    You are definitely not an idiot and know how to use this camera to maximise it's capability. Personally I really like the R8. Especially for the lack of IBIS and it's image quality. It never overheats (because of the way I shoot and because I live in Russia) and I don't really care about 1 card slot and small battery.

    I did a shoot for 3 hours shooting indoors 3-5min reel clips at 4k/60 on the same gimbal setup. I did show higher temperature but pulled it off still.
    For long form video, fall back on 4k24/30 or FHD.
    4k/60 is really pro level feature and there's not many photo cameras that can shoot it that all day. (R5C, lumix S5ii).

    The R8 looks like a camera that gives nice image quality, the only thing I noticed in a bunch of videos and reviews is that the autofocus (in video) is not so reliable. That's a deal breaker for me, as autofocus is very important to me and I can't always do manual focus (especially when working with a gimbal).

    • @MichaelJohnsonProductions
      @MichaelJohnsonProductions  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The digital stabilization is pretty good. I like it more than the ibis. But that’s because I use a gimbal most of the time. When I had the canon r I used the RF to EF adapter and it worked great with the camera. No limitations from what I seen. So I assume it works just as good with this camera. I haven’t tried it though because I went out and purchased all rf glass.

    The R8 is a NOT a prosumer camera. This is for beginners who want to get into full frame photography, hobbyists. Should never be compared to professional cameras. Yet it does have some professionals features from the R3 and basically very similar to the R6 mk2. except it the R8 does not have IBIS or the shutter capabilities of the R6 mk2.. In some ways it's better to have IS on the lens. IBIS is not what it's cracked up to be. Other than that this video has some great tips in using it as B roll camera.

    @erklaervideo-agentur-operi 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Nice video. But it confirms, that the R8 is one of the worst cameras you can buy. As a professional you can rig it up. But the main goal for the R8 was, do give "us" a portable lightweight and small full frame camera. But you can't use it as a point and shoot camera with no IBIS and poor battery life. Let's take the Fuji X-S20. Has IBIS, has great battery life, I would say the same picture quality, is small and lightweight AND is even cheaper. Ah and has a better FLOG, the R8 doesn't even have the CLOG2. So I don't know who should buy that camera. If you need a studio camera for B-roll, then buy a used Lumix S5.

    • @MichaelJohnsonProductions
      @MichaelJohnsonProductions  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I don't know about the worst camera. But it is pretty bad. It is useable and shoots great footage but that overheating problem is a bad one. Most professional's that shoot video don't want IBIS. IBIS is honestly terrible for video. But I appreciate your comment you have a lot of valid points.

    • @jcloiseau
      @jcloiseau 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      The main goal of the R8 is to be the cheapest Canon entry level full frame camera OR a lighter backup for r5 or r6ii. So let's start here: if you have your expectations wrong, you will be disappointed. I shot over 4k pics with R8 since may and never overheated even once. It's ergonomic are FAR FAR FAR superior to that of xs20 and most importantly it is a full frame not a aps-c. So a) you got your expectations mixed up, and b) you're comparing it to something that's not in the same category. But since you LOVE comparing it so much... R8 is 460g with battery and xs20 with its smaller sensor is 491g....
      Also while we're at it, there is an ancient technology you might have heard of that's called a pocket. And in a pocket you can put what is commonly known as a second battery. I have 2 lp17 and the overall weight of all that is lower than r6ii or the xs20 and thus can shoot longer... Ibis is shit for video and ois in rf lenses is excellent. The fuji includes ibis because it needs to compensate for fuji customers love for their vintage old ass hipster lenses that don't have ois

    • @erklaervideo-agentur-operi
      @erklaervideo-agentur-operi 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jcloiseau Ok, I see you are a troll that's why you try to insult all the Fujifilm users and me because I got my expactations wrong. I am not in the head of canon. But I think if you bring out a camera which is so small and lightweight, that your target audience are people who just want to have a daily companion which they can just pull out of their "pocket" and shoot. But for the R8 you need more or bigger pockets, for the OSS lens and the extra batteries. And sensor size doesn't make the pictures/videos better ;)

    • @jcloiseau
      @jcloiseau 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@erklaervideo-agentur-operi being a troll is not pointing out that you have wrong expectations and that you compare systems that are on a different architecture and if you are too sensitive to take a cheeky jab a fuji users maybe you should revise your presence on the internet. You did not address any of the argument I made as to why your criticisms of the r8 are a little idiotic. You're not in the head of Canon alright, but you have the ability to read. Canon released that camera with quite a bit of press on who they considered it was good for. If you criticize a family van for not being able to do desert 4x4 off off road, that's not the manufacturer's problem. It is yours. Most reviewers got it right at first including here in this video: this is a b roll back up for a pro, or a lightweight second cam for a pro when they are on holidays and they want a lighter setup, or a beginner full frame. If you can't understand that there are tangible differences between sensor formats, that just tells me you don't have extended experience with both. I used a lot of nikon and Canon and Olympus both aps-c and FF and there are differences. Some are even highlighted in this very video. If you seek a small pocket camera get a sony a6700 and Def get a aps-c, all manufacturers make great ones nowadays. Also keep in mind that TH-cam reviewers are VIDEOGRAPHERS first and Photographers second, that plays a heck lot on the balance including that of the present video. Bottom line: you are wrong saying it's one of the "worst" camera, it is a very good one and there are very few systems at that price point that can compete with the features it offers. The z5 is the only one that comes to mind.

      Not a "Pro" by definition, but I have been shooting for about 5 years now. Started with Nikon, then Olympus, Sony, Canon. I shoot a ton of family events both video and stills. Along with my kids events. I also live in Las Vegas NV. With that said, my Sony 6400 was my go to Cam for the longest time. For its portability, and the quality I would get from it. However, in Las Vegas it would overheat all the time. There are tricks you can do to mitigate this. But it still happened. I have used the R8 in similar conditions filming and taking pics and never, not once, have I even gotten the temperature warning to turn on. I was even questioning the reviewers unit, I have heard of people getting bad units, and then just replacing them and never having a temp issue again. To me, family moments of my little children are even more precious than "client work". I will never get these moments back again. I wont just get "fired" and lose money or a client", I could lose a once in a lifetime shot. The R8 has NOT let me down in any capacity. Where is my sony has due to overheating. So I guess take that feedback for what its worth. Its effectively my primary cam that I grab and go and pretty much shoot everything with. Whenever I leave my house it goes with me.
