This video was so packed full of awesome tips for looser, more expressive drawings. Also love the emphasis on having fun. There's so much pressure as an artist to make money and get likes and comments that you can forget the fun factor, and your artwork suffers in the end. This is a treasure trove of good advice and inspiration! Thanks Katie!
Thank you so much for such a lovely comment, I'm so glad it was useful for you! Having fun is the most important part of art, it encourages us to create more when we enjoy the process! Thanks for watching 🥰
I love watching this video Katie, your ducks bring a great deal of joy. I would love these turned into stickers I could decorate my sketchbook and palettes with 😊🥰😍🦆🦆🦆
Absolutely love this. I’m definitely going to try this. I’m very fortunate to live 10 minutes walk away from a nature reserve. Loads of wildlife including ducks 😊Thank you for this.
Great video as always 😄🩷 So many good tips in this video, I really struggle with drawing more loosely. But I’m definitely going to try your tips from this video, you make it look so easy. But I know it takes practice, it cool to see how fast you can draw. You don’t really need to do many details to see what you’re drawing, I think that’s one of the things I need to think about when trying to draw loose 😊
Thank you so much 🥰 I really hope you give it a try! I have had years of practice drawing to timers so I think that definitely helps but as you say, it's surprising how little details a piece needs! If I wasn't drawing to timers I'd end up adding more and more detail which is lovely sometimes, but this way is a great learning experience for what works without 🥰
It's so impressive how much you manage to achieve in 1min! My materials would fly all over the room I think! I definitely need to practice. Thanks for all of the tips!
You've nailed it with the looseness... simple lines, colours and retaining character...love it. You make it look so effortless but I guess that it's practice practice practice. I'm going to give it a go 🤞🤞🤞 thanks 👍
Your channel was recommended by Diane Antone Studio. I have been watercolor painting with various pencils for the past a year and a half. It is so nice to see your loose style on this video. Ducks are my favorite fowls to watch at the parks and ponds here in the U.S. Thank you for this challenge it was so fun to see you at work and play!
Thank you so much for coming over after Diane's very kind recommendation! So glad you enjoyed the video, thank you for watching! I love ducks too, they just have such wonderful and playful personalities 😄
Have just been watching Diane Antone on TH-cam this evening (May 21st ) and was so delighted when she spoke about you for quite a bit ! Wonderfully complimentary of your unique style of videos to encourage viewers to visit your great channel ! Seems like she is a fan ! Such a great compliment to you for her to recommend you …. if I may say so 🤩💕🤗 The video was shown on May 21st.
Aaah thank you so much Sheila, I watched Diane's video this morning and am so grateful for her kind words about my art 🥰 Such a wonderful thing to share my channel and shout me out 😄 Thank you for your support and letting me know! 🧡
Your ducks are lovely🦆💛 I do sometimes struggle to stay loose and end up obsessing over tiny details but I think I’m getting better after following some of your videos over on Patreon. I have started using timers more often to practice and it really does help, along with just getting some colour down without sketching outlines first. Thank you for always sharing such helpful tips Katie💛
Aaah thank you! 🧡 So glad that the Patreon videos are helping and that you're finding your way with the timers! It definitely takes some adjusting to but hopefully you're enjoying the process 🥰 Thank you so much for your lovely comment and support 💜
These are really good advice! I need to try to do quick sketches with a set time to help me simplify when I need to, because I am one of those who looooves working on the details for hours and sometimes it's too much hahaha Loved the video!😍
Thanks for this, Katie!! I have a question. I really want to be loose but I don’t feel super confident in my foundational art skills. I can draw a little but have a hard time with proportions, etc. do you feel like it’s important to work more on that first before trying to loosen up?
My pleasure, Tristen! That's a great question! For me I'd have to say probably not, especially because with my style and the art style I like, I prefer the wonkiness! I'm fine with proportions not being too precise as I think it can add extra charm and character. I think with things like portraits and figure drawing it can be helpful to know the basics and foundational skills with drawing them, but with most other subjects I think it doesn't matter so much! 🤗
Thank you so much, so glad you enjoyed! I'm using a Montana acrylic marker at that time stamp but it's a colour I mixed myself by adding in some of their blue refill ink into their standard pink marker! 😊💜
Really great video, Katie…as always ! Your suggestions and encouragement are very helpful indeed …thank you 🤩💕 Loved it. I have been considering the Pith Oroblanco sketch pad for quite a while……do you enjoy using it ?
Thanks so much, Sheila 🥰 I have a video on my channel where I review the Oroblanco which you might find helpful! I love the smoothness of the paper though I was a bit disappointed with how it handles very wet media! It works much better with either thicker paint or dry mediums. I test a lot of paint and supplies in the video if you'd like to see more 😊
Amazing tips as always, Katie! Much appreciated! ❤ Can't wait to put these into practice! My anxiety is terrible at times and it won't allow me to make as loose of sketches and drawings as I'd like 🙈 I'm hoping to achieve this level of looseness one day! It's quite lovely! And the ducks are soo cute! ❤ P.s. what's the green marker you used for the first duck? And what are some color markers of posca, ecoline and faber castell would you recommend for just basic animal and foliage drawings? Or someone starting out? Sorry for all the questions. Im trying to build up my art collection but cant afford to buy the big sets just yet 😅🙈
My pleasure, thank you so much! I understand, I do think practice and doing it lots does help and I hope your anxiety eases with it! 💛 I used a Faber Castell Albrecht Durer Watercolour Marker for the first duck, in Earth Green! I loooove the Beige posca, I use that one the most so that's a must-have for me! In terms of Tombows and Ecolines, I share my top five colours for those in my Ultimate Art Supplies video so I'll link that below! I don't have many of the Faber Castell Albrecht Durer ones but so far my favourites for nature drawings are the Earth Green and the Warm Grey III. Hope that helps 😊 Here's the link to the art supplies video! th-cam.com/video/gtxh3FcTcd0/w-d-xo.html

Those ducks are absolutely adorable.
Thank you so much 🦆🥰
The third duck at 3:34 is exquisite - it seems the first two were warm ups.
Thanks so much! I had a little longer on that one than the first ones which were just a minute, so that helped 😆
