This is a great reel that I have been fishing with for almost a year. I have the 4000 with 20lb paired up with either a med or med heavy rod.
Only chronic problem that I have with the reel is the pin on the drag clicker getting stuck, as Tony mentioned. I believe it maybe due to the light spring wire between the needle.
Overall, I love the reel and recommend it.

Hey Tony..how is it going? Very interesting video with lots of info .
I've been looking for a salt water reel for a while now , narrowed it down to the nasci and the daiwa fuego . After seeing your review , I'm now edging towards the shimano .

I've been using this reel in the 1000 size in Sydney. The only thing that I don't like about it is that there's no reverse switch. But like you said, the benefit is that water can't get inside the reel through the switch.
Other than that, I've had no issues at all. I love this reel.

The handle iron bent a little. I didnt notiche how. But i use it now for 3 years 2 sessions a week, its still very very smooth . Im astonished. Now ive ordered the Shimano Nasci.

I've got 5 nacis, 2500-5000. I don't own two of any other reel. I see the bigger sizes for about $100-$-&110 here. Never seen any of them priced at $200. I use my 4000 and 5000s from the jetties. Third season now. Running like new. I've oiled and greased them once. I like them better than the BGs. Or any other reel in that price range.

I have a 2500 and have been very pleased with it. I also have a Penn Clash 2500 and put them head to head. The Nasci is definitely smoother but the Penn feels more “solid”. I know that’s difficult to quantify, but I don’t know how else to put it. The nasci has caught a lot of fish and never failed me. Even some 6lb+ bass were easily caught. Sometimes it’s just a confidence thing I suppose. The Penn has some 28”+ redfish and been flawless. I’d buy either one again today.

I own three Nasci 4000's and love them ..but..
The Nasci 4000 is sized more like a 3000 or some 2500 size reels
Compared to the Daiwa BG 3000 wich is closer to same physical size as Nasci 4000 , there is no real difference in weight .
BG HAS a metal frame and more bearings too.
The Nasci does have a higher max drag , although that number (25lbs) seems pumped up.
I use the Nasci 4000 and BG 3500 & 4000 weekly and although the Nasci is notably lighter when first picking up the rod (St Croix 7' & 7'6" tidemaster) I don't feel any fatigue worth talking about after a full day fishing lures .
The BG reel foot is a little nicer than the Nasci. Those with small hands should be fine with the Nasci but I concluded that the way the BG foot meets the reel seat ..it is much more comfortable .
If shopping either ..or any spinning reel , put it on the rod you are going to use it on and see for yourself ( always smart when shopping reels)
Both very nice , BG is stronger , has more bearings and is very comfortable in the hand all day.

1 Sky Sport fishing thank you for taking the time to leave the awesome feedback! Rod balance is definitely a big factor. If I went with a BG in comparison to the Nasci I would go with a 2000 or 2500.

Mark YremogtnoM definitely. Especially if you don't want to drop $200+ on a stradic. For $100 it competes very well for the price and has held up very well in the salt. I marked 75 yds across my yard pull the line out and cut it. Then I put 75 yds of braid on the spool (bottom ) then I tie an Albright knot to the desired size mono filler and fill the reel to the point that I feel it will cast best. Then reverse it and it is perfectly filled. You can fill 2 reels this way with one spool of braid !!!! It sounds like a lot of work but its well worth the effort.PS- This only applies to my 2500-3000 size reels for inshore for red fish and speckled trout fishing. > ~

Mike Pound as others stated you can use more mono backing to fill the spool, which can be trial and error to dial it in to the right amount. I always buy 300yd spools of power pro to fill 2 reels, filling the void with mono backing. They sell 300yd spools at Academy Sports and Outdoors for $20. Can't beat that price compared to a $12-$15 spool of 150yds.

I had this reel in the 2500,took it back didn't like it when reeling slow it seemed heavy like the gear was draging, got a Shimano Sahara 2500 cheaper and alot better reel with 20lbs of drag. Also upgraded to carbonex drag washers because I caught 8 bullreds one night and the felt washers were messed up bad.

    • @kaobrie2
      @kaobrie2 5 ปีที่แล้ว

The Sahara and the Nasci are the same reel, part for part. The Nasci adds rubber seals/gaskets (core protect) to help keep water and dirt out of the internals. The Nasci "should be" more corrosion and wear resistant. It is possible that one of the seals in your original reel was damaged or misaligned.
