Hey taz, if you're a texture oriented person on food, you should try indonesian food, "bawang goreng" is like fried shallots that could be an addition to any meal with rice, and try the "krupuk" crackers that could be eaten as a snack, or with rice, and with "sambal" ofc (a kind of spicy chutney or sauce), it's like our bread and butter If you are already used to indian food, a lot of indonesian food may feel like home, we have curry like "padang food" and whole list of vegetarian options like "gado gado", "gudeg" and "tempe" Although as a someone who has tried and cooked indian food before i think it's a lot more savory than spicy if compared to indian food, P.S. i wont say it's healthy, it's really good hahaha

I learned this recipe from a Japanese TH-camr: adding a little bacon in the miso soup, it blew my mind. I like to fried the bacon till the oil comes out and add the miso paste and mix it together with the bacon first before adding water and veggies like potatoes, bean sprouts, tofu, green onion. Maybe thats why I never think miso soup as fishy cos mine always taste rich and smoky.
They suggested that for the "umami", especially from naturally occurring MSG that certain foods make once cooked, for that flavor. Bacon is just a quick way to do it since bacon is usually cured with things like celery powder, etc... so bacon itself will have some "umami" infused in it. But usually you'd use some thick dried kelp called kombu, anchovies and/or dried fish flakes, dried mushrooms (usually shitake) and you boil it for a long time. Some people might add other things into the dashi stock (my mom likes to add shallots & white onion). Then you strain all that stuff out so you have your liquid soup base/stock, and that's your base for the soup to add your tofu, etc.

makes me a lil sad knowing how much more you would have actually enjoyed and appreciated Japanese meals had you actually prepared them correctly :(
there’s a chance she would dislike them tho, just a small chance
I was honestly thinking the same :( Missing so much umami and nuanced ingredients and cooking methods. Because I really wanted her to taste it like it was authentic mom's home cooking, and see how she enjoyed it in that way. But she tried her best.
Yakult is Japanese. Was founded in Japan in 1935. Also nice video c:
I love how she’s talks about her trauma with dairy
Taz's videos are what get me through quarantine
I also have that “texture problem” with tofu, also with gelatin, yogurt Idk even if I like the flavor, the texture just really throws me off 🙃
Taz is getting more and more adorable by the day.
Wow! I love fish but not sure if I'd like to eat it everyday of the week 😂 Well done for sticking to it! x
For once some of these foods i actually recognise and like even though i’m not Japanese and it’s interesting to see Taz’s reactions to tastes i actually know.
Taz you should try traditional Indian and Bengalee foods for 24 hours ❤️❣️❣️
me watching this while enjoying my fish-based miso soup 😂😂😂
I appreciate how hard you've tried to stick to the list!! I have been to those Japanese supermarket in London and I know it wouldn't have been easy! 😭
