    Super cool project. I wouldn't have thought the little motors would react that quickly but they seem to turn to air brake mode quite fast. Very well done.

    I'm wondering if this could be available as a kit? I run into issues with my car's rear getting loose under heavy braking at the track. I think I could shave some seconds off my lap times with something like this

    • @samklare1088
      @samklare1088 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I would first recommend replacing your factory shocks with Bilstein shocks. I went to Bilstein shocks three years ago and have seen all that life has to offer since. Simply life changing.

      @@samklare1088 What an excellent suggestion Mr. Klare. I too am yearning to get more out of life (and of course shave some seconds off my lap times) and I think some Bilstein shocks might be a great place to start

    • @antolivdiaz
      @antolivdiaz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yea bro this might be an issue of a wrong braking technique since when you brake all the weight of the car goes to the front and makes you lose grip at the back, or in most cases you might need the rear suspension to be a little stiffer to keep the weight shifting more balanced and keep it planted

    • @jibranandnajmi
      @jibranandnajmi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah man would love to see this as a kit, whatever it does to your lap times would look sick AF on a street car too if done nicely.

  • @chaos_rainz

    That is so awesome! It reminds me of the air brake on a McLaren 765lt. You're right about that carbon fibre vinyl! It might also have helped the drag coefficient once you hit 180mph 🤣. In wing mode, you need the endplates on the sides to get the sick vortices and less drag. But it's way cooler and more practical as primarily an air brake, and you've nailed it. It would be great to get some data and run experiments like distance to stop from different speeds.
    Better yet, the data from a whole active aero package with front spoiler/splitter that descends dynamically and radiator louvres that react to temperature and airflow. Better ground effect with flat panels under the body and active suspension to dynamically lower the body closer to the ground, and whatever else everyone can come up with. The fuel savings would definitely pay for the modifications in one to two lifetimes max! 🤣
    You may need to find a different vehicle, though, because more than suction cups might be necessary.😆 By the way, shout out to those suction cups!! They are hardcore!
    Great work Michael! Keep it up!

    Building a DRS system style wing for my Toyota right now and have been at it for about a week now, and this video has so much good information I'm gonna have to watch it twice. Seriously great stuff and thanks for letting me know there's an arduino nano so I don't have to take up so much space with the electronics!

    How cool, I came across this video by accident! I currently have 2 lamborghini's 1988.5 countach and a 2005 gallardo and I have been designing a better active rear wing as well as a new front wing of my own design. I was thinking of servos at 1st but leaning towards linear actuators. Any ideas? Thank you, for the great video and I just subscribed

    Mr Rechtin , unreal work and great video - congratulations ! I'm reading the other comments - maybe there is a substantial commercial opportunity there for you . I shudder to think about the legal costs in protecting yourself though . If you trust your suction caps enough or maybe use nuts and bolts and put a few holes in your car , I'd love to see how it goes at 150 kays per hour or more . I'm guessing that there would be a pile of down force and braking there .

    The way you have connected the servos is a call for disaster. You should not be able to move it by hand as this would tear the gears down or blow the servo electronics.
    You need worm gears, thus you would be able to control it from servo part but not able to move it due to wind/hand pushing.
    In addition a metal gear servos would be nice addition.
    Btw what program did you use for the wind simulations?

    I wish homemade active aero was more common. The main point of Tuner Car culture, is turning you're cheap, economy box, or sport car, into a home grown, personalized monster, that can not only out perform luxury hyoercars, but is also perfect for you, in feel and usage. Imagine a Ferrari getting out ran, in corners, or straight up, by something that can carry more people & things then it.

    its hard to tell the speeds in the video it looked like the top end was about 50mph? at 100mph would this things motors have enough strength to hold it forward. i have faith in the suction cups not being the first failing point. i bought a big suction cup just a little bigger than those on your wing we attached it to a sheet of glass and yanked on it with everthing we had and they just work. genius idea for the suction cups. i know you kinda were doing this in a funny way where it wasnt too serious and had some satire about it. but with a little tweaking to parts ect. you might really be able to sell something like this and make a killing. all you would have to do is gather data on that thing working. maybe not that paticular prototype but say prototype B and you add endplates to the thing, small ones that still go with the look, if you could get this thing wind tunnel tested (expensive) and yield results of any kind. even if its just 100 pounds of downforce at 120mph and say drag in brake mode of almost double that ect.. people WILLLLL buy those. the bondo sand bondo deal seems like too much work but there has to be another way that is cheap and would work aswell. with stronger components and maybe a few slight options in design. if it was proved to work in a wind tunnel and priced at the cost of parts+ time it takes to make one + mark up due to having no competition. i think you could sell those for way over 1000 each, or say math it out so you make 800$ on each wing profit. you make 100 of those things in a year that's $80,000 a year. i have no doubt in my mind you could make ALOT of money with those.
