I hate to break this to you but the only entity actually racing in that video was David. April thought she was just playing a game. In a real race, she'd be at the finish line before he gets out of his drive phase. When she's looking at him, it's actually not because she's being competitive, she's looking to him for direction to see what he wants her to do. GSDs do that when they run with a human. They won't try to actually beat the human or race past the human unless trained to do so or offered a different incentive. If he'd have slowed down, so would she. They always modify their speed according to the human. The only way to get her to run top speed is to have her chase something. If you were in the back of a pickup, she'd chase you in a pickup and wouldn't care what David is doing. That's how you'll see her true speed. Fun video, but nowhere near accurate given the temperament of GSDs.

I actually was considering buying a Belgian Malinois. They are pretty cool Dogs as well and I believe their gene pool is a lot more diverse. For instance because April is military bred she has a lot of allergies. Dogs with a more diverse gene pool have a lot less issues

You cant even beat a dog for endurance. Dogs or wolves are stamina hunters, they catch their prey by running it until it drops.! Think of a husky they can pull a sled for miles without tiring. How far can you pull a loaded sled before you fall on your ass.!
Great video, I love the slow motion parts, as a dog owner I have great respect for dog reflexes and abilities. Yes dogs have four legs and worry free minds, they live in moment. We as humans don't and only two legs. But watching this human-dog competing video with great music in the background made my day. I think April is trying to figure out what this game is all about. But this is also a reminder how close we were with dogs for thousands of years. I like to think I see some appreciation in April's eyes when she gets up looks at David and runs. They both would be great hunting companions if sprint was switched into long distance. I am going to check the music out🙂

Fatima Ghous lol its not all true though, just because one greyhound can go faster than a whippet doesn't mean that all greyhounds are faster. I agree in long distance a healthy greyhound can beat a whippet but in short distance whippets have a pretty good chance!

I actually was considering buying a Belgian Malinois. They are pretty cool Dogs as well and I believe their gene pool is a lot more diverse. For instance because April is military bred she has a lot of allergies. Dogs with a more diverse gene pool have a lot less issues

I'm pretty sure April enjoyed that video. At first she didn't know what was going on but as soon as she twigged you could see her eyes light up.
For sure, the first Run she was still figuring things out, but after that it was game on for her, I truly don't think she was giving it all she had, but I know how to set that up to get everything out of her, that's going to be another episode.

Great video, I love the slow motion parts, as a dog owner I have great respect for dog reflexes and abilities. Yes dogs have four legs and worry free minds, they live in moment. We as humans don't and only two legs. But watching this human-dog competing video with great music in the background made my day. I think April is trying to figure out what this game is all about. But this is also a reminder how close we were with dogs for thousands of years. I like to think I see some appreciation in April's eyes when she gets up looks at David and runs. They both would be great hunting companions if sprint was switched into long distance. I am going to check the music out🙂

I think you standing at the finish line was a mistake, because the dog was slowing down before the line. You should have been standing some distance back from the finish line.
You are right, but I was mainly focusing at the first 30 feet or so. Next time I will make sure to do it that way
