  • Yasir Qadhi shows the knowledge of the problematic transmission of the Quran is now trickling down to the mainstream Muslim world. Update: on October 7th, 2020, Qadhi false flagged this video for copyright because he’s trying to erase all traces of his embarrassing interview. I won the appeal. What will happen in the Muslim world as the problematic transmission of the Quran becomes common knowledge? For anyone not familiar with "ahruf" and "qira'at" that Qadhi is discussing, see here: th-cam.com/video/lH6M-iLVcKM/w-d-xo.html; Shabir Ally on ahruf: th-cam.com/video/c0Z7_MAZX5g/w-d-xo.html. In this edit, I focus on western vs. eastern scholars, the holes in the traditional narrative, and ahruf and qira'at. Original video here: th-cam.com/video/8Dc1HJ8Uif4/w-d-xo.html.

Firstly, he is talking about the 7 styles in which the Quran was revealed in. You could write or recite the Quran to these 7 styles. This teacher cannot reject prophet Muhammad s.a.w so he cannot make one superior to another. All of these 7 styles of the Quran goes back to the prophet s.a.w. we have authentic narattions. The Quran is perfectly preserved from prophet Muhammad s.a.w to us.
Millions have been memorizing the Qur'an sense the time of prophet Muhammad s.a.w until now. Its impossible for it to be corrupted.
      Unlike your gospels and bible.
1 they are not in original language.
2 Gospels contradict each other in many points.
3 they are stories rather than narrations
4 nothing goes back to jesus.

🛑 CLARIFICATIONS BY DR YASIR QADHI🛑. After a recent interview with Br. Muhammad Hijab, some missionaries and anti-Muslim propagandists have read their own prejudices into our very brief discussion. Some of them have twisted my words to suit their agenda. While Muslim scholarship has pioneered Quranic studies for centuries and continues to do so, the fact remains that we all agree on the demonstrably proven fact that the Quran has been preserved in its entirety, word for word, and that we believe that all of the ten recitations (qira'āt) of the Quran are revealed from Allah. To see such Islamophobes try to read in an argument that no one amongst us ever made in order to prove their incorrect narrative is only demonstrating the unethical tactics they resort to.
Here is a beautiful example of this from a post from a few years ago: The recent carbon dating of an ancient Quranic manuscript at the University of Birmingham has now added even more proof regarding the unparalleled degree of certainty with which the Quran has been preserved. These folios have been Carbon 14 dated to within the same time frame, or perhaps shortly after, our Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam). In other words, if this parchment wasn't written for/by a Companion, then it was written by/for a student of one of the Companions.
In this image, prepared by Prof Godlas, you can see the original manuscript, written in the ancient Hijazi manuscript, and compare it with its modern, typed equivalent.
This collection, called the 'Mingana collection' (after the researcher Alphonse Mingana, d. 1937) was purchased by Mingana in either Iraq or Syria, almost a hundred years ago. Edward Cadbury, the founder of the famous chocolate company, sponsored Mingana's trips to the Middle East. His collection, which includes hundreds of manuscripts, is primarily housed at the University of Birmingham, in the UK.
Many Muslims ask me, 'How come so many Islamic documents and manuscripts ended up in non-Muslim lands and libraries?' The response, in a nutshell is: colonialism, and the power of money. Some manuscripts were simply 'acquired'; but most were sold by private owners, or on the black market, to travelers from Europe who could pay what would have been considered astronomical prices for the time.
And frankly, that is a good thing. The Muslim world simply did not have (nor does it have!) the latest technology or the scientific means to take care of these manuscripts the way that the Western world is now doing. It is my belief that Divine Will is allowing these manuscripts to be preserved in the best manner possible, even if that is occurring at the hands of those who do not believe in them in the first place.

Uloom al-Qur'an - Sciences of the Quran
Ahruf - "letters", Muhammad said in a hadith that "The Quran was revealed in 7 ahruf" and nobody knows what it means.
Qira'aat - "readings" - versions of the Quran that are available today
Uthmanic Mushaf - Quran written by Uthman after he burned all other copies
    Qari - reciter
fa dakhala fee nafsee shakk- so doubt entered into me
    shakk - doubt
khalaas, sami'na wa-ata'ana - that's enough, we hear and we obey
    riwayat - narrations
athar - literally "remnants". hadiths from early Muslims, not from Muhammad directly
    makhtutat - manuscripts
ulema - "scientists". Islamic scholars call themselves scientists.

Whats the problem with what YQ briefly articulated? - "'Umar bin Al-Khattab said:
I heard Hisham bin Al-Hakim reciting Surat Al-Furqan during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). I listened to his recitation and noticed that he recited it in several different ways which Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had not taught me. So I was about to jump over him during his Salat (prayer) but I waited till he finished his Salat (prayer) whereupon I put, either his upper garment or my upper garment around his neck and seized him by it and asked him, "Who has taught you this Surah?" He replied: "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) has taught it to me." I said (to him), "You have told a lie! By Allah, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) has taught me this Surah which I have heard you reciting." So I dragged him to the Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). I said: "O Allah's Messenger I have heard this man reciting Surat Al-Furqan in a way in which you have not taught me, and you did teach me Surah Al-Furqan." On that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "O 'Umar, release him! Recite, O Hisham". So Hisham recited before him in the way as I heard him reciting. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "It has been revealed like this." Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Recite, O 'Umar" So recited it. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "It has been revealed like this." And then he added, "This Qur'an has been revealed to be recited in seven different ways, so recite it whichever way is easier for you." Sahih al-Bukhari 6936

Actually as an Arabic speaking Christian I don't see ahruf and kiraat as a problem of preservation. Muslims always claimed that quran was un-doted. And it was later doted. The problem is did they dot it correctly. That's the question. The even bigger problem that the dotting creates is the large amount of possibilities the original text could have meant.
Tae this for example, which I highly doubt you'll find in any of the readings.
The part in the quran that speaks of the crucifixion of Jesus says it the last part that those who disagreed about him ( Jesus) are in doubt , which refers mostly to disciples not knowing what happened. But if you add one dot to the word إختلفوا on the ف to have two dots instead of one it would become إختلقوا the meaning would change from those who disagreed/ argued to those who created stories about Jesus which would mean in this context the Jewish leaders that fabricated the story of disciples stealing the body. Just one example of a whole array of infinite possibilities.

You touch on the the whole array of difficulty involved with having a "scripta defectiva" in a language in its development stage and using a primitive script and then presenting this as "clear and uncomplicated and perfectly preservable". It simply can't be.

I like how he dichotomized 'eastern' vs. 'western' takes on what scholarship should be like. In the western tradition you start with the 'thing' which is going to be studied and you apply a methodology which should be replicable, understandable and falsifiable and then you go all Socratic on it till either you have to acknowledge that the thing cannot be taken apart any further (i.e.- arriving at base facts or the 'truth' of the matter) or you have to acknowledge that you can't at this time take it any further then you already have. Whereas here Yasir indirectly claims to have a crisis of personhood while at Yale over the fact that if you go more than a few layers deep on the Quran the things which he now claims everyone knows are there (which is him basically flirting with apostasy over the multiple translations of the Quran). And in order to save himself from the crisis he falls back on a tradition which states you can as 'some' questions but there is a hard line you aren't supposed to cross. A had line, mind you, which he doesn't define, but which might kinda of rhyme with 'perfect preservation' but not quite.

A variant form of the verbs or nouns may have a similar meaning but is not the same.

As a follower of Christ, I appreciate that Christian scholars that have been doing this for some time and engaging with those in academia and other religions' scholars who may have differing presuppositions. Having faith from the Christian perspective entails that we trust which assumes that we're asking tough questions and analyzing the material and artifacts, making that analysis accessible to all who want to know. Otherwise, you have a lot of folks under a cloud of lies and in denial who close off conversation when presented with information that brushes up against what they've always been told. Grace and peace all.

Five things that Muslims cannot and will never answer:
    1. The word "al-Masih" means "the anointed" and it always meant "the savior" in Jewish history. If Jesus is al-Masih, whom Jesus saved from what by how?
    2. "I challenge you to show me one verse from the Bible that clearly states he was God." Challenge accepted.
Isaiah 44:6 (God says) "Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: I am the first and I am the last, And there is no God besides Me."
Revelation 22:13 (Jesus says) "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end."
    3. Quran was not preserved perfectly.
3-1. You do not have the original Quran which is a compile of barks, leaves, leathers, and stones that Zayd ibn Thabit collected under the order of Uthman.
3-2. Many people who memorized the Quran died during the war.
3-3. People fought and even killed each other because of different recitation.
3-4. When Zayd compiled the Quran, there were two verses that only one man remembered. But Quran teaches you need at least two men for valid testimony.
3-5. ibn Masud didn't like the Quran that Zayd compiled and even said "it is deceitful." That's the Quran you have today.
3-6. Besides of 7 Qiraat, there are even more "versions" of Quran which reads and means differently.
3-7. Aysha reported that there were more than 200 verses in Surah 33 but now you have only 73 verses.
3-8. Zayd and Uthman completed "one" version but you now have at least "seven" Qiraats.
If the Quran is preserved by recitation, shouldn't Zayd, or ibn Masud, or Uthman remember the whole Quran correctly? Why did they need to collect all remaining materials and ask to all reciters? This historical fact shows that even the closest companions of Muhammad didn't memorize the Quran perfectly.
    4. Is the Kabaah the house of God? If infinite(limitless) God goes into that limited structure, does he cease to be limitless God? If God enters into that building, does God stop being everywhere(omnipresence)? Who is the God inside the building and who is the God outside of the building?
    5. If the Bible is corrupt, where in the Quran says that? If the Bible is corrupt, why do you find evidence of Muhammad from the corrupt book? If the Bible is corrupt, why Allah in the Quran gives same authority as the Quran, and orders Muhammad to "go to the people of the scripture and ask about what I told you"?

There is no free will in Islam. For example: Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Adam and Moses argued with each other. Moses said to Adam. 'O Adam! You are our father who disappointed us and turned us out of Paradise.' Then Adam said to him, 'O Moses! Allah favored you with His talk (talked to you directly) and He wrote (the Torah) for you with His Own Hand. Do you blame me for action which Allah had written in my fate forty years before my creation?' So Adam confuted Moses, Adam confuted Moses," the Prophet (ﷺ) added, repeating the Statement three times.
A just God will not write the destiny of a person to commit evil and then punish him for the same thing he made him do it.

Hijab is a guy who can win a debate by increasing his voice or stressing a immanent contradiction in the quran.
Eg. allah prays furrrrrrrrrr mohamad not 'Tooooooooo' mohamad.
Haha either ways allah PRAYS which means he is not the God.

Islam is a divine thing. It is not dependent on any mere mortals. Having doubts is that particular person's shortcomings. No matter what no humans can belittle it. People trying to harm, spread doubt or corrupt it will only hasten their own destruction. May the Creator curse these people and save mankind from their evil intentions.

stop that nonsense: allah did not even protect his kaaba against the Qarmatians, who destroyed it, took the stone away, peeded on it for 20 years and sold it back in the 8 pieces it is today...
allah is just as impotent as his prophet who could not even get a son to adulthood (9 years?)

That is because he's just trying to parade himself as a scholar of the Qur'an when he's not. He can speak of defects all he likes, but fails in presenting a single one. Just blowing hot air. You'd have seen this if his message was not so much music to your ears... you just want to believe it's true.
