Ok but which type of hearts like the Technical over spectacle combat of kh 2. Or the Spectacle over technical combat of BBS, DDD, and kh 3 before remind.

I'd like to think the slow animations are because the one developer wants to see his animations thru and be sure they're all set before speeding it up.
even in double speed it still seems kinda slow, cool though
Animation satisfaction is a tricky thing to nail, speaking from the gamedev end,
Maybe that's a design element since he's blending kingdom hearts 1 and 2, and we know combat wasn't as fast in kh1
I think a big part of that is the particle effects and timing from starting an attack to hitting. A trick that other games use to give that sense of impact is to speed up the overall animation, and slow it down when you hit something. That bit of 'hit lag' is what makes Smash Brothers have that satisfying weight to it. Because currently its a bit floaty, which is good for the air combat but not the best for grounded attacks. Though even just adding a knock back animation to defeated enemies before they disappear will give that extra umph to finishers.

I would love to see a Kingdom hearts like game where you can go to the different mythologies like Greek or Norse.
Greek is possible, Norse not so much since there is no world with that mythology.

P.S. To everyone commenting on the slow attack animations. He did say that he is only half way through Pre-production. So, there is still plenty of time to make adjustments. Let the man cook!
I want to make a Heartslike game too. It’s tied into a bigger story I’ve been writing for decades atp. Hope to make it as far as this guy has.

Fun fact, Nomura originally wanted platforming in Kingdom Hearts 2, he also wanted all the Organization XIII members to be bosses in the Olympus Coliseum. But due to time constraints, it never happened....until Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix was created. During the development, he had a second chance to use his scrapped ideas. He wanted to include the Organization XIII bosses. But instead of putting them in the Olympus Coliseum, he decided to create a whole new area to explore to access the bosses. That being, Cavern of Remembrance. Even Nomura realized the lack of platforming and puzzle solving in the original Kingdom Hearts 2. There were even a few platforming and puzzle solving in 358/2 Days, and even in Re:Coded. They weren't as good as in Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2. But the platforming and puzzle solving were there.
i've been following the development of this game semi-closely for a while now and man it has me excited!!! it being a solo dev project probably means it's a far distance from being finished but let me tell you, copying the game feel of Kingdom hearts is no easy feat and this guy, based on the footage alone has managed to NAIL it!

Just played and discovered this 2 days ago, you are fast at both discovering video ideas and making them, haha
Some of these visuals make me think of one of my favorite classic RPGs Dark Cloud
I really hope that now that the kids who grew up with KH and are getting into game dev will allow a "hearts-like" genre to become a more common thing cause i've always wanted more games with a similar feel
It's cool how much they've managed to nail the KH feeling, but I do hope that they are able to stand out in their own way by the time it's released. I want to see how people can evolve the formula, rather than just imitate. My biggest hope out of this is that they play around with the ability system a bit. the numbered KH games can very quickly turn into equipping every ability you can, because you can. I hope that we get more unique abilites that would actually force us to think about what we want equipped, and even experiment with some combo modifies that feel different. I really just want this game to actually have the RPG feeling that some KH games lack.

Takes place in Agrabah? Yup, it's Kingdom Hearts. Seriously though, the combat seems about as slow as KH1 Sora which is fine, though I personally would have preferred more of a KH2 feel but that's just subjective personal preference, of course this could change as you get more combat abilities, it certainly did in KH2. This really does look great.

That Agrabah esque world just makes me wish KH2 Agrabah took place at night time to feel closer to Return of Jafar (or just the night time scenes of the movie in general) lol, would have made that revisit more worth it

If you think about it , a lot of today's jrpgs take inspiration from Kingdom hearts. There's tons of jrpgs that use the combat system that kingdom hearts has had since it's inception and even final fantasy now is more like kingdom hearts than final fantasy. Really makes you think how far , far ahead Kingdom hearts 1 was ( still my favourite in the series )

"Hearts like" i love that name. I always called these games "free flow" before that even was a term in DDD.

The fact that this game is very inspired by Kingdom Hearts is great especially since we all wait for KH4.
I also have Prince of Persia vibes from this project
As long as the story and bosses are good this game has already gotten me to buy it with how amazing it already is

I think what I’d love to see, not that any small developers is going to be able to get the rights. But a dreamworks/universal heartslike would be amazing. Lemme see shrek, coraline, how to train your dragon ice age ect…

Desperately? This guy's doing it alone or with a small team. Game development takes time and a long time at that. Instead of saying someone needs to desperately do something why don't you offer to help?
@@FrostDJakki3529 I wasn't being mean. That was my help. Speed up animations. I admire small dev teams and hope to one day do what they do. I would want someone who understands game design to do something similar to what I had said for me.

A main character with a scimitar doing parkour across the middle east also kinda reminds of Prince of Persia.
Replacing the Heartless with Djinn is actually pretty genius*, because you dive into the mythological aspects of them in both Islam and pre Islamic paganism, they can be quite diverse.

I feel like the combat is a bit more kh1 vs 2. Its a bit more like slower in terms of feel and swing speed. Personally im more a fan of kh2 combat, but other than that. Its looks great.
Someone will make a Sora mod, I'm sure of it.
I find it funny that there's all these games coming out with heavy influences from other games and then they get shit on for being "rip-offs" examples being Palword or Enchanted Portals being rip-offs of pokémon and Cuphead respectively.
And then here comes luminous nights being praised when it's literally kingdom hearts without disney or keys
IM NOT COMPLAINING. I just find it interesting that since there actually seems to actually be heart in this and the fact that kingdom hearts is pretty specific style and there are almost no games like it, people are completely chill with it and fine it fine.
I'm super excited to see how this game comes out, though I am pretty concerned on what Square Enix might do if it gets too popular.
Like Bomb Rush Cyberfunk feels so different from Jet Set Radio, but this is LITERALLY kingdom hearts with a pallet swap.

I hope at some point the animations become a bit faster. As is the footage looks like the character is swinging their sword underwater
This might as well been a decompilation of the original kingdom hearts games with a new coat of paint, just with a completely new story and characters…
Which is where people like myself are probably getting confused thinking whether independent developers are running out of actual original ideas and making games that are either based on or even inspired by something that already exists in some way or another!

As others have mentioned, the animations makes this game feel like it's on constant slow mode and a bit floaty. Like how KH1 slows down after dealing the final blow of a boss fight. If this can be fixed I'd be very very interested, but in its current form I don't think I could stand playing it.
This developer should watch their backs because Square Enix might not have a problem with this Hearts-Like type of video game but Disney is on a warpath when it comes to properties they are linked to. Yeah, there isn't Disney characters but when has it stop Disney from cause havoc on anyone that would eat their lunch.

Another influencial game that somehow takes about TWENTY YEARS for projects to come around. It made more sense when the industry slept on Wario Land 4, Kingdom Hearts is an ongoing series and STILL hasn't been meaningfully imitated until now.

"Lumen - Os" is... a way to pronounce it, I guess? "Lumen - Us" is much more common. Either way, the game looks really cool, thanks for profiling it.
Warning/advice :to the developer : trying to port all by yourself the final release of your indie, 3D game, (which is very ambitious and impressive in terms of graphical quality and gameplay depth and diversity) on smartphones would be some HUGE mistake and a definitive financial loss. There are reasons why there is not a single (as far as I know) 3D action-platformer with elaborated combat system on the mobile market : touch controls are way too restrictive and primitive for that kind of gameplay thus aren't suited to provide an actually fun and satisfying gaming experience in those genres...
I watch some of his developer live streams when he does them.
Just make the animations a little snappier, and I would pay *money* for this!!
