  • Interesting Re-Operative Parathyroid Case of the Week with Dr. Mitchell
Today's patient is a 67-year-old woman from Tennessee. She underwent three extensive operations for her parathyroid disease, but unfortunately no parathyroid glands were identified during any of these surgeries due to her surgeon's lack of experience. Luckily, she found our center a few years ago and Dr. Norman was able to identify and remove her parathyroid adenoma. Her symptoms resolved and she was feeling great!
In an incredible stroke of bad luck, this patient was part of the extremely small percentage that have a recurrence. This means they develop another parathyroid tumor on a different parathyroid gland. She came back to our center and Dr. Mitchell was able to successfully remove the second parathyroid adenoma.
Check out the full video to learn more details about this patient's case, why her initial surgeries were not successful, see her imaging before surgery, and hear how she is doing now.
This case underscores the importance of selecting an experienced, high-volume parathyroid surgeon the first time. Her first three operations could have been avoided if she had found us sooner.
