  • Oakland Athletics' fans made their message clear at Tuesday night's game in front of nearly 28,000 strong at the Coliseum for the "reverse boycott." The organized event showed fans are dedicated to the A's staying in Oakland as the team ownership is working to head for Las Vegas.

@@DizzyskylineIts a easy narrative to go by as an Oakland resident. The Warriors simply went back to SF, without any warning. The Raiders wanted more public money (which the City of Oakland is still on the hook for, for Mount Davis). The A’s also kind of screwed over the Raiders by renewing their deal behind the Raiders back while the Raiders wanted to build a new stadium. The Raiders at the same time wanted taxpayers money, The A’s, well John Fisher is a cheap owner. He is penny pinching, and wants to get as much public money to fund his stadium. He is so cheap that he did not provide meals to his minor league team beyond a single sandwich that had a slice of cheese and ham. John Fisher is a disgrace. I hope he fails on his Vegas quest. He is ripping the heart out of Oakland with this

Any MLB team makes far more money from MLB membership, tee-vee licensing, merchandising, and advertising than it does from selling tickets. Full stadiums are a plus for publicity, but underattendance is not that big a problem. In other words -- local ticketbuyers are expendable. There's a reason Vegas is getting both professional teams from Oakland. The city of Oakland is trash and so is the stadium there. Vegas is where it's at. A first class city that can support the team. Too bad these fans in Oakland aren't as passionate about the team leaving as they should be about cleaning up the city. Living in Vegas. I welcomed the Raiders and the same with the A's. No coincidence, both professional teams are LEAVING Oakland. Sorry but true.

It’s both the As fans fault and the owners. The issue with As fans is when their team is bad they don’t show up. And it’s the owners fault for making the team so bad. Like in hockey As an islanders fan even in our worst seasons we still pack the place. I don’t understand how the As fans blame the owners entirely. And I don’t get how anyone thinks it’s just their fault as well, it’s both. A good fan base packs the stadium even to see them lose.

Imagine if this many people showed up and cared about political c0rruption and not a sports game. I hope they move to Vegas just because of that alone. The Bay Area is a clown show and doesnt deserve any sports teams.

Teams are businesses. They exist to make money, which is a good thing in the free market. What is wrong is ticketbuyers ignoring this fact. If tomorrow the Athletics got an even better deal in Acapulco, then they would move to Acapulco. If you ticketbuyers want to keep the Athletics in Oakland, then take just half the energy that you put into this stupid and futile campaign and make Oakland a place that people want to visit, instead of a place that even the locals want to leave.

I don’t really think MLB franchises are the best representation of neo-liberal economics or the free market. These cellar dweller ownership groups both leech off of bigger teams via revenue sharing and quite often leech on the tax payers via stadium subsidies paved via political contributions and lobbying. These public “investments” rarely are necessary nor worth their cost in terms positive economic externalities. There are a few groups who have self funded new stadiums but it’s still a rarity.

The People of Oakland don't want this team. They don't care. The A's had "dollar nights" and nobody came. They barely sold half the seats tonight. If Oakland really wants this team, or any sports team, there would be funding for a new ballpark. Libby Schaaf lost The Raiders, The Warriors, and The A's. 8 years in office, and she blew them all off.
These clowns want to do something meaningful? Raise money and buy the team. Go ahead. Get a few billion dollars together, and make John Fisher an offer he can't refuse.

The ownership has killed the fan base. Never any franchise players. A fire sale every five years. Higher ticket prices than teams with more expensive rosters and new stadiums.
You can't put this on the fans. This is all on the ownership, the Giants, and the Oakland government.
I don't understand your animosity towards fans that want to keep their team. Kinda sound like you're menstruating or something.

Bear with me for a second okay? Let’s say I own a restaurant. For years I use the cheapest possible ingredients. I cook them poorly. I don’t take care of my customers. I let the food spoil out on the counters etc. and let’s go ahead and say that every once in a while I make a good meal. And someone comes back hoping to get that same meal. But no, I actually got rid of everything that makes that meal because the ingredients were too expensive. Naturally, customers are going to be frustrated. In fact we can say it’s reasonable that I go out of business because I run this restaurant so poorly. So do we blame the customers for not eating at my restaurant? Or do we blame ME who ran it into the ground? Well in this scenario lucky for John Fisher, he gets a cut of all the other restaurant’s profits. And instead of being run out of business, he gets a big wheelbarrow of tax benefits and money from Nevada.
It is 100% on John Fisher. He refused to care about the A’s and do anything more than the minimum while collecting MLB welfare checks, and when fans stayed home, they were blamed. Fuck John Fisher.

@@RyanGiroux22 I think you're missing the most obvious and glaring reason. Oakland is a dump.
The Warriors and Raiders left for a reason. Why would an owner stay in one of the worst cities in America? Especially without any sort of public funding to do so? The Chicago Bears are doing the same. High crime and woke politics aren't good for business.
I highly doubt the ball players were lining up to sign long-term contracts to stay in Oakland. Nobody wants to pay Oakland prices, with California taxes, for that low quality of life and raise a family in that environment. Oakland would have to over-pay for top talent to keep them.
