    Frederic Taylor's first job as a foreman of a machine shop. He applied his organizational skills to finding the most efficient way to cut metal and along the way invented High Speed Steel. You can read his research report that was originally published in 1906 as a kindle book. "On The Art Of Cutting Metals" by Frederic Taylor.

    The word "customer" seldom appears in classical management which shows a predominant focus on control of labour and not customer satisfaction.
    The entire performance management process (which is based on the classical management theories) is very subjective, focused on satisfying the boss and entirely subjective; which makes it a very dangerous tool, often leading to irrational behaviour.

    The slides are interesting. People of color building burgers on a production line. Sculpted young white males chilling and playing like so many young Athenians at the School of Athens cause they’re “the thinkers”. The more things change...I just finished reading Cheeper By The Dozen and Brave New World so all of a sudden this management theories are fascinating, appalling and eye opening. Your presentations are clear, direct, informative and enjoyable. Thank you. PS: Your image choices are simply a reflection of our reality.

    • @orgcomm
      @orgcomm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting point, Eduardo. I think you are accurate but it also depends on the host community, especially in the US, as the photos show. I grew up around a lot of factories and it was a mostly white community and the factories were mainly filled with poor and working-class white males and females (roughly 50/50) back in the day. Now, that community has changed and more people of color also work in those factories. I think the key difference is education level and that cuts across nations. In China, for example, the citizens who come from either rural or inner-city areas work in factories. The same is true for India and these (and many others) are largely racially homogeneous countries. Race makes little difference in those countries where everybody is the same race. The manufacturing jobs, shipping jobs, etc. don't require a higher education but working at most offices does require a bachelors degree. So, I think you raise an interesting point, yes. I'll just add to that the idea that we see the same types of stratification around the world where race isn't a key variable. It's one of the reasons I went into education. It's probably the #1 way for people of all backgrounds to advance. In a heterogeneous country like the US, we certainly do see the type of racial stratification shown in the photos.

      Herbert Simon? If so, he was born around the time these guys were writing. Max weber took a big picture, bureaucratic approach.
    Fredrick Taylor took a micro level approach, Henry Fayol took a mid level managerial.
    They wanted a clear hierarchy that chained command, wanted some form of division of labor, standardised work approach, centralization of authority, separation of personal life and organization, wanted the best people in the right job.

    Checked on almost all of your videos and benefitted a lot by their rich contents in a precise manner. But I couldn't come across any video on Neo-classical thory or Hawthorne study of Elton Mayo & associates. Could you please upload a video on the aforementioned topic. Thanks in anticipation.

    I more wonder why the people had to dislike this?
    I mean this is a historical theory which tutor is well explained. So those people who dislike this, has to go back to the time history, in 80s and dislike the concept, and not here.
    Pheewww. These folks made my mood off to the track. 😏

    Dr. Lyon, Thank you for these videos. They are a great supplement to my IOP studies in college. I appreciate your simplified explanations of theories and ideas that are often very difficult to understand.
