I bought a 2010 Malibu LT 2.4L with 130,000 miles on it at a "Buy as is" dealer and it's been real good to me I have drove it from Illinois all the way to Colorado with no issue. I replaced a few worn out stuff on it myself since I don't know the history of the car like spark plugs, battery, and I did a radiator flush and oil change before traveling. such a smooth ride and very comfortable.
I've had the LTZ v6 2010 Malibu for over 5 years now. After about 65,000 miles, I've had a few problems with it overheating. I had to fix a few things last summer and changed the cooling fans last week. But, it still drives pretty smoothly and doesn't cause too much trouble. So, if you're looking for a car that'll last, I've already passed the 100,000 mile "milestone" and it's still doing great! I recommend it.
My mom had one of these for a little while and I remember being in love with it. I've been considering it as a first car mainly because it's nice, has good mpg, usually low miles when you buy used, and it is in my budget. It's between a 2010 Malibu or 2010 Charger right now.
Megan Canuto go with the Malibu for sure. Much better on gas, the tan/cocoa interior is nice, back seat has a ton of room, huge trunk, and the V6 Malibu’s are actually faster than Chargers
My daughter bought a 2010 brand new . I bought it from her at 90,000 miles and it runs like a dream still at 172,00. It had a lil break work that’s it. ,
I´m the proud owner of a black Malibu 2010. It´s really fast and the acceleration is really amazing!! Probably you´ll say "this guy is a fkng lier", but believe me, the other day a Porsche could not pass me in a highway (we were driving at 210 km/h!!!)
This is a fantastic car i would love to have one i had this as a rental car went over 500 miles one tank of gas. I love the smooth quiet ride and excellent 6 speed automatic. The controls are very intuitive, gauges are perfect and have great contrast. All these good attributes should carry over to the new redesign.
Great review. I actually am purchasing the LT this week hopefully with 55K miles. Same exact colors shown in this video. I was happy about the way it drives and all the options that are included. I do not like the way the paddle shifters are orientated and it definitely would've nice to include a rear seat arm rest. In another vehicle I own one paddle is for up and the other down....but anyway, love this car and hope I get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
had this car for 4 years.. Transmission failed after 115k miles and then another was installed and that one failed after 135k miles this particular model was very pleasing to the eye but had to let it go because it was giving me to many problems :-(
@mpgomatic I own one of these and the night shift lever works great it has a 6 axis rear view mirror and my 6'3" frame likes that I can adjust it high and out of the field of view in front of the car. great review I avg 29 mpg at 65 k
@thelifeofsimon I agree. I think the solution is the chrome grill, some HID headlights and foglamps, just enough to distract ya from the front ends shape
I bought a used 2010 Malibu just last week. I mistakenly left my interior lights on and had to get a jump. Now I have no sound to my radio and no sound to my blinkers. I am so frustrated what can I do?
Haha, Dan, I love what you did with your fingers when you said the cars name. :D Pretty quick for a little I-4. I really enjoy that interior, it seems gorgeous on here, can only imagine how it is to be there. Awesome review as usual, thanks Dan! :D
@CoolLarkin I don't recall a glare problem with the Malibu's rear view (it's been a while), but driver position might be a factor: height, distance from mirror, seat adjustment, stuff like that. I drive everything at night. Just got done shooting some sunset stuff, about to go for a spin in a few. :) Need to find a camera setup for shooting in low light ...
@flatblackstrat Malibu Hybrid = stop/start, for the most part. That technology should be available in most cars before long. GM was focused on OnStar for too long. (I'd reckon that's what kept nav systems out of so many of their vehicles for so long.) While I've grown to appreciate OnStar, paying a subscription fee changes the value equation for a lot of folks. The 2010 Malibu lacks a fancy nav/interface, but that can be considered a cost-savings, too.
this was the best looking, best featured most affordable car ive found for my personal needs and i am so getting one :) love it....practical and affordable
Nice review. I had this model and color in my hands this past Wed, but I couldn't get passed the rear room. Roomy up front tho, but with a baby seat in back, little tight on long trips. Plus I'm coming from a 2006 Avalon. Can't beat that room may just wait to get a 13 year model. Nice ride tho for a 4cyl.
The rear seats are not very supportive either. I had back pain after spending a few days riding in the back of a rented 2010 Malibu. Still, much better than what I was expecting. Smooth and quiet, with good power from a four cylinder. The interior was clean and simple, easy to operate controls, and I loved the steering wheel with a clean design, without an array of buttons. I'd love to buy one of these.
@marcvie9 i agree with you. i just totaled my car so i rented this one. i think the rear looks so cool but when you start eyeing up the car the front looks stupid as hell with that V grill.
Hey Dan, so what did you think about this compared to the hybrid version.... they get similar numbers dont they. Also This car has no option for any sort of navigation system right? It seems like a good car, and interior quality and design seem to be pretty good, but do you get the feeling that this is lagging a bit behind when it comes to technology when compared to other makes on the market?
Hey Dan, have you driven this one at night? I heard the rear view mirror catches the glare of car's headlights perfectly from my friend who had it as a rental car. I just want to know if you experienced this too? thanks
My only issue with the new malibu is the outward visibility from the side and rear is VERY limited, as well as with the recent impalas. I cant see out the back end of my either my sisters 'bu or my moms impala. The malibu I blame the thick c pillars and fast rear window. and the Impalas on the GINORMOUS full sized center headrest and fast rear window.
@giannial1985 Fusion has 175hp, not 171 :) Still, I don't think the malibu fails with just a deficit of 6 horsepower compared to the Fusion. You would hardly notice that while driving. Both are good cars.
@eskimochild87 HAhahah, *Camry, and if it competes with the Camry and Accord, two companies that are known for dependability and quality, then why is GM still rated so low, especially from Consumer Reports. Don't get me wrong they are getting better they don't have a choice, GM needed to get ahead of Toyota, then that's where the accelerator conspiracy comes in. But even then the part was built in the US. UAW, does not take pride in their work like the Japanese do.
@MADDOG6400 Um... That is the point of all new cars.... To absorb said impacts during accidents. Should check out the Chevy Malibu vs Chevy Bel Air video to see why...
I have 2012, but the brakes are real weak. Takes to long to stop the car. The car is a week old. I wonder if they wil get better with more miles. BTW, I test drove two models with stronger brakes.
Chevy Malibu are terrible .. Them cars are Heavy and they are gas guzzler ..pain to change headlights, interior is mostly hard plastic just another cheap chevy product
@racewithferrari Hahaha, their were only 2 real car makers back then Ford and Benz and neither one ever built anything that looked like this. I bet you bought an old Fiero and thought it was a Ferrari and that's what you race with.

@desimunda116 We reviewed the Civic Hybrid, but not the Si.
It has a 16 gallon gas tank ... multiply that by whatever you're paying for regular in your town ... Bone dry, 16 gallons times $3.50 a gallon = $56.
Gas 10 years later is almost 4$ a gal where I'm from.
