Hi james. My wife is slovak (she is also a subscriber) , So this was a really poignant video. We both enjoyed your walk around and brought great back memories for us. Im with you on the "Bryndzove Halusky" goats cheese dumpling not for me i tried also . My wife likes it and loves the poppyseed gnocchi dish. The food is actully really nice especially my mother in laws when we visit. We are driving over again for new year, about 45 mins from bratislava to a smaller city and very nice. . The language is tough but i can get by with basics now and understand more than can speak and nearly all younger generation speak english. People are very welcoming actually though we both say customer service is a new concept still ... efficient but a bit cold. I greatly recommend the country for a visit and being not well known it is still genuine in many places. Skiing great in winter too , a best kept secret. Recommend you return with Helen and give it a real chance , maybe in better accommodation, it can be found very reasonably priced. Thanks james , gave us a nostalgic evening . Looking forward to where your going next, central europe is great to visit. Stay stoic 😊

I didn't break Barnsley law, at 1pm, today. Lunch was provided by Brent, Anne and the ladies at the Y-PAS chippy in Kexborough.
Are those fish & chips still nice? The last time I was passing I bought some and they were absolutely delicious.
@asensibleyoungman2978 Consistently delicious. I have food allergies and have never been ill from food at Y-PAS. My family celebrates birthdays, anniversaries and other events with fish 'n chips from Y-PAS. We bring newspapers to put on our laps, flasks of tea and our own cutlery and condiments. We drive into nearby countryside, park up and enjoy the scenery. Why pass Y-PAS? ☆☆☆☆☆

Thanks for that... seems like a lovely city and it's refreshing to see that the people are healthy looking compared to what you see in Canadian big cities which often seem like a collection of the halt, the lame and the fat [whoops, did I say that outloud!]. I did some travelling by myself when younger and it can be very lonely but then again you don't have to cater to someone else's idea of what needs to be seen or not seen,
Great videos pal, I went to prague and tried the goulash and i must admit it was one of the best things ive ever eaten, id recommend trying that whilst you are in that part of the world 👍

Just a note on sheep’s milk cheese,it’s nothing like goats cheese,which is definitely goaty,sheep’s milk isn’t like that,the Spanish ones are great,and I think most people would like them.There isn’t much in the way of cheese I don’t like,but sheep’s milk cheeses are my favorites.

This looks like fun just "wingin it" around Europe. I was looking up the poppy seed noodle dish and it had powdered sugar in the recipe so that's why it tasted a little sweet. That looked like a nice little room on the barge, kind of like living in your van. I like walking the less traveled streets of a city and sometimes just get on a local bus and ride around. Well I'm guessing your next destination will be Budapest, a city I'd like to get to someday. Have fun!

City looks nice. Food a bit unusual to say the least. Wikipedia says the Blue church was painted different pastel shades initially then they settled on blue. Sorry you had no-one to grumble to. I think we Brits are a lot more smiley and jolly than a lot of other Europeans. The Polish gal at our Post Office never cracks a grin.

Hi James, Bratislava looks a nice place, that hostel looked a bit hostile :) I thought it might turn into one of those type of horror movies, £40 though, bargain :) - anyway loved the Vlog, that fish n fries !! say no more ... at least you tried a traditional slovak breakfast buddy and shame Helen could not be there but thanks again buddy, really enjoyed walking around Bratislava with you, see you soon, from your biggest number 1 fan, Alec :)

Oooh somewhere I'd never thought of visiting. Looks beautiful but the folk seem, like uou said, a bit dour! Dont think i saw one smiling face. I’m not sure how true it is or whether just a stereotype, but I’ve read that in countries like Russia people don’t usually smile in public, not because they are miserable but because they have no interest in been insincere. Apparently they are still very friendly but they save their smiles for when they mean it.

What have you done to me James? I had fish n chips the other day. (Try to limit fish n chips to twice a year). But I found myself thinking about them like you do and RATING them! 😵💫 Enjoyed the video. I could not have stayed in that last place though. It looked completely airless. Sardine in a can sprang to mind. Glad you were going to stay in a hotel next. Phew! 😊

Lovely place Bratty, though I only spent a day there... I haven't peeked at your favourite town yet. I was thinking Vienna maybe, which's were I was staying and only a short cruise down the Danube. If it wasn't, that's a place deffo worth a visit too. Now I'm off to track down the follow up vid and see if I was right :)
PS, salad has no place on a plate of F&C's, imho.

It’s only one night.
Am a Brit living and working in Bratislava. It's a nice place, the people are all friendly,the culture is great too. If you speak English there's Office work here,the wages are similar to the UK and rents are cheap.
The standard of living looks to be far higher than the UK. Also people seems to be far healthier

Can an unqualified person get a job there? I’ve only got two grade Cs at GCSE and that’s all. Nothing more than that but I’d like to move somewhere like that

🙋♀️ I liked the Barge, nice and clean and at least you had a great sea view - whereas the Hostel was down several dark corridors, no windows - heaven knows if there was a fire - glad you were safe ‼️

Hi James, it looks very clean, no litter and the pavements are all very pretty, not like our up and down cracked pavements in Donny ! I have some friends that are Slovakians and are lovely, and they have some very nice deserts, think they have sweet tooth like me lol
