Last May I traded my 2WD Ram Laramie in on a lightly used 2022 Power Wagon that the previous owner had spent a butt-load of money on upgrades, then decided he wanted a diesel. His loss was my gain since I had the receipts for the $30,000 he had spent on suspension, tires and rims, lights, air bags in the rear, throttle response controller Spod, onboard air compressor etc. etc. etc.! I just got back from an offroad trip to New Mexico and like Jason says, "WHAT A BEAST!". I've owned at least a dozen 4X4s over the years from Jeeps to F350's and everything in between, even a 1962 Power Wagon but hands down the new Power Wagon is THE most capable full size off-road vehicle made today.
I bought one 2 years ago and it has not had a problem except for a bad battery in the first 200 miles. I have built it out for overlanding and it is just a very solid truck. It does everything asked of it which is more than I ask of my other trucks. People who own them for what they are never get rid of them. The ones who sell them only buy them for status on the boulevard and never find out what they can really do. Sway bar disconnect in conjunction with the articulink arms give it a ramp index articulation score way above any other pickup.
The Pwag as we call it locally, is the friggen bomb on our local back country elk hunts, the Ram boxes ARE MANDITORY equipment. However do yourself a favor, buy a lease back, 99.5% of the time the frame hasnt got a spec of mud on it, they rarely leave the city limits, their owners, who I have talked to many times actually have no clue how many of the features on their truck even work. A lease back is still under full warranty and the price of the truck drops big time. I let someone else take the hit, then snap them up. Wicked truck, great memories!.
I have a 2024 PW with Level Two. I have taken it to the top of Lead Queen Mountain in BC. Hauled a covered trailer with four GoldWings with ease. Gas mileage as good as 20 mpg but regular running around is about 15-16 mpg. I love this truck! I installed power running boards and 35s. It’s absolutely a great truck.
I took my sister to the jeep/ ram dealership yesterday to get her vehicle serviced & I saw the power wagon next to a rebel 2500 both were awesome as far as the Cummins there is a simple fix Gale banks shows it on a video he unintentionally found a solution
Definitely on my bucket list to own since the first one rolled out in 05 but could never afford. There’s a reason why a lot of US forest service uses these trucks.. perfect bug out vehicle
The Power Wagon is the last real truck on the market. Solid front and rear axle, powerful reliable American V8, no bs turbos or cylinder deactivation. If I were to buy a brand new truck, the Power Wagon would be it.
I love the Power Wagon! They come with lockers front and rear, sway bar disconnect and 4.10 gears and it's a 2500 but they don't tow as well as a regular 2500. They still tow well though. As for the 6.4 Hemi I thought it was a very well built, strong motor and I believe it has more iron material in the block making it more rigid and piston cooling jets! All good things I look for in an engine. If mpg isn't top on one's list I think it's a excellent truck!
I definitely see why if you don't get another jeep your considering a power wagon the pics don't do it justice once you walk up on it it's like wow it really is a beast amongst beast
I had test driven one in 1977 318 cu with my Dad. He bought a chevy 350 cu. I fell in love with it. Finally bought my dream truck a black 2015 AEV Prospector Power Wagon. I use it to tow my 9,500lbs toy hauler loaded with 3 450 quads off road in deep beach and dune sand. With true 4x4 i go where no one else does with my RV. Before jeep, before willys, Dodge 4x4 since 1934. Power Wagon in 41 first HD 4x4 to the public in 46. Ford 4x4 in 59 GM 60 Chrysler was the biggest supplier for full sized truck 4x4's transfer cases and manual trans with New Process Gear. Yes even Ford GM had New Process Gear ⚙️ in their trucks. 37,000 trouble free miles.
I have been a Ford guy all my life, but quality issues have caused me to look elsewhere. I had a couple of Ram 2500’s for my business, and they were very good trucks, but when they began putting the ZF 8 transmissions in them, it was game over. There is nothing on the market that can compete with the 6.4 Hemi and the ZF 8 transmission power train. These trucks get run hard, they constantly tow heavy loads ( quite often overloaded ), and there has been absolutely no issues.
I've been researching various trucks for the past year for off road and overlanding purposes and I always come back to the Power Wagon because nothing else touches it for my purposes. The only thing that I want to add is a Carli suspension under it and larger tires, then it'll be perfect. This rig will reliably take me where I want to go and back in style and comfort. It has everything that I need in one package.
The stock suspension is fine. It's rides smooth and it's great Off-road. I originally wanted to level mine. But once I load it up with gear it sits level. And I don't want it to be any taller than stock on 35s.
I have a 2019 Power Wagon, it’s a great truck. 42K miles. People need to wake up, Ram is just as reliable if not more than any other truck on the road. My other car is a Jeep. All MOPAR, all the time.
@@Jason-Samko I watched a video before I bought my Grand Cherokee and a guy was saying that when Chrysler was owned by Daimler, they really showed them how to make better vehicles. I can’t say I know that to be 100% fact, but it makes sense to me.
Back in the day (1980's to 1990's) I was a writer for 4 Wheel and Off Road and a couple other rags. Total of 20 articles over around 10 years. I might know a little something. Built a number of 4x4's (and loved torching off independent suspensions to install beam axles) and in 2005 bought my first Power Wagon. It was stolen last year when it had over 350000 miles on the odometer and zero high dollar or drivetrain problems. I now own a 2022 we bought used after the theft. I'm loving mine. Superb piece of machinery. Since the hemi tick is the most controversial issue: Change oil every 5k using an oil with some zinc in it; occassionally drive it in eco mode to flow oil in the switching passages; avoid extended idling, or keep the rpm up around 1000 to 1500 to keep idle oil pressure up (I'm going to design a controller for this since there are times I need ta lengthy idle).
Great info. Let me know when you design that idler function. I have a video comingnout on Sunday about idle and low rpn driving and how it's not good for your truck
@@Jason-Samko We need to define low RPM. The Power Wagon has "safe" oil pressure by 1500 rpm. And that is one reason why in four wheeling it is a good idea to be in low range even if you don't "need" it. Will keep you advised of my developments.
Bought my 21 PW in May. Love it, like you said it's a beast. So far I've only really towed about 6k lbs, trailer and two sxs, but going up in the mountains it would still accelerate, I had to slow down for others in front of me. As a daily driver, for a big heavy truck, it's fast. I've watched Getty vids too.
I've not owned a power wagon. I did own a 2015 SRT GRAND CHEROKEE. With the 6.4. Higher horsepower rating. Ran the same kind of oil. I changed the oil every 3k. It never gave me any issues at all. It was very responsive. It was a great daily driver. It had the 8 speed automatic behind it. It was a lot of fun to drive. I'd definitely would buy a power wagon. If I needed a heavy-duty pickup. Not to mention. It's a good-looking truck. I do like the solid front axles in Rams & Fords. Compared to GMs IFS.
The Hemi tick must be the most overblown issue I’ve ever heard of , it’s written in the manual that it’s perfectly normal , is mainly from oil bleed usually when sitting around for a period of time does no damage and can be completely solved by using slightly thicker oil.
I was so set to get a Gladiator Rubicon but for about the same price I bought a new 22 PW. I considered a F250 Tremor with the 7.3 but the motor was still too new at the time. Also I had a 16’ Rebel before which was absolutely flawless so going to a PW was easy. Plus the PW tows the travel trailer or my wrangler so much better and it’s a beast off road
I'd say your crazy if you don't at least seriously consider the power wagon after seeing it up close it was even more than I thought it's nearly military grade
I really like the powerwagon features but bought a superduty. I liked the 7.3 better and had better luck with fords but had to build mine into what a powerwagon already is. Powerwagon is the best factory off road truck in my opinion. Throw some 37s on a powerwagon and good to go.
@rockie307 love the super duty too. And the 7.3 is my favorite HD motor available. But the power wagon front lockers and being a little smaller than the superduty is a benefit right from the factory. But I would take a super duty tremor 7.3 on 37s all day too!
Diesel Wouldn't Be Good for Me In The Cold Of Minnesota and The exhaust is worse too... So id rather have a gasser here myself anyways... Diesel would be a good choice in warm weather states and if ur main thing is towing really heavy things more often diesel would of been a really good idea back in the 90s when the price of diesel was soooo much lower.... Now more than normal gas
I have a 2015. Always change the oil on time and document it with receipts showing you used only the required Penzoil. Always do the transmission fluid on time and document. Always tow in tow mode. Never idle it. Never hyper mile it. Accept that it gets 10-12 mpg and embrace it. Mileage will destroy your resale value very fast. Be aware it is easy to overheat the winch, when it overheats it will switch off and it may be over 30 minutes before you can use it again. Lockers and sway bar disconnect only work in low range. In low the torque at idle is almost enough to overcome the braking force. Stick to 35s. The 37s will slow it down, hinder braking, and destroy the 66rfe transmission faster. 35 is the biggest spare that will fit. It’s a great truck. Don’t commute in it and do the maintenance on time. Love my truck, would suggest some kind of warranty.
@@Jason-Samko They also off a surround view trailer camera setup or a auxillary rear veiw camera if you get the option bed camera that sits up by the third brake light. If you get the this camera option the truck comes prewired for the additional cameras in the bumper. Since I have a RTT I use the additional camera outlet in the bumper and can use the digital rearview mirror to see un obstructed views while driving.
I got to test drive a 2020 Power Wagon with the 4.10 gear ratio, a brand new 2500 Laramie with the 3.73 gear ratio, and just sat in a GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 to feel the size difference, huge difference. I own a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD Crew Cab SLT, I like the bigger trucks. The Power Wagon and Laramie drove pretty similarly as far as ride quality, obviously a big difference between the powertrains, I like the gas motor with 4.10 gear ratios the most. The Power Wagon may be a bit overkill with all the off road features, but it is an amazing truck! More comfortable seats than the GM trucks, haven't gotten to sit in a newer nicer Ford truck yet. The FX4 2023 F350 with the 6.8 gas V8 we have at work is nice, but the front end is so stiff, you feel every bump. Still liking the Ram 2500's the best out of the newer HD trucks.
@@Jason-Samkoseems like you've owned a decent amount of vehicles over the years. Do you think the locking front diff is really worth it? 4WD and a rear locker in a 6000lb truck has proven to be very capable in the winter weather and muddy backroads. I'm not planning on doing any rock crawling. When has the front locking diff really come in handy? I know the front locker is better to have because of the weight over the front axle which may be more important for something like a Jeep or midsized truck, not nearly as heavy. May not be as important for a HD truck.
@AndyBowidowicz5712 if you've never needed a front locker it probably isn't important for you. For me in the mud it's mandatory. But you would never use a front locker on snowy roads. It's a obstacle feature turned on right before going thru a big hole and turned off immediately after getting thru it.
I prefer the Rebel, because of its towing and off road capabilities. If you’re simply an off road person. The PWag, is definitely the way to go! Besides, it’s what a truck should look like, at least in my eyes.
The Power Wagon was always on my short list of trucks, but I need that bedside graphic delete option. However, in reality, it is so much more truck than I would ever need. In 2023 I ended up trading in my '16 JKU Rubicon for a Tacoma TRD Offroad. While the Tacoma has been reliable thus far, the transmission is something I worry about daily. It shifts so much and at the weirdest times. There are two major complaints and one minor with it so far. 1) Perceivably unpredictable acceleration either by engine response or transmission shifting followed by harder than expected downshifting (gear ratio spacing?) while coasting. 2) Unpredictable braking... pressure from the master cylinder drops too much with decreasing RPMs. 3) The rear seat area has less volume than my Wrangler. As far as the mechanical complaints go, I think the truck physically requires higher RPMs while the tune profile is set for efficiency. It's fighting itself at times. As far as the Power Wagon goes, check out a 1957- 1960 Power Wagon. That is "old school cool." They even came with a PTO winch built in between the frame rails.
@jeffissimo1221 great info on the taco. My 22 trd offroad was a high strong motor that spent along of time high in the rpms. Still a great teuck but agree back seat space was very right. Love the old power wagons. Used to have a calendar of them!
Happy Ram PW owner myself. It’s my daily and the only thing I want to upgrade are the tires and with a little over 16k on the ODO that will be soon. Going in parking garages can make you want to duck. I think the only other truck I’d buy is another one in their last year of production.
I really like the Power Wagon. The main thing that holds me back on possibly getting one is the payload. I have seen mixed numbers and it's confusing. Some things list it low 1500+/- like a half ton. Others list it having 2500+. Do you know the tru info and numbers? Thanks for the vid. You can see this truck lights you up. It'd be great to see on the channel.
@gregjoubert5118 the power wagon gets very low payload numbers as the suspension is soft for offroad. It also doesn't tow as much as other 2500s either. Heck some 1500s tow more. But it's an off road truck so the suspension had to be softer
Scotty kilmer Did A Video Saying How Bad Ram Trucks Are But The Only Thing He Said in the actual video that was bad about it... (It was a etorque).. is that the electric portion of the motor was Italian 😄🤷...
If Stellantis manages to drive Ram out of business then you will forever regret not having a Power Wagon when it was still around. You know you wanna.. you know you do. Put your Nikes on a just do it. The Gladiator will still be there in two more years, it's getting a refresh in 2025.
From What People Have Said Researching...And From What Iv gathered...The Only Downside To A powerwagon is the mpg and the payload.. only .6 mpg difference(if thats accurate) (notice the decimal point😄) Comparing the power wagon to the GMC AT4x 2500 hd And of coarse That Doesn't Have Front Lockers Like Powerwagon... the 1500 AT4X Does Have Front Lockers...But A Very Short Bed....and lower payload and not even that much better gas mileage anyways.. like 2ish mpg difference if thats accurate
@sunchaser999 it's a beast but actually small compared to other HD trucks size wise. Love that about it. When my wife was picking out what HD truck we would buy for her as a daily driver and to tow our camper she drove them all and lived the ram 2500 Cummins most. So we bought a 2019 new. She drove it for 3 years on 35s. She loved it. She would live for me to get another one and she'd probably drive it more than me😂
@jimmyj5099 yes and no. Yes it would sink but the 37s and front locker would make a huge difference being able to chew thru. It's not as good of a choice as a gladiator. But it's still a very capable truck built like a tank to take a beating
Don’t need a 2500 as I don’t often tow or haul heavy. But if I did need one the PW would top my list. Traded a Ram 1500 Hemi for my Gladiator, the only thing I miss is the sweet Hemi sound. Thanks for the video!

@@fscottgray9784 very nice
@@AndyBowidowicz5712 great real world first hand info right there. Thanks
It is a beast! And it is Christy! Everything else is perfect
I prefer the Rebel, because of its towing and off road capabilities. If you’re simply an off road person. The PWag, is definitely the way to go! Besides, it’s what a truck should look like, at least in my eyes.
Rebel is amazing too! Would live a rebel 1500 with a front locker too
The Power Wagon was always on my short list of trucks, but I need that bedside graphic delete option.
Do you still get the beefy axels components if you go the tradesman route with the power wagon package?
Yes. The tradesman pw is basically the full pw with out the extra tech and comfort features. But wxact same capabilities and components
@ thanks so much! Your videos are really informative and helpful.
Happy Ram PW owner myself. It’s my daily and the only thing I want to upgrade are the tires and with a little over 16k on the ODO that will be soon. Going in parking garages can make you want to duck. I think the only other truck I’d buy is another one in their last year of production.
@@That_Paul_Guy such an amazing truck!
But it's an off road truck so the suspension had to be softer
i want the 2500 single cab hurricane when it comes out
gonna be amazing motor.
I’m seriously thinking about one of these
Love the power wagon
@ same. Hard to beat. Especially since they are not making them anymore. I know there are concepts out but not for the next generation as of now
The Power Wagon is bad ass.
Agree 100
Scotty kilmer Did A Video Saying How Bad Ram Trucks Are But The Only Thing He Said in the actual video that was bad about it... (It was a etorque).. is that the electric portion of the motor was Italian 😄🤷...
If Stellantis manages to drive Ram out of business then you will forever regret not having a Power Wagon when it was still around. You know you wanna.. you know you do. Put your Nikes on a just do it. The Gladiator will still be there in two more years, it's getting a refresh in 2025.
@Scroll_Lock 😂😂 a person can not be as good looking and sexy as me without learning how to reject temptation! 😂😂
@@Jason-Samko 🤣
Only wish it actually came with an actual shifter on column instead of a rotary transmission dial to me that’s where Dodge screwed up the truck
@@billyrowland12 yep loved to coloum shifter in my 2019 ram 2500 Cummins. The gaser gets the dial
Great Video…I love that Truck..
Glad you enjoyed
I wish the power wagon came in a 1500 like the rebel
@@DCGEMINI202 yep or add a front locker to the rebel
I had a Dodge power wagon 2023 piece of junk short in electrical system. They cannot figure it out in the shop five times took a serious beat on it.
Made in Mexico
@@robertclark2546 sorry you had to deal with that
Imagine driving around in a school bus all day and only being able to carry 4 students? That's the Power Wagon experience.😂
@DaveInCanada081 it's the smallest size HD truck available. Ford is the biggest I think
It’s a tank. Very intimidating beast.
She would live for me to get another one and she'd probably drive it more than me😂
I would only purchase this Ram.
I would never ever purchase a Ram with a 6 cylinder, EVER.
So wouldn't that Power Wagon be too heavy for the swamps in Georgia? Wouldn't that thing just sink right down into the mud?
@jimmyj5099 yes and no. Yes it would sink but the 37s and front locker would make a huge difference being able to chew thru. It's not as good of a choice as a gladiator. But it's still a very capable truck built like a tank to take a beating
Don’t need a 2500 as I don’t often tow or haul heavy. But if I did need one the PW would top my list. Traded a Ram 1500 Hemi for my Gladiator, the only thing I miss is the sweet Hemi sound. Thanks for the video!
Love the pw but the gladiator is my favorite
I'd buy one if it wasn't $100,000 and came with the culture of "ram bros."
Tradesman power wagon starts off at $59k. And that's before you start dealing.
@@371kenny it's so much money man. it's just so much money.
@raymond_sycamore oh they are all ridiculous over priced.
LOL
@@raymond_sycamore Yes they are, I buy lease backs, the Pwag value drops big time in 2 years, when your out in the bush dragging 600lbs of meat home to your family, at least for myself, you will never ever think I paid too much for this truck. Its all smiles.
