  • What is Amplification as a rhetorical device? Join the Society's Governess as she walks you through a speech from a 1972 Aristorators Symposium in which Amplification was used to condemn the satsuma as a fruit one would never wish to crush between the buttocks, owing to the parlous risk of attack by chimpanzees.
Aristorators is a content creator focused on encouraging meaningful debates of meaningless subjects. Follow for more content on public speaking, our game, and example speeches of meaningless subjects.
We also have a whimsical silly comedy debating game for 4 or more players, designed to ensure a fun evening for everyone. Download on www.aristorators.com. If we get enough interest, we can launch a kickstarter.
    Subtitles (and opening definition):
"What is Amplification as a rhetorical device? Amplification is the act of repeating something that has already been said, while adding more details or exaggeration to the original description. Take this example from an Aristorators debate on which fruit you would be most capable of crushing with your buttocks.
'And what if there was one, two, three, a family, nay a very colony of violent, starving chimpanzees in the immediate area? Would a satsuma be sensible?'
In this situation, what you can see is that the use of one followed by two followed by three, moving up to a colony increases the sense of fear in the listener. That listener is having the experience of amplification. That means by the time the discussion of violent, starving chimpanzees comes around, it is quite clear that the fruit in question is not one that you would want to crush with your buttocks due to this impact of chimpanzees, despite the speaker not even knowing what the chimpanzees are going to do. I don't really have much else to say. I hope that amplification is clear and that oh grand and learned society does constitute the insights that I commend to the House."

I'll have to recommend this game to one, two three, no a whole colony of friends!

You honour us! Thank you for your comment. And what if you were to watch, like, share and comment on not one, nor two, but in fact a whole cluster of our videos! Would we then be worthy of a subscription?

Thank you for watching and commenting! Maybe effective debating is the activity that happens in society's dreams. In which case, we need to spread the word wider. Please subscribe, like, share, watch other videos, comment, and generally spread the word!

I like the editing style but the audio keeps fading in and out volume-wise

If this didnt have audio issues and was shorter it would go viral in 6 years

On the audio issues, please feel free to check our other videos and advise whether we have audio issues on those as well. Our sound engineer is a rat and is also self-trained, which carries some limitations on quality. Even if our hearing is technically better than a human.
For a shorter version, please look in our shorts. By this we mean the TH-cam Shorts Playlist - not our shortened trousers.
We have set a calendar reminder for 12 February 2030 to see how far we are from going viral, and instigate a lessons learnt process.

I think the length of the video is just fine tbh

@@charliekelly735 Yes i personally totally agree with you, also I liked the video. However, if it were to go viral at some point in the far future it would have to be shorter cause thats sadly the trend youtube is going after. They are favortising short form over long form content (which is a real tragedy imo)
Anyways, dont let my previous comment influence you too much, create as you want with your own artistic creativity, dont chase the views!

Your comments are still valued. We're pushing out some shorts as well, but we think these long form offer a little more richness. We really appreciate your engagement!

    wtf is a satsuma?

    • @aristorators
      @aristorators  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

It's a soft peel citrus fruit. Similar to a mandarin or clementine. Like a sweet, small, loosely clustered orange.
Some people believe that if having to crush fruit with your buttocks, a satsuma is a strong choice. Others feel differently. It's been controversial for years.
