The Oakland A's. What a franchise! Not sure if you've heard, but these guys like to win on a budget. They have their competitive windows, and then they trade everyone and start over. Because of this, it's easy to forget how good the good times are during the bad. One good time was the case of the 2012 Oakland Athletics, a rookie superteam featuring the likes of rookie Yoenis Cespedes, Josh Donaldson, Jarrod Parker, and Ryan Cook. Funnily enough, none of them won 2012 Rookie of the Year.
I'll also talk to a couple rookie players on the team, specifically Sean Doolittle and Travis Blackley. That's right old Foolish Baseball, creator of the MLB video essay series Baseball Bits, will be conducting interviews in this one. Funny hat and all. Who knows? Maybe there will even be a surprise cameo from Jake Mintz and Jordan Schusterman of the Cespedes Family BBQ.
There will also be a brief discussion of the Oakland A's relocation rumors. Are the Las Vegas A's viable? I'm not so sure. Personally, I'll side with the fans who organized the reverse boycott game rather than John Fisher. Finally, I promise I won't say Moneyball in this one. WAIT A SEC-

Raffy Palmerio got caught multiple times beeting the christ out of his neighbor's dawgs. It's why he ended up in Texas in the first place but after he got there they changed the dawg beeting laws and he had to adapt ot face serious legal consequences. No more rage beeting peep's dawgs.

How can you not appreciate the A’s? They’re basically the real life version of basically every 90s kids sports movie made up of misfits and oddballs who occasionally miraculously make a playoff run to excite their fans. From the state of New Jersey, thank you Oakland for making one of the most interesting sports teams to follow. It won’t be the same with you moving to Vegas.
So true about the problem of ownership in baseball, we’re seeing too many teams that people love and are emotionally connected to, being run into the ground so these owners can stuff their already full pockets. It’s become the elephant in the room and thank you for shedding even more light on the problem!
When you have the kind of money to own a baseball team you can decide how you want to run your team, owners don't owe anyone anything, wether you like it or not

As an A's fan I needed this. Being at game 162 and the Coco walk out are some of my favorite games I've ever been to

It is abandonment... Especially ever since the Raiders left the A's slogan has been "rooted in Oakland." With that slogan appearing in billboards all around Oakland and the East Bay and in an the advertisements for the A's up until this year. This whole ordeal has been a slap in the face followed by a spit in the face. If it does end up being over, I'm not even sure what team I'll end up switching to or if I'll just not pick one and only follow the MLB from a distance.

As an A's fan, those last few minutes made me emotional. I don't want to see this team leave. There is so much to love in Oakland. The 2012 Oakland A's were one of my favorite teams ever. So many memorable characters from that team. It wasnt just the rookies that made the team interesting. Even the veterans were entertaining, like Coco Crisp, Josh Reddick, Bartolo Colon, Brandon Moss, Jonny Gomes, Grant Balfour and Brandon Inge. It was just a weird collection of cast-offs and underdogs.
As someone who isn't an Oakland fan, has never been to the Oakland, let alone the coliseum, I think A's fans need a video like this.

I was there the day they took the division in the final game of the 2012 season. Absolutely electric. The way the crowd fell quiet, then exploded when Hamilton missed the catch. So much fun.
My heart goes out to Oakland and the A's fans. One of my own childhood baseball memories is of the great 1972-74 teams. To have that erased because of one greedy man is painful for me, and I can't imagine how bad it is for the local fans.

My favorite thing looking back at the 12-14 A's us just how many former Red Sox players were on those teams.

Fr RedSox fan and seeing all them playing and being amazing was so relieving, as they were most likely replace for star player or seen too average but glad As saw their true value, which when I started learn about how team operate.
Oh god the memory of seeing that Fred McGriff baseball commercial was suddenly awoken after being forgotten about for so many years.
Even as a Mariners fan, it is a lot better for the league when the A’s are competitive. Them being a sports anomaly is one of the coolest things in all of pro ball

Was not expecting the last part of this video but it's an important point to make. In a lot of ways, a sports team is more a public good or service than it is a private enterprise.
I was 8 in 2012, the year before I had gotten into watching the team a bit but 2012 was the first year I really watched. I'll never forget running home from school to watch game 162 and turning the TV on right as Hamilton dropped the ball. My 8 year old self was the happiest I could ever be because even if I didn't fully understand division races and playoffs I somehow knew I had just watched a magical season. Going to games today with my sell the team shirt and jerseys with players long before traded breaks my heart. Sell the team fisher, the fans are not, never have been, and never will be the problem, you are.

Brandon Moss moved to my hometown after he retired. I had to pitch to him in a softball game and boy howdy did he crush a homer off the scoreboard. Absolutely smashed it. Great dude too!

My A's fandom started in 2012, because game 162 was the very first baseball game I ever went to, and to this day, the best. Unfortunately it may seem to be coming to an end soon.
The story of the present day A's is a cautionary tale for all fans of any sport. It doesn't matter how long a team has been in your city or how many championships or fans the team has, there is always a chance that they will leave. Cherish your teams while you have them because you never know which season will be their last. I'm sorry A's fans you all deserve better.

Ive said it for a long time, theres an unwritten, unspoken and unmentioned AAAA level of MLB. Before the rule changes there were 5-6 teams that I considered to be AAAA more often than not in the last few years.
As a diehard A’s fan since birth I was dreading those last 3:38 but even just getting to relive that 2012 team was thrilling.
Thank you Bailey, if noting hearing the emotion in Doo’s voice reminds me that the relationship between oakland fans and its players is special. I’ll bleed green til the day I die and will cherish those memories even if that rich d!ckhead rips the team from us.
Man, those 2012-14 A's teams were so fun to watch. Loved watching Jarrod Parker and Sonny Gray going toe to toe with JV in the 2012-13 postseasons.
Crazy thing was that the A’s won 96 games and the AL West the following year with much of the same roster, and even snagged a wild card in 2014. Billy Beane’s last hurra-*BZZZZ*
Despite being fond of the Rangers teams that were bested by these A's in back-to-back years, the 2012 A's are one of my favorite teams. Apart from all the rookies, the A's only had 4 position players qualify for the batting title, 2 by margins of 5 PA or fewer. In a time of ever-expanding bullpens, they used regular platoons at both DH (Smith/Gomes) and 1B (Moss/Carter), which is basically unheard of in modern baseball. Throw in the game in which Brandon Inge drove in the go-ahead run while playing with a dislocated shoulder just for a bit of extra fun.
Been an A's fan my entire life, this was the season that I fell in love with Baseball. Watching this in the current state of this franchise, makes me really emotional. The story of rooting for a team that had their back against the wall every year, was one of the joys of my life. Watching that team's ownership work to dismantle that, is really hard.
I remember watching that final series against the rangers with my dad and brother. We talked during game one and decided that if we won that first game, we would buy tickets for the final game of the season on the off chance we went for the sweep. Still far and away the greatest baseball memory I’ve had in my life. I love the A’s. Oakland’s team
And that last game was one of their $2 Wednesday specials. Of course, they were long sold out of those tickets by game day.

Now that Dan Snyder has (finally) been knocked off his throne in Washington; Cincinnati's owner/ownership group is one of (if not The) the biggest a**holes in sports. As proud, and historically significant, as that club is; it's a little sad how the Reds of had a long history of owner's that were... let's just say, less than stellar examples of human beings.
Cincinnati, Oakland, Miami, the list goes on (*cough* Montreal)... the players on those franchises deserve better. And the fans of said ball clubs deserve WAY better.
As a lifelong Cub fan, it is hard for me to root for Cincy. Though, they have always had players I like (God bless Joey Votto). But, as a baseball fanatic, who grew up in the late 80's and early 90's, it is impossible for me to not have nostalgic memories of both Oakland and the Reds. Even, however secretly, cheer them on this year.

Was twelve years old during this season, Oakland fans are truly incredible, such a shame MLB makes us out to seem like we don’t care about our team, yet if you look at game 162 against Texas you will never see a more passionate fan base.

As a 41 year old, who took the day off work to witness that historical game, I also felt that the world was perfect for a day. What a comeback, punctuated by Hamiliton dropping the ball.

I can't forget that year because that was the year my father came home from a heavy morning of Hanukah celebratory drinking and aggressively beet the teeth right out my dawgs mouf in front of me and my siblings. Frankly, I find it staggering how little mainstream sources and/or casual fans appreciate the history of the Oakland Athletics. It's a shame how that organization has treated their fanbase. But I really admire the work put into this video. Excellent stuff.

I was at game 162! I remember my stepdad bought tickets for that game MONTHS in advance because they were so cheap and it ended up being the game that clinched the division!

Thank you for making this video. As an A’s fan this was my favorite season of all time. I went to the most games that season than any other season. I was at the cespedes walk off home run game against the dodgers and I knew this team was special. Josh reddick and coco crisp were really impactful veterans on this team as well. These seasons are what make being an A’s fan so special. Thank you for highlighting this season and showing MLB that baseball belongs in Oakland!

As an A’s fan, 2012-2014 were my Golden Years of watching a super team but then again were so young that I never realized the talent we had. Once they all left they were given the spotlight on their respective teams, and yet again started another rebuild for Oakland baseball. Sell the team.
This video made me cry. I was 11 in 2012 and this team made me fall in love with baseball. Everything is so vivid in my mind. I remember listening to Ryan Cook's 4-out save on the radio. Everything about the season was perfect and I still think about it all the time. This season has been devastating. Thanks for showing love to Oakland, I hope people will remember what a special place this is for baseball.

Say what you want but truth is the fans are absolutely partly to blame for the team's current state. If attendance wasn't so horrendous over the past decades then things would likely be in a much better situation. Saying it's all just the owners fault is completely childish.

In case you are interested, Chris Carter is still raking, now in the Mexican League, currently leading the league in OPS. Travis Blackley also had a stint in Mexican League, incidentally playing for the same team Carter is on now, and was instrumental in winning the championship in 2016.
Is Carter also leading the Mexican league in strikeouts too?

Awesome video on a proud fanbase that is being screwed by the league. In the current MLB landscape I feel like a lot of the really young teams are the ones making strong pushes much like these As did.

This was when I followed baseball the closest, so thanks. These teams were gutsy, clutch, had classic postseason nailbiters against DET.
Shout out to soft tossing Tommy Malone, noodle arm utility knife Coco Crisp, the never ending platoon hitting catchers, extreme pulled fly ball Chris Carter, Céspedes being a physical freak, the Coliseum dugouts flooding with sewage, and the eventual arrival of Sonny Gray. Oh yeah, and getting heartbroken watching Verlander and Scherzer mow through this lineup year after year. Good times.

It was in 2012 that I started to follow baseball. Because I live in Utah, I initially tied myself to the Rockies. However, that team in Oakland kept catching my attention. I knew about their budget because of a movie I'd seen recently, but I don't want to give all the credit to the movie. That team was so fun that I stayed a fan of the franchise until somewhere in the middle of last year when it was clear it never be the same. Thank you for this video and the ultimate message.
My two favorite teams are The Nationals and The A's. So I got to see almost all of Sean Doolittle's career. He's a treasure.

The only good memories I have of my father involve The A's. He lives a few miles from The Oakland Coliseum. When I was a teen, it was Canseco, McGwire, Eck, Stew, Ricky, Weiss, Hendu and so many more.
Seeing The A's in such a state makes me want to cry.

When I think baseball, I think the 2012 A's. The walk-offs, the home runs led by Josh Reddick with 32, and winning the division at the end. This was the 1st of a few years where I watched the MLB closely and almost every A's game. I appreciate the video.
Even though I don't enjoy baseball as much as other sports now, I recently went to what is likely my final OAKLAND A's game ever at Comerica Park against the Tigers(since I live in Detroit now). Sort of a last hurrah to see them representing the Bay Area. It was a fun time and I will certainly never forget the 2012 A's!💚💛
