    The simplicity of the video and the way you talk in that sofa are impressive.

      Thanks for watching, we’ve been working hard on our studio setup and our overall video style.

    Good that I found this video - I am using the myQ at the moment as well and looking into switching to something that fits into the Apple Home Universe. This here seems to be a nice fit. Thanks for sharing your experience!

    Of the hundreds of installation and DIY videos I’ve watched on TH-cam this is the first one I’ve intentionally seen done at night. In the dark. With the camera pointed at the installers back. While he mumbled. Good stuff

      Of all the commenters this is the first one I've seen that intentionally insults us instead of being constructive... Just kidding! TH-cam is full of these 😆

    Good stuff Josh. Gotta love Meross. You can't beat their prices too. Time to get some keys for your house bruh! (as a backup of course)

      We installed the Yale Assure Lock on the front door. We also just got a level lock touch in matte black, video coming soon!

    Question so if you have people over and they get your WiFi they can open and close the garage as well?

    Have you used homekit to automate or create a scene when you arrive home that the garage door opens? I have tried multiple ways and they all look right but the door never opens when i arrive. Any thoughts? Opener or homekit issue?

    How has the reliability been since the original install? Would you still recommend this product? I currently have a Insignia garage door opener in HomeKit and the reliability has gone from ok to horrible it the past year. Needless to say I am now in the market for a new HomeKit garage door opener but am concerned due to the fact that you have had to already reset it due to no wifi connectivity. Any long term info would be appreciated.

    Which HomeKit Camera are you also using with the Meross Garage Opener.

    I just installed this with my Genie opener (5 years old?) and it worked first time. I did not expect that. Like you, I had the Chamberlain/MyQ previously and didn't like it. I have much higher expectations for this. I really like the corded sensor vs. a battery-powered sensor. BTW, Thread would not be an advantage for this device since it is plugged into the house power. It would only be useful if it was a Thread router. That would be handy if you had Thread endpoints, say, right outside your garage.

    nice review - though after about 6mos, mine has now decided to open and close randomly after I initially click in the app to open/close it - seems to have started happening just after the firmware 'upgrade' too.... tried different settings including changing trigger duration - may have to reset it all and start from scratch, bleh

    How did you add to homekit I didn’t see a code or nothing to scan?

    I appreciate the overview and the review. Given the video title and the thumbnail, I was hoping for something more focused and detailed on the actual installation. I got the ‘gist’ of it - but I was looking for more. This isn’t me being critical, it is me giving (hopefully) constructive feedback.
    As this video is ~6 months old now - how has the unit held up? Has it been stable? Do you get a lot of ‘no response’ and/or the need to reboot the unit? I’ve been struggling with which one to buy for HomeKit. Thanks!

    • @OurAppleHome
      @OurAppleHome  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What questions did you have about the install?
      In all honesty, I have struggled with needing to reboot the unit. I have flashed the firmware several times, but it seems to just 'lose' it's network connection once in a while and I have to power cycle it.
      I still like this option better than the MyQ and I hope they fix the wifi stability at some point soon. They've mentioned it in the last two firmware updates and those have helped some.

    As of today August 23, 2022 Chamberlain has dropped support their HomeKit Smart Home Hub moving forward. They site lack of sales... This is the next best thing I guess... Thanks for this review.!!

    Is there a way to know if this will work with our current garage door brand before buying it? I know I had some issues pairing this garage door with my tundra. We have an old Genie 1/2 HP Screw Drive.

    • @OurAppleHome
      @OurAppleHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, meross has a step-thru wizard on their site, I think. You should be able to look at the questions and inspect your garage door and see if it will match up.

    Hi Josh/Brayden, thanks for the video. I have a few questions regarding the Homekit version as it works with the Apple Homekit framework. Can this version work similarly like the non-Homekit version? Once you have the network all tied in from the Meross garage device to your home network WIFI, can you get notification and remotely access the garage door remotely outside the range of your home network's WIFI range (ie: anywhere in this world)? In setting up the network between the device and your home network using the 2.4GHz 802.11n security, does it use WPA2-AES or does it use the weaker TKIP security pass key? Does the app also show the MAC address of the Meross device. I set up my router to only let in devices by MAC address only. Last question is, if the notification and remote access is sent across internet, is there a cloud service that relays the notification and remote access to and from the device through the ISP modem and then to your wireless router? This last question deals with the app and how it gets the notification and how it finds the device over internet when you're actually not connected your own home WIFI network.

    • @OurAppleHome
      @OurAppleHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. I have no idea how the non-HomeKit version works?
      2. Yes, I do seem to get notifications from Meross app when outside my network
      3. We don't have TKIP turned on, so I would assume it is using WPA
      4. Yes, the Meross app will show you the mac address, it should also be on the back of the device, I think.
      5. We are getting outside the realm of my understanding on the Meross device, I would assume it does hit some endpoint that Meross has exposed to send data to their servers, but that is mostly based on conversations with their support people.

    One thing I dont like about the Meross is that it can’t detect that I’m home and open the garage door automatically.. Myq does that.. to open with google assistant is 3 steps for me.. opening with a remote is 1 step.. it would be awesome to reduce that to zero steps if it knows im about to leave work or arrive from work.

    Just got one. Really like it but I only get the door closed notifications. Don't get any when it opens. Any idea what that could be?

    • @OurAppleHome
      @OurAppleHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What about HomeKit, do it show a proper open and closed status? I know there are some settings in the Meross app that you can try tweaking around open/close times, maybe that would help?

    • @pep729
      @pep729 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OurAppleHome I'm actually using it with Google home since I have an Android. I tried playing with the settings. Doesn't seem to make a difference. I've even uninstalled the app and reinstalled it. Ehomelife has an app that works with the meross too. Maybe I'll try that one.

    I want to use siri to control Meross but when I set it up siri says it needs a passcode set up? I don't have a passcode on my iphone and don't want one on it, is there a way around this?

    • @OurAppleHome
      @OurAppleHome  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am guessing you need a passcode because the garage is considered an entry, like a front door. All door locks require you to unlock a device before it will proceed with a Siri command to unlock them. I suspect that is why you need to set the passcode.

      It was pretty straight forward to install into the Home app, just scan the tag on the back and add.
