whenever i see enemy agents i always know they will succeed against all odds, whereas my level 6 agents will die to them. one time mori lvl2 monk went on a ninja killing spree getting rid of four lvl 6 ninjas and one lvl4, then that asshole went "my job here is done" and died of old age!
There is a cheeky way to conquer settlements without a shot fired. Go incite a revolt with your monk, apprehend enemy agents with metsuke if they are present (they will come, don't worry), and once the rebels took over the castle, bribe the town with a metsuke. Keep ninjas for intercepting enemy armies to prevent them from reconquering the town. Your army doesn't even need to be present, 2 man (a monk and a metsuke) can take a whole province.
I like to send monks behind enemy lines while also fighting on a front with my armny and provoke rebellions. A few riot instigators can ruin a powerful empire while runing behind the enemy lines. Can be used also together with ninjas for better effect as they can sabotage buildings or protect your monks from enemy agents
I mostly use monks to provoke a province to rebel. that way, you can attack a province without declaring war on anybody. The rebel province can also be used as a buffer province too sometimes. When i play as the hattori, i usually use the monks to provoke the province in eastern border. Here the province that i provoke : Mino,Owari,Mikawa,Kaga,Echizen( and it better if it get further like ,South Shinano, Noto, Etchu, Hida and Totomi) That way, i can put my expedition to the west front without worrying the east front too much. And when Realm divide happen, i have enough time to muster my army cause the clan from the east gonna have to go through the rebels province first, or their army can get drowned along with their navy when their navy fighting againts mine. TL;DR : you can use monks to get Province "peacefully" or decrease the war fronts.
unless you're playing ikko ikki, in that case enemies know you did it (because town goes to you) although the hate isn't as strong. sometimes you DON'T want to cause a rebellion and it still happens because you have a bordering monk or temple
Inciting revolts is so fun. When I first discovered you could do this, I took my max rank monk and sent him out into the world to wreak havoc. I incited rebellions in every undefended province, then I'd swoop in with my main army and put down the rebellion, conveniently restoring order and claiming the province as my own without the need to war with the AI.
In my last Legendary Date campaign, I got the worst possible timeline where the Otomo conquered Kyushu and every other clan except for the Takeda (notably the Chosokabe, Kikkawa and Bessho) all converted to Christianity and began sending Metsuke spam to ruin my day. My monks really carried that campaign.
As the shimazu, the first thing I did after conquering the ito is to build a monastery. My neighbours turn very quickly to christianity, so I had to counter that. Then, he became level 2, and was ready to demoralize armies
You don't even need to declare war on neighbours anymore. Just instigate revolts and fight rebels instead, good agents almost never fail to instigate one..
Yeah, but the problem is generally that neighbours have armies in their settlements, which kinda makes it impossible to have the rebel army win. But for undefended or slightly defended provinces, it's definitely doable!
You need 3 levels of pilgrim for movement boost when put into your army, for a maximum of 3 agents per army. Only ninja and monk agents have the ability to increase army movement speed on top of general (strategist) and roads, so you should have movement boosts on all your ninja and monk agents to be able to swap out one for the other if needed. Aside from movement boost, metsuke (if you use them) typically keeps town happy enough, so monk should be secondarily focused on character conversion , as enemy agents are very strong on legendary (only monks can convert agents for free, ninja cost money and metsuke lose out on bonus income when ending turn outside town). If you don't use metsuke (as they are way too OP for the tax rate boost), then monks should also focus on inspiring towns.
I personally don't use agents in an army, I find it more valuable to have them in other places most of the time. And I mainly use monks to take out enemy metsukes and to help with public order in new provinces, where my metsukes will never be :P
Ah, so there's a monk-metsuke-ninja mechanic in place, explains why an unarmed monk can kill 3 of my armed metsuke. Wait, no, it doesn't, I want my metsuke back...
In my eyes Monks are great at metsuke killing, rebellion spam to create 1. Buffers for your borders 2. Destabilise your enemy 3. Maybe some province sniping without declaring war and I think the monk is useful if you wanna rush down an enemy without having to stay super long in the province to have the monk keep the population happy. And ofcourse one monk in the nanban trade port to keep those bastards Buddhist!
One time I caused a revolt against the ikko ikki in echigo as the oda and it spawned an almost full stack Buddhist rebel army that I was afraid to fight haha. I've never seen that happen before.
Monks are very versatile yeah, but I don't find them to be as essential as metsuke's or ninja's. I still use them a lot, but I prioritize getting good ninja's and metsuke's.
Always Pilgrim Hostel. That increases monk rank and morale for all units. The Hermitage only helps with increasing experience bonus for warrior monks, but you want to recruit them in a province with blacksmith or craftswork anyway.

Haha, at least you got a good story out of it :P
Started playing Shogun 2 again, so glad I found your channel and that you're back at uploading videos.
It's still a great game after 10 years. Happy to help! :)
Him and TripleZHacker seem to be the only active Shogun 2 channels, and they're great!
Iko-ikki incite revolts can also give you provinces, without having to war for them.

this is how I play lol
imagine when the guide script becomes too long that the Viking General has to speak like the radio ads disclaimers to fit in his 2mins mark
Well, I try to avoid that now :P

@@corpDemon_real oh yeah, Ikko ikki monks were special case. Thanks for reminding me.
Although I sometimes find it hard to find undefended settlements around my borders, but otherwise creating a lot of rebel provinces is always useful.

Ouch, that is very unfortunate. Yeah, in that case, your monks are the saving grace.
It's really fun to play as ikko ikki and use their monks to create an empire
1:34 yea, for missionaries conversion is the most valuable stat

Can you stack the demoralize action? Give the enemy like 1 morale or something?
Pretty sure the inspire army action is stackable.
My first instinct would be that it's impossible, but I've never really tried it. Definitely worth testing.
I particularly enjoy an Ikko Ikki revolt only campaign
great work keep on going ! :)
Thank you! :)

How do you compare yari, samurai and bow hero?
Will you do fall of the samurai agents?
Perhaps, I'm not that confident in my FotS capabilities yet.
@@TheVikingGeneral ah okay. I thanks for the response!
Lovely mate.
Thanks for the visit!
Okay but Pilgrim Hostel vs Mountain Hermitage?
Always Pilgrim Hostel. That increases monk rank and morale for all units. The Hermitage only helps with increasing experience bonus for warrior monks, but you want to recruit them in a province with blacksmith or craftswork anyway.
anyone here use monk to make the entire map rebel before going realm divide
Hm Monk, one with everything I am
Pretty much a jack of all trades. ;)
