. My last reading was 10.7 blood calcium and i heard normal is 10.3. Im thinking i may have a hyperactive thyroid. Im very scared of surgery as I’ve never had it so i want to ask: Is the surgery the initial and only treatment for hyperthyroidism or is there other less invasive treatments that happen before surgery?

    • @JerryCherryBand
      @JerryCherryBand  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi. Thank you for the comment. I had a high calcium level of 11.2 They call it Hypercalcemia. It has nothing to do with your thyroid. It has to do with you parathyroid. That's different. You naturally have 4 parathyroids located on you thyroid. They control the amount of calcium in your blood. If you have a bad parathyroid they can remove it. You only need half of one in total. This is my story. If you have a similar situation let the doctors tell you that. The Endocrinology doc is best for that. They'll do a test and give you the correct info and suggest what to do. If you need the surgery don't sweat it. It's routine. I'm a singer so I was concerned. Over a year later and I've been fine "Knock On Wood."
