One of the best outdoor gear reviews on the internet. I have been in the market for a feathered friend's jacket and this video was incredibly helpful. I hope you'll do more of these.
so you mean hanging around at CAMP..sounds good to me...COZY WARM is the right way to go..love this coat...the fill amount is a crap ton, that's for sure...i wanna try down pants one day ...great video bungz...
I’ve been subscribed for a many months, have gone back and watched almost every one of your videos, and always click the like button 👍🏼😊 Thanks for the videos, valuable info, and sharing your opinions and perspective. I hope you’ll be able to continue making vids. Be sure to do all that tagging keyword stuff. And maybe consider adding hashtags? Your videos are straightforward and not clickback, which I appreciate and applaud! However, there definitely is SEO stuff that can help. p.s. I would share on social but I quit social media a few years ago. Now, I’m just hooked on youtube 🤦🏼♀️😂 pro tip that may work that I heard years ago so not sure if still relevent: use a bunch or even a complete set of hashtags that are on a super popular video with similar content I know it sounds a little icky but what you are providing is not so I think it’s a legit way to try to boost views. It may make your video pop up as recommended under the video(s) with the sams tags idk, just an idea I’m not even sure if video tags are even still visible these days
This looks like a great fit. Can I ask, what is your height and what size is the jacket you bought that you are demonstrating with here in this video? Curious about their sizing. Thanks.
@@Bungzy Actually I am just slightly shorter than you and 170 LBS, so I am guessing I would have to go for the medium. Am 5'6. only concern is that the medium will be too small.
Hi Bungzy, thanks again for another great informative vid. Yep if you are not a thru hiker lots of relaxing around camp taking in the scenery, taking time to observe the details. Have been trying to find reviews of real camp jackets, and I agree those lighter ones do not take me down to low figures. Did you find the sizing ok?
I just bought one today, partially due to this review. I actually walked into the store with the intention to buy an Eos, but they only had 1 XL in the store. I tried the Helios and it was perfect. I’m 6’ and 165, a medium fits me well.
The only companies with down jackets comparable to Feathered Friends are Valandre in particular. Those two are generally better than all others. But a few jackets from Mountain Equipment UK, Mountain Harwear (not all their models are close), North Face ( literally only their Himalaya series), and thats about it. Generally in the mid weight 250-350 grams of fill Feathered Friends and Valandre and WAY better than anything else out their. But these companies do all make an expedition flagship model for climbing everest that is awesome. I will never pay for a stitch througn jacket tnough. They aren't even close to the warmth you get with these professional grade box baffles. That one great Everest jacket each brand makes are all awesome but that is how they get you with the branding lol. But who needs a -60 celcius Everest mummy jacket ? The mid to lower heavy weight is wear most people would actually want a down jacket for and its also wear most fail in their attempts at warmth in -20 celcius.
Wow, that thing is huge puffy! I did not realize FF made jackets. I find myself in exactly the category you mention, definitely going to take a close look at this one. Thanks for sharing. 🤓❄️
Sometimes a down jacket van be to warm. The weather that this jacket is good for calls for a longer parka style coat. For example my North Face is made this bulky but its so warm you can't wear above 20 degrees. At that temp you need to cover below the waist.
Hey Bungzy great review and very timely! I've been comparing down jackets for cold temperatures for weeks now. The Helios looks awesome and I was definitely considering it for a winter backpacking jacket, but do you have any experience with the Montbell Mirage Parka? This one doesn't seem to have as much down fill (5.3 oz) but it's supposed to be quite warm and it's 12.8 oz total. Curious of your thoughts, thanks!
Bungzy’s Ultralight Thanks so much for the detailed response. I hadn't really considered the length, but the points you made make a lot of sense. The Helios got bumped up on my list for sure, thanks again!
Feathered Friends products are awesome! For me, I had a custom jacket made by Ben at Goosefeetgear that is very similar to this. It was made as a zero degree jacket, and has not disappointed me in any situation. Super lightweight, extremely warm and puffy, and waterproof down with a DWR treated 8D fabric. Doesn't get much better that that... If you are careful with it.
@@Bungzy So far the jacket has not leaked any down with his new 8D fabric he is using. I've had it since August, and haven't been out in cold enough weather to need it a ton... So, time will tell the tale for sure though. I would imagine it will leak eventually somewhere.
They do have a hooded version! (I don't have one. Just noticed they sell them.) featheredfriends.com/collections/down-garments/products/feathered-friends-helios-hooded-down-jacket
What were you wearing on your head in those single-digit temps? Personally I can't imagine not going for the Hooded Helios if I was regularly hanging out in those kind of temps. For most of your UL viewers the FF EOS is a great 3 season choice for the Rockies or Sierra for those pushing the edges of the 3 seasons or who feel the cold more than average. It's considerably warmer than the GW but much lighter than the Helios.

If your videos weren't so thorough, there would be more questions in the comments section to please TH-cam.... Keep up the good work!
Dude! I've yet to watch someone address this very obvious use case. Praise and props.
I own this jacket also and I am very happy with it! I have some FF sleeping bags that are top quality too
Feathered Friends makes great quality gear. Thanks for the review!
have the helios jacket and pants - excellent
I second the Helios!

Yeah I agrre on that.. I just want to try them..
Brooks range alpini anorak has 7.7 oz down and weighs about 15oz total. Got one for $85 at campsaver on clearance. Helluva bargain
Really excited to hear about this jacket!! My greatest fear of my upcoming thru-hike is being cold.
Good one. Thanks!
Don't forget western mountaineering!
Great recommendation. I love mine!
Have you compared it to the EOS version that Feathered Friends has? Thanks
Very nice review! :D

I prefer a hybrid with only 10-20% down tops

Great channel and recommendation! I also like PHD clothing and gear from UK (no affiliation)
Good work. How best to clean the FF jackets?

Hi. Which size are you wearing? I am 6 feet, thin and not muscular. Which size would you recommend? How long are the sleeves? Thanks for the review!

@@SirDante619 could you tell me how long the sleeves of the medium model are? I have long arms.
I like you mate!

They’re now $469 😳 why? And how? 👀 I wish I could have gotten one before.
Wish they came with hoods. I thought I had found the perfect coat. Nice video.

Nice! Testament I guess to how warm the jacket is!
Thanks and sub’d
That’s more than double the weight of the ghost whisperer. Can’t imagine ever taking that jacket on a three season trip.
Your talking about 8 oz. geez how weak are you
Feeble
ITS A GEORGE CASTANZA JACKET!!!!!!
Bro! You look diesel in this jacket.
Does this jacket sufficiently cover your buttocks? Also how would you compare it to Montbell jackets.
Hem is too short, no hood and no internal drop pocket for gloves, electronics or water bottle. FAIL!
