    Really cool part about videos like this is seeing how so many younger people love what we were fortunate to have lived through. Especially the MTV generation.

    • @moogledoodles
      @moogledoodles 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ron Bertka I dig this comment. I’m 23, grew up with Heart because of my mom pretty much since the womb. Just got to seem them play live last month for the first time, my mom’s only seem them 3 times. These women are true inspirations; I love for watching these oldies videos because this is where they began, this was their prime. They’re still undoubtedly incredible nonetheless, but I do wish I’d lived during this time instead of the music that pollutes my generation.

    • @ronbertka
      @ronbertka 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@moogledoodles I love that you have been able to see them live. Even though no longer in their prime you were still able to appreciate the talent they have shared with so many people over all these years. Might I suggest you check out some other bands. But see them live and then find videos of early on...if you are not sure who, ask your mom who else she liked. Plus you get the benefit of bonding as an adult with her, which is so different than when you were younger

    • @moogledoodles
      @moogledoodles 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ron Bertka Thank you for your kind words! And don’t get my mom wrong, her teaching me about Heart came along with many other bands that I love to this day. She calls me her lil rock n roll baby lol. Just brings sadness to my heart to know there’ll never be artists like this for my generation. The world loves to favor artificial technology over raw talent.

She did a duet with Carey Underwood of "Alone" and it was amazing to see how much she had to throttle back to really merge with Carey Underwood's range (an amazing country singer but country is, in my opinion, not as demanding power-wise). I've been going to rock concerts since the early 70s and Heart was easily among the top 3 or 4 best bands I've ever seen and heard on stage. Consummate professional musicians all of them and the best musician was Ann. I always get the chills when I hear her sing. Nancy Wilson was an average guitarist at best in the rock world. She was touted as being great because she was female. I appreciate all the work she has done and it has been spectacular. It seems reasonable to stay away from comparing people one to another because, what one thinks is great, another thinks different.

    Nancy is underrated as a guitarist, because she played rhythm instead of lead. Being the sister of the lead singer, she had to feature prominently in the music for her own ego, as well as marketing the sisters as a team. This forced Heart to make more intricate compositions, and thus higher quality music.
    I think Nancy makes the difference between Ann and Pat Benatar. The latter woman has an extraordinary voice, voice, but while the band that backed her was more than competent, they just didn't do anything that interesting. The vocals were the attraction, and everything else was certainly world class, just utterly forgettable. Because of Nancy Wilson, we're talking about Ann Wilson, and not Par Benatar.

    You know your stuff.I am married to a Classically trained singer from Ireland(her classmate at music school in Dublin the time was Sinead O'Connor)and my wife sings like you described and showed she sings all the time like opera). She sang back-up on some Irish rock/folk albums back in the late 80's/early 90's but she lost interest(the scene was not for her).

    Early Heart is the best. Nancy is awesome and no one will ever sing like Ann again. Glad you're not completely classical. I learned singing in a cappella choir. I know exactly what you're talking about. Excellent teaching! Thanks!

    It's nice to hear from someone who actually has experience and knows what they're talking about and can demonstrate it. TH-cam is inundate with "vocal coaches" who are fresh out of the high school glee club who have limited ability and even less knowledge. I'd like to see more TRUE reaction videos to singers/performances you're seeing/hearing for the very first time.

    I saw them on this tour, for their album "Little Queen", at Convention Hall on the boardwalk in Asbury Park, NJ August 16th 1977. For their encore they did Zeppelins "Rock n Roll" and dedicated it to the King, as Elvis ahd passed away earlier that day. Amazing show!

    I am not sure why everyone keeps referred to Nancy Wilson as an underrated female guitarist. I come from the classical world and my and all of my friends response to her has always been "oh, wow, a pop guitarist that can REALLY play." Being a "her" was never in the conversation. We have female guitarist in the classical world so whats the issue? I remember the first time I heard Dreamboat Annie and Crazy on You. I was outside a half a block away from the house it was coming from and I was so compelled by the music that I walked to the house and entered it (friends house) just to hear it better. First time I ever did that. And then of course Ann, jeez she could sing. But this story that they were dismissed is bunk. Some critics no one remembers made comments but I mean unlike most bands that are "here today, gone this afternoon" they have been around for decades. And as for men didn't think much of them, I would like to point out there were four of them in the band (people seem to forget them) and they were all great also. Those four definitely had confidence in Ann and Nancy. I just know among my "gang" of people, nothing but respect for all of them. Especially given the infighting drinking and rowdyness typical of rock bands. But yeah, props to all of them.

    I would love to see you react to the A Capella group Home Free! They have four lead singers and their harmonies are unmatched! The Bass, Tim Foust, can sing Tenor, and a Bass so low that it will blow your socks off. The high Tenor, Austin Brown, sings lead on a lot of their early songs, but can sing Pop, Country, and even songs from Musicals. (his live performance of "Bring Him Home" is phenomenal). They cover Pop, Country, R&B, and Gospel/Christmas songs. Their original songs lean more to the Country genre. They are awesome! You won't believe how incredible ALL of their voices are!

    Add Dio singing Last in Line or in Black Sabbath singing Children of the Sea. Operatic influenced heavy metal singing, he also sang hard rock, blues (Elf, Rainbow) and doo wop (Ronnie and the Prophets).
