Fallout 5 Location?!?!?!?! 5 Cities That Would Make GREAT Wastelands for Fallout 5!!!

  • Hello there, friends. Today I will be offering my 2 cents on what cities I think would make great locations for Fallout 5. Even though, there has not been an official announcement from Bethesda for the next Fallout I thought it would be interesting to delve into some places I think would be a blast to visit in the Fallout universe. I found a lot of other TH-camrs talked about the lore of different cities, but part of what made Fallout 3 so fun to explore was that we were in DC and we got to see the Washington monument and the Pentagon and so many other amazing locations. I get into what makes these cities dope in real life and how that translates into kick-ass places to explore. I do talk about the lore that is available about each city, but I also talk about the city themselves, their culture, their history, and how all of that can work well in a Fallout wasteland.
I'm going to be making more videos discussing various topics on gaming going forward, maybe on GTA VI, and who knows what other topics might come up that I could decide to offer my 2 bit 2 cents on.
    Enjoy the video!

I think a fallout game in Washington/Seattle would be really cool because west Seattle is almost already a raider camp with the chems and rads and everything. But also because Washington has a very diverse ecosystem in present day and I'm curious how the radiation would effect it.

If they did the Seattle area, they can have a version of Boeing and lots of military bases here in the northwest. Also they could have Anchorage as a DLC kinda like point Lookout. I don’t see how Anchorage could be a whole Fallout game but I’ve never been there.

New Orleans has been at the top of my list for a new Fallout location for a long time. As a city, it's got tons of distinctive architecture and locations, it has a rich mix of cultural references and history to pull from, and the surrounding terrain - southern swamps, forests, and waterways - are something that could build on the work they did in Fallout 76 (the Mire).

  • @psychedelllica

I always thought that it would be super cool to see a Fallout game set in South Dakota, specifically West river. There are so many historic landmarks that could make for really awesome settlements. Deadwood could be similar to New Vegas with a theme of gambling but to a much lesser extent, Custer state park could be overridden with wildlife and irradiated monsters, and there could be a Vault behind Mount Rushmore where the secret chamber is, or alternatively, a post-war settlement built off of/ inside the heads of the Mount Rushmore figures.
I also think it would be a great opportunity to give representation to Native cultures considering our large Indian population and diversity of tribes. I think it would be really awesome if those cultures survived and even thrived in a post-apocalyptic world. The relationship/enduring conflict between Indian and white settlers could be a very interesting background plot if anyone dared to touch it. I feel like people who don't live in South Dakota and who aren't surrounded by reservations don't have to face the full extent of how horribly white people have wronged Indigenous people, and really digging into that history and putting a spotlight on that enduring tension in the next Fallout game could bring a lot of attention to the racist culture that is so prevalent in South Dakota towards Native Americans.
That's pretty heavy stuff though, so here's a rapid-fire of all the cool spots you could hypothetically go to in a SD Fallout game:
Elsworth Air Force Base (yay airplanes), Keystone (the train looks cool make a sidequest out of it) , Sylvan Lake (douse it with radiation and giant monsters), Bear Butte (I don't care what science says it's a volcano bitch), any of the caves or mines, any of the reservations, Cosmos (Its a spot where gravity gets all fucky wucky, it's not cool in real life but make it cool in the game lol), Reptile Gardens (Irradiated ginormous alligators? hell yeah), Crazy Horse, and Corn palace 1880s town or the Badlands if you feel like going more East.
Aesthetically it's there. South Dakota can be very beautiful, but at times it's already a goddamn wasteland.
In conclusion, South Dakota is filled to the brim with history, culture, and just cool shit. Make Fallout: Black Hills Bethesda, it would be hot.

Somewhere in Alsaska is my choice.
Large areas that are basically free of radiation (since its like 300 years post war, have a recovering landscape this time but with like 10-20 HIGHLY irradiated pockets (like the glowing sea). Maybe one radiation storm that roams the map constantly and we learn mid-late game it's from a leaking Submarine going up and down the coastline.
We get a bunch of military bases and ruined Chinese/American towns, plus the newly built ones that act like a goldrush style frontier settlement system.
    - It gives us the Chinese remnants (they had occupied the land for like 20 years) who can act like the Enclave (High tech but antagonistic to basicallly everyone).
    - It gives us the Canadians who could act like the NCR Canada is basically all in a 100 km belt along the border, lots of land for people to rebuild post war).
    - It lets us have a LEgion/Raider style group since Alaska has a pretty big border.
    - We can have some kind of sea faring faction.
    - We get a minutemen style local defense faction.
    - Post war remnants that can act like the BoS
-We can have a Vault Tec base that functions like House/Institue.
    - We could have Japanese robot faction.

Personally, I'd love to see a Fallout game take place in the Midwest. Specifically in the Omaha/Lincoln area. Most games tend to take place near the east and west coasts, so this leaves the midwest unexplored. Plus, if we had a game take place in the midwest, we could possibly delve a bit more into some BOS lore, as we know a brotherhood expedition force lost contact in the area near SAC. Throw in interesting locations like the air and space museum, and Offutt air force base, and I think we could have a bit of fun.

I'm definitely in favor of a game set in Minnesota and the Twin Cities as well. That would be awesome! And ofc a proper game set in Chicago would be fascinating.
While there are military bases in every state (thanks Congress 😑), I'm of the opinion that the Midwest would be hit by a lot less nukes than the rest of the country - largely because there's not that much here of strategic value. It could be interesting to explore an area that was largely untouched by the bombs, but instead suffered primarily from social collapse. Well, that wouldn't include Chicago as it being the 3rd largest US city would definitely make it a prime target. WI, MN, and Upper MI would be a fascinating place to explore as a lot of it is just woods and oh gods, the snow!
If we get a Fallout in WI, MN, Upper MI, please please please give us proper seasons! I need to see the massive snowstorms! Same thing with ND/SD - the blizzards should be massive and unrelenting! Sigh, but that would probably require... Let's just say I don't think Bethesda's engine and programmers are up for the job as of yet.

One big problem with a New Orleans setting is that it would flood, as the only thing preventing it flooding right now is a network of dykes holding the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico out. The Mississippi River is trying to shift its banks even today, held in place artificially by those aforementioned dykes that would need regular maintenance or they will burst.

I think Denver or Dog Town as it was called in Van Buren would be a great location for the next Fallout game! There is some interesting pre-establish lore to the region that put Denver in the middle of Legion territory. The city also has many unique landmarks. I think it would be really cool if the player first emerges from a vault underneath the Denver airport and let's not forget about the Cheyenne Mountain Complex just outside the city they could definitely do some cool with that in the next game!

I’m a huge literature nerd, and I always thought a really fun concept for a Fallout game would be one that takes place in and around Tornado Alley. You could start off in Kansas in a similar way to Fallout 4, being whisked away by a nuclear bomb just to land in a wasteland with superficial resemblance to the world of the Wizard of Oz years in the future. From there, you might head to Tulsa where an ongoing gang war between the Greasers and Socs is gripping the city, to the Cuckoo’s Nest where the population is controlled by the autocratic Nurse Ratched, to Insmouth where fish-like super mutants reign supreme, or to Hannibal where bounty hunters Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer are trying to clean up the local river pirate problem.

My idea that im surprised not too many people seem to mention is Miami (or southern Florida in general).
    1) the main city could have a really cool vice city theme with the pink and blue which would really stand out. Would be great for marketing. I can visualize the logo now "Fallout 5: Miami" in pink/blue neon.
    2) variety of settings. Theres the city of course, lots of beaches, ocean, Everglades, the florida keys, forests, etc.
    3) proximity to Cuba and Bahamas. Imagine how cool it'd be if there was a pirate-like faction based out of the Bahamas and a communist one out of Cuba that idolized Castro (like the Kings with Elvis or the Legion with Julius Caesar).? There are so many things they could build the story around. The main story of the game practically writes itself.
    4) like with your New Orleans example, it would have lots of animal options that make sense like massive alligators, snakes, turtles, panthers, bears, bobcats, etc
