@@slashedbeautyI am a purist on powder foundation days. Just wash face, use and spf moisturized, and then use powder foundation after concealing my under eyes. I’ve also used with mattifying primer, which helps with oil. But for the most part, I use powder foundations for my quick days ❤
@@gabrielacortez4893I’ve heard the L’Oréal is the best for truly oily skin, but I haven’t tried it. Thanks for your review! I’ve been really on the fence about trying a powder foundation since my skin is changing quite a bit as I’m getting older. I’m finding now at 36 that my liquid complexion products are breaking down on my face way too soon, and haven’t really changed my routine (I exfoliate, shave peach fuzz, cleanse, tone and moisturize). Based on this, I think I'm going to try the Essence one. It's low priced enough for me to get an idea if I want to use a powder foundation at all. Good video. THX
I've been liking the NYX matte but not flat powder foundation. I buy it on Amazon and it has tons of good reviews. It may not be full coverage but it looks natural and it blurs. My skin is normal to dry and textured. This was a good review. I'd like to see more brands, maybe a part 2?
So glad you liked it enough for a part two!! Do you use anything along with the NYX powder for more coverage, or do you prefer lighter coverage overall?

I've never found a powder foundation that doesn't look a little cakey on my chin especially, and none of them cover melasma as well as liquid foundation
Yes! I use a pink tone up kbeauty sunscreen with some translucent pressed powder, settingspray, a light dusting of a powder foundation(loreal or elf) and setting spray again. Works great in the summer.

@@slashedbeauty The flawless pressed one really does give an air brushed look. It's great for oil control so I would think for your tzone. The new powder foundation is called soft touch and has good reviews. I love the new blurring lipsticks also. The shade vampy is a gorgeous blue based red. Velvet is A Rosie mid toned mauve
This was such a helpful video, thank you so much for all the comparisons! I have dry skin and I absolutely love the Essence powder foundation, I especially love it in the winter when I am extra dry because I don't find that it clings to flaky skin/dry patches 😊
Yay thanks for watching and sharing your preference! I am definitely going to get use out of it, especially with my hyperpigmentation clearing up and not needing as much coverage when my skin is clear.
I have all of these except the Maybelline. My skin is combo leaning more dry and aging. I like the Elf the best for an overall powder foundation. When I wear liquid or cream foundation, I use the L'Oreal powder only on my nose (my nose has large pores and is oily) instead of liquid/cream. I have found my nose doesn't do well with wet. I tend to use the Essence as a finishing powder when I want more coverage, and not as a foundation.
I've used powder foundations for many years, both drugstore and high end and the only one I've really hated was the Maybelline. I found that it made my skin look very dry and flat, no sheen at all.
Yeah, it was definitely the one that stayed the most matte out of this bunch. Would for sure work better on oilier skin types. Which was your fave from the drugstore?
My skin is just like how you are explaining yours Im new to powder foundation and my tip for you is to use it with the sponge they give you its works best
I have tested these (besides the essence) with the sponge as well-- you definitely get more coverage that way but I find that it can also make it look cakey and harder to blend (which defeats the purpose for choosing powder, in my opinion!)
i like the elf one mainly because it actually matches my olive skin 😆 i wish it looked a bit better on my dehydrated skin but it's the first one i've tried and i love how quick and easy it is!
My pro tip for dry skin with powder or mineral is to apply a facial oil as primer. Let it sit for a minute and then apply powder. It keeps my face hydrated and melts the powder into my skin - no cake look.
Oooo interesting observation!! I will say the caveat is filming at different times of the day can mess a little with lighting/coloring! Thank you for watching 💜
I love wearing a powder foundation in the summer with a light layer of conceler and cream bronzer. Feels a lot lighter on my skin in the heat. I use the Real Techniques Miracle powder sponge, slightly damp, too apply the powder foundation and it goes on smooth and gives good coverage. I have extremely oily skin so no powder foundation is drying one me lol.
The elf and L'Oreal look best. Apparently, elf discontinued this product though. I already use L'Oreal and won't change a thing. I actually just mist water to set it, but I will say; you need the right primer to get the best out of it. I use a pore refining primer serum. Again, wouldn't change a thing. My least favorite was Maybelline from this demo, but maybe it's because it was too dark due to oxidation. I noticed that elf did the opposite. It got better. Anyway, I've never paid more than $12 for L'Oreal powder foundation. Best to check local grocery stores and coupon if at all a possibility in your area. Thx again for proving the powder point! 😂❤
@@slashedbeauty I'll have to look into it again, but my friend told me it was nowhere to be found anymore and she'd been loving it. I looked it up and it was saying it was discontinued. But, I'm sure Amazon will always have all the back stock at least for awhile.🤷🏻♀️ Maybe ask the company directly. I can call them and find out.
@@OpalMoonstone247 Interesting-- all shades are still listed on the brand's website so they may just be pulling it out of retail stores but will still be available on their site!
So this won’t work for dry or leer skin with wrinkles. Seems it’s making it stand out more. Gonna wear it out throughout the day. I sweat while clewing. Been humid. Maybe it will even out and set better.
I never would've used a powder foundation years ago but as I've aged (46 now) and wear/need less coverage, I really like powder and the Loreal Infallible is my favorite! It's perfect to quickly throw on if I have a Zoom meeting. But for more substantial wear, out in public, my favorite combo is to first spot conceal (I use elf creamy camo concealer) and then the powder foundation applied with a velvet blender poof (whatever those are called! LOL). I find this stays really well and I live in Florida! Adding: I've also tried the elf powder foundation and didn't like it. I forget exactly why, I think it broke up and got patchy.
I mention in the video, some of them do crease in my expression lines which I believe would transfer to wrinkles. I think the Maybelline one did the best at not creasing.
Great video! But I have one point to share: the elf powder being a darker shade helped in increasing the coverage because it actually darkened your skin tone to match your dark spot rather than covering the spots to match your actual skin tone so the comparison is not valid
That’s a really interesting theory!! Though then, if it were to fade as the maybelline side, in general you would still see spots through it with the intensity lower? Also it’s for sure warmer than my dark spots and is about the same shade as the maybelline foundation!
@@slashedbeauty thank u..actually I feel like most youtubers either put too much light infront of them or zoom too far away for which the complexion looks the same for all foundations, concealers or powder..
@@NusratJahanAntoraa Totally makes sense! I usually zoom in but I think with this one I was also trying to crop it for Instagram so it couldn't be too zoomed in-- that's why I included the up-close shots for the before/afters! Me too, but MAC is so bad for creasing! Even when I was in my early twenties, it looked so bad as it is not fluorescent light-friendly, or humid heat friendly whatsoever. Switching to L'Oreal was a game- changer. I'm so glad they basically invented a transfer-proof version of MAC(Both owned by L'Oreal).
@OpalMoonstone247 which L'Oréal are you talking about the foundation or the foundation powder? Also if you can give me a helpful tip that would be awesome 🤗. I was a Mac whore and I didn't even dare to switch it up but I started using Mac when I was 18 then I branched out at like 30. Imo now Mac sucks. Their little as* lip glosses are sticky af and they are 27$ meanwhile I got a lip glosses from ABH and it's gorgeous not sticky and it's only 20$ and it's a pretty big size. I would never buy anything from Mac unless it was this mascara called zoom lash and it literally looked like I had falsies on but they d/c it I actually bought a brown mascara from color pop and I love it and I also use my og mascara called telescopic just the one that comes in gold packaging and I use the pink primer and curl my lashes and I'm good to go Sorry I didn't mean to write you a novel lmao 😂 🤣

@slashedbeauty thank you so much for your help I think I'm just going to use the L'Oréal true match nude and on my skin I only need to powder where my concealer goes but I should probably powder my whole face Idk if it's indoors or out but what's cool is it's at the hard rock I'm sure you've heard of it Idk why I'm nervous but I can't let her see me be nervous cause then she will be I know I'm going to cry watching her walk that stage but momma bear has to keep it together
😮 I have all of these except the essence, like u. And I don't want the essence one because I love the other ones are amazing for my normal, or, balanced skin with a little bit of dryness on my lips and around the lips 💋
If you know you need a « sick » day, wear the lightest cool toned foundation and blue based blush and lipstick with zero bronzer the day before. Perfect for a much needed mental health day.
I use the essence one when I don’t want or have time for liquid foundation. I do spot conceal a concealer with it and for the price you can’t go wrong. I’ve been wanting to try the elf one but heard mixed reviews on it caking in lines.
Yeah, I experienced that slightly. Not awful, but it happened! I think spot concealing with the essence powder is a great way to get away with a $6 buy!!

Oooo interesting observation!! I will say the caveat is filming at different times of the day can mess a little with lighting/coloring! Thank you for watching 💜
New follower ❣️ loved the review
Thank you so much!
I have oily skin which should I choose? I trust your opinion, I love your videos
I break it down by skin type at the end but probably maybelline 😃
@@slashedbeauty Thank you
I will say the more dry maybelline that wears away can be fixed with a hydrating primer and a setting spray
Thank you for that recommendation!!
Thanks for that sponge tip!!

Thank you so much!! Glad you’re here! 🫶🏼
Have you tried J.Cat's Aquasurance Compact Foundation? Very full coverage & smoothing
I haven’t, but someone else also recommended it, I’ll have to try!! Thank you!
Wait where did you hear about it being discontinued??? 😭😭😭😭 I did a search and nothing came up.
@@slashedbeauty I'll have to look into it again, but my friend told me it was nowhere to be found anymore and she'd been loving it. I looked it up and it was saying it was discontinued. But, I'm sure Amazon will always have all the back stock at least for awhile.🤷🏻♀️
Maybe ask the company directly.
What shades are you using for essence and L’Oréal???
The elf shade is Light 280N (too dark for me) and the L'oreal one is Vanilla
Super helpful video! ❤
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 💜
Can you do a simple makeup tutorial using elf powder foundation
That's a great idea for a YT short!! Thanks for the recommendation!
Great review❤, I have very oily T zone but more mature skin and I live in a humid climate, maybe this is something for me during summer 😅
I find powder foundations to just be more lightweight for summer-- it's not humid here but it's HOT... usually we average 110 daily!
@@slashedbeauty exactly, more lightweight because in a humid climate everything is to heavy and feels sticky 😅
This is great! Thanks so much!!!
Thank you for watching and commenting ☺😍
Which is best for dry skin
16:37 I touch on this. 🫶🏼 as someone with combo/dry skin elf was my fave but essence is an option too
I know you dont have wrinkles but do you think these would crease ?
I mention in the video, some of them do crease in my expression lines which I believe would transfer to wrinkles. I think the Maybelline one did the best at not creasing.
Great video! But I have one point to share: the elf powder being a darker shade helped in increasing the coverage because it actually darkened your skin tone to match your dark spot rather than covering the spots to match your actual skin tone so the comparison is not valid
That’s a really interesting theory!! Though then, if it were to fade as the maybelline side, in general you would still see spots through it with the intensity lower? Also it’s for sure warmer than my dark spots and is about the same shade as the maybelline foundation!
j cat Compact powder is it good for oily skin???
haven't tried that one!
can u zoom in a bit closer when u record??
Yes! I usually do for application , oops! 😅
I do appreciate this feedback though because it helps me make my vids better!
@@slashedbeauty thanks alot for understanding and explaining...
I can't wait to watch but I used to be a Mac studio fix
I would never buy anything from Mac unless it was this mascara called zoom lash and it literally looked like I had falsies on but they d/c it
I actually bought a brown mascara from color pop and I love it and I also use my og mascara called telescopic just the one that comes in gold packaging and I use the pink primer and curl my lashes and I'm good to go
Sorry I didn't mean to write you a novel lmao 😂 🤣
Miranda I wasn't done lol 😆. But I'm wicked dark rn so I've been using L'Oréal true match nude and the Maybelline tinted oil
So my daughter graduates Tuesday so help me out
Idk which to use
I may wanna try the L'Oréal powder foundation so I need help
I'm 54 and dry
I'm Ft Lauderdale and it's hot 🔥 as balls here
Hmm I would worry about the dry with L’Oréal because I found it to be pretty dry on my face. Elf may be a better bet!! Though I have really liked the true match for sweaty days + a good setting spray like revlon or wet n wild!
@slashedbeauty thank you so much for your help
I think I'm just going to use the L'Oréal true match nude and on my skin I only need to powder where my concealer goes but I should probably powder my whole face
Idk if it's indoors or out but what's cool is it's at the hard rock
I'm sure you've heard of it
Idk why I'm nervous but I can't let her see me be nervous cause then she will be
I know I'm going to cry watching her walk that stage but momma bear has to keep it together
u should try sheglam powder foundation
Shein and Sheglam freak me out lol
Hey loreal compact 020 is fair or dark shade
It's light. "Ivory"
@@slashedbeauty mam is this yellow tone ivory shade
@@aartisagar1630 Sorry, I don't understand what you're asking. Shade 20 in the L'Oreal Infallible powder is called Ivory.
@@slashedbeauty sry mam 1 question forever 52 or loreal compact which one is best
@@aartisagar1630 I've never tried Forever 52.
Im a begginer in makeup so my doubt is aft using this powder foundation shud we use compact, plz don't judge me for asking such silly question
Do you mean setting with another powder? No, you don't need to :)
😮 I have all of these except the essence, like u. And I don't want the essence one because I love the other ones are amazing for my normal, or, balanced skin with a little bit of dryness on my lips and around the lips 💋
Do you find the Maybelline or L'Oreal to accentuate your dryness?
which one do you like more & lasts longer on your skin?
I can definitely see the elf powder disperse out when you were applying it. 😂
Totally!! lol
If you know you need a « sick » day, wear the lightest cool toned foundation and blue based blush and lipstick with zero bronzer the day before. Perfect for a much needed mental health day.
😂😂😂😂 that’s great
I use the essence one when I don’t want or have time for liquid foundation.
Have you tried the Milani powder foundation? What do you think of it?
I haven’t! I tried their cream to powder a while ago and it didn’t work for me but I haven’t tried just the powder!
I got a great powder foundation at shop miss A. I'm shocked at how good it looked and lasted
Which one is it?? I love shop miss a!
@@slashedbeauty it's the aoa soft touch bluring foundation powder. It's so natural
You look like you could be my foundation twinsie! What shades do you use?
So the first two are slightly too deep/warm and the last two are slightly too light/cool lol! In L'Oreal True Match Liquid for example I'm an N3!
Is elf good for dry skin
I have combo/dry skin and I didn't feel like it was uncomfortable or catching on patches!
L'Oreal shade?
Vanilla
I feel like to really give them a fair shot you really should try half the face with the applicator that comes with it.
I’ve found across the board the sponge applicator may add more coverage but makes the foundation cakey/hard to blend
I’m here to find an alternative because it seems the elf powder foundation is discontinued 😭
Why do you say that? It’s still marked as a best seller with all shades available on their site
@ after writing this I checked your link and placed an order with elf. Thanks so much. I don’t know why Amazon and Walmart aren’t carrying it anymore and I just assumed it was discontinued. I’m so relieved I have 3 on the way haha.
@@stellasfarmlife2465it could be that they’re moving it to only on their site to make room with their retailers for new product! I’m super glad you were able to order and thank you so much for using my link! 🎉❤
@ you earned that link usage in my book!
I think Elf doesn’t have talc in it. Perhaps that’s why it was very powdery.
You could be right!
Great video👏😍🫶
Thank you 🤗
I prefer Elf
same!
The Maybelline looked much more natural than the Elf. The elf wore better, maintains better coverage.
I would say that's pretty accurate!

The essence foundation contains no nasties.
Can you elaborate on the ingredients you're referring to?
@@slashedbeautyIm german, it’s not so easy to express it in english.Loreal contains silicones, perfume and nano particles.I personally avoid these ingredients. The essence foundation contains none of them. The Maybelline one contains silicones too.Essence doesn’t contain silicones, parabens and mineral oils.So I prefer this one. 🤗🤗
Elf ‘ color matches you better.
yeah they were all a little off haha
💜
thanks for watching, megan!!

I hate the puffs they come with. They make it so cakey. Completely useless. I miss the days of the CoverGirl plush puffs!
Yeah they are supposed to provide more coverage than a brush but I don't find the appearance to be very flattering!
🦋
I ordered the esscense powder foundation for store pickup at Ulta and they gave me the tester 🥲
stopppp that is foul!!! wait but there arent many testers in the drugstore section besides colourpop-- are you sure someone maybe didn't open it to swatch it?? regardless def swap it out!
