My expectations for night shooting with one of these is 200 yards and in. If it can do that with the focusing lens easy, which it looks like it can, I'll be plenty happy with it as a really cost effective setup.
@@4MRRanch oh yeah I meant as in their own custom version from rovyvon. They took out the visible flashlight to give the IR LED its own reflector. But it's still not particularly focused at all.
I'd like to see them offer a standalone upgraded head, with focusing abilities build right in. Turn this thing into a modular ecosystem. Kinda the perfect product for that.
For mixed indoor / outdoor work I think the GL4 Pro has the best balance of useability overall, and this device would extend the range nicely making it even better. I will definitely pick one up.
Would you go with the gl4 pro for a 5.56 sbr setup (with focusing lens) or a somo peq15 for a budget laser? I hear a lot of ppl say the gl4 is great for pcc or pistol but not a lot of info on 556 setup. I can't tell if that's bc it won't hold zero with recoil/durability or if it's just bc the flooding makes it unusable without the Focusing lens. I associate your videos!
@@33sosa85 Thank you for your note. The issue with your specific GL4 was forwarded to Rovyvon and as we mentioned on Wednesday we are waiting for a reply from them to review and authorize a replacement device for you. Thank you for your continued patience and we hope to get a reply and resolution asap.
@@33sosa85 We're sorry you're disappointed in our level of diligence and customer service. When we first started selling the GL4, as it was a new product, we did check them prior to shipping and all were good. As sales volumes ramped up and spot checks yielded good results we made the decision to instead rely on Rovyvon's QC which, to-date, was quite good. It's also impossible to verify fitment on a variety of rail systems and platforms. You received your device on October 9, 2024, (Wednesday); we have just shipped a replacement device on October 14, 2024 (Monday) and emailed you tracking information. Hope that helps. Best, CHS
Thanks for the video. I've pre-ordered and it should be here this week. Question? Will a Surefire RSR-SR07 switch disable the onboard paddle tail switches? Currently they can be accidentally bumped making light disciple difficult. Thanks
It inserts within the unit, opposite of the opening (in between the end of the RovyVon and the back side of the focusing assembly) It’s just a way to create a slightly larger stand off distance from the emitter and the focuser
Doesn’t seem to be due to the Rovy have a combined reflector system and the focused having an opening for the white light. You could tape the white light port shut I suppose and it would probably reduce spill. But it’s enough spill reduction that my tubes aren’t auto gating. Personally I don’t mind a little spike for better situational awareness. Personal preference.
Are you going to get a Patreon or subscribe star account? I'd throw a couple bucks at you each month. Your content is well worth it to me. Thanks for putting this out. I got my focusing thing last week but haven't had a chance to play with it yet.
I do have a patreon! I have a link in the description of my videos. Currently getting $6 a month. It’s better than nothing, but I guess most people arent aware it exists. I’ll have to try to mention it more often. I appreciate your support, my videos take me around 8-30 hours each to produce, depending on the subject. And TH-cam doesn’t pay like it used to. So any help is very appreciated!
@4MRRanch - subscribed - says starting 11/1. Now you'll have $11, lol. Yes, you should promote it more. I watch all your videos and didn't know. Anyhow, thanks for what you're doing. Really helpful and enjoyable content.
Code “RANCH” will save you 5% off on the focusing lens over at Cold Harbour Supply.
Thanks for watching.

Yep, hard to beat the Rovy for this price range. This focusing lens made it that much better
The splash back into your nods is a real problem. I bought the focuser hoping to mitigate the problem.
At $127.00 USD for a piece of 3d printer plastic that is rough
If defence distributors decide to release a focusing lens for their own IR illuminator only GL4 that would be pretty dang awesome
Could be wrong, but not sure they actually manufacture

I read some comment that a guy put a Malkoff head on his?sounds like a win if the threads are compatible.

I’d trust the gl4 over the somo.
Huge thanks for this video man!
Always happy to make these

Great video! Appreciate all the info
Glad you enjoyed
Great content, just found your channel. Hope to see more of it as this is a super niche subject.
Yeah I’ve gone in heavy on NV, but thermal content is coming too

As far as I’m aware the surefire XVL2 switch is the only one compatible
Does it make it harder to see the laser at distance when using the focusing lense on the base model GL4 Pro?
What direction did you place the open part of the shim? Near the opening in the cap or …?

they need to make a version that is not QD!
Agreed
wish that VWS would make a diffuser for the m6tr
Would be badass.
That patterning is unfortunate - probably going to keep going for a Laserspeed compared to putting more money into GL4 Pro.
It’s not ideal, but usable
@@4MRRanch could the spillage possibly be addressed with tape? Shrinking the ocular area or reflector on the actual unit?
Ya got one and it works well
Glad to hear it
Gonna grab one. Cant stand the massive spill. Autogating flicker is horrendous on my cheap tubes lol.
This should help
Is there a way to get rid of the outer spill? Like the outer parts of the illuminator that’s not the center square?

@@4MRRanch Roger thanks for the reply! Looks like I’ll be getting one
I rather keep the flood tbh
