Helen I commend you for having such a positive flowing energy after many hours of gruelling shifts at the hospital. With you being a NHS worker, I salute you and appreciate you massively. James, you are such a privileged man to have such a wonderful caring lady. If she can't put a smile on ya chops, nothing will.
Hi Helen 🖐️
Just kidding. I absolutely love and adore her 😊
Please don't speak about the NHS. Corrupt to the core.
P.S Helen is great.
The NHS really has become a cult to some.
@@bythecurb My Missus is Radiographer with NHS and she worked through the pandemic and post pandemic without missing a day of work at her hospital unless she had Covid19. We all had COVID19 twice
My son planted a conker 35 years ago in in the garden its now 25 feet tall and still going 😊
The reason there's so many Turkish barbers is because there's a special visa that entitles Turks to come here, setup a business and claim citizenship after 5 years. Also anyone they employ can also claim it after 5 years. So it's basically a dubious way to buy a UK passport and why so many are empty as barbering isn't really their main purpose. It gets even worse as a lot have been set up by criminal gangs, who are not only selling citizenship but running fronts for various other illegal activities (modern slavery, smuggling etc). I think there's a street in Plymouth which has the crown with 15 or so of them!
Sickening.
Just loving the gems of places you find xx
Most of them are Kurds, was chatting with one recently. The law is very lax and the government need to wake up to it as many if these places aren't even paying taxes.
Typical Scunthorpe racist. How's Brexit going Gibson?
Explains why most are terrible barbers.
Love it when Helen speeds up outside a Spoons!! 🤣
It's Helen's pub walk! 🙂
You are truly made for each other, you can see the love you have for each other x
We really are!!
As a resident of sunny Scunny, this video turned out better than i thought it would have. It's a dying town, god help us if the steelworks closes. Of course there are some positives..... When did you visit, the high street looked busier than usuall. Good video all in all and thanks for coming.
only every been to Scunny to visit relatives for either a funeral or xmas and last time I went to Glanford Park was for a wake :( It looks a lot cleaner and tidier than Doncaster Centre, at least you have nice new pavements ! The ones in Doncaster are so un-even its mainly a trip hazzard, Looks a lot nicer than I expected tbh.
Thanks so much for the video and for putting a positive spin on scunthorpe. After living there all my life (56 years) I've always thought it is a grim sh#thole , which isn't as bad as it seems because it means where ever else you visit seems wonderful. I'm currently on holiday in Spain and was dreading returning home, however after watching the video and seeing what a wonderful place scunthorpe actually is , I can almost bring myself to look forward to coming Home. Straight to wetherspoons on arrival though!😂😂
Lol 😂 Moaning about charity shops.... 'I'm not going in another one!'
Helen loves it like lots of us do 👏👏
Like the stearingwheel lock 😮 not seen 1 of them since 1992 😊😂❤
😂
Most enjoyable vlog. Enjoyed the double act being back together.
Suggestion for a future visit,,think you’d love a day out at Yarm in Cleveland. Lovely old market town with lots of pubs and restaurants.
And try a bottle of fantastic salad dressing at Strickland and Holts made by my 92 yr old mam Renee❤👍
What a superb video. SO professionally done and wonderful to see these places, as I can’t walk far ( mobility problem) and so wouldn’t see such beautiful cities & towns otherwise. I feel we’ve been there now. Thank you James & Helen 👌👏
Here in Scotland, you used to be able to go to college to learn gents hairdressing, get a diploma ,then perhaps ,open your own shop.cant see that happening today as every high st is swamped by Turkish Barbers with 10 staff and penny numbers customers...this happened during theTories " Strong on immigration" policy.😂😂😂LMFAO
Great vlog.
Kevin Keegan started his pro career at Scunthorpe before being bought by Liverpool.
The Wolf fleeces for you both should be a deffo.
Stay safe and thanks
Seem to have a memory that my husband kept on about Kevin Keegan was rejected by Doncaster Rovers for being too small 🤣
@@helenreasbeck1348 spot on there Helen.
Did ya know that there are 10 Turkish barbers to every 1 McDonald's restaurant in the UK
I went to Scunthorpe for the first time a month ago, and injured my leg on a McDonalds outdoor table. It still hurts. Can't stand the place now.
😂😂😂😂 You don't like the place because you hurt your leg 😂
I,ve been to Scunthorpe and
I,ve been on Concorde ( at the fleet air museum in Yeovil )
It,s still there i think ...
Great video James and nice to see Helen .. Do you know that conkers are banned in schools now because it is described as dangerous! What a load of crap eh? Watched a blogger the other night on Grimsby and it is supposed to be Britain`s most deprived place with 75% of shops boarded up ..I thought it would be fun to take Helen there and see her reaction when she can`t o any shopping .. Thanks James and sithee!
You saying ' this isn't good content ' is good content. I love both of yours down to earth way , much love
Another enjoyable vlog guys, good to see Helen again she certainly adds a different dynamic, fast to the pub slowwwww to order. Magic.👍
Haha that's true!
oh my days the more i watch the more i can relate to Helen, her passion to read, learn and grow. AND when she suddenly got distractred by a little seaweed.... my ASD brain screamed out.... yup Helen could be Neurodiverse.... coolio.
Yes, I think she is
Looking forward to the conker fight 😅 I used to put clear nail varnish on my conkers to harden them up , put a few coats on 😊👍
Cant believe Helen did buy the wolf fleece it genuinely looked great on her and it was a bargain
😂 it was diabolical.
The comment about conkers keeping spiders away made me belly laugh...my mum bless her believed this great video as always much love to you both
Hustleing hard, I appreciate your out of your comfort zone but producing top notch are content for us to consume. You are doing great guys keep hustleing.
Thank you! Will do!
Hustling. You're welcome.
You are living the dream because you are with the person you love.
Unfortunately my wife died of cancer in the pandemic so I'm quite lonely.
Thanks for a lovely channel and cherish what you have. BTW Helen is the stat of your channel. Take care lovelies ❤
Thank you, I'm so sorry for your loss ❤️
You guys need to come to barton upon humber, got some charity shops, nice river walks and cracking pubs..
That was fair, pity you couldnt go round Normanby Hall, Helen would have loved that...loads to read and see.
Thank god it was shut!! 😂
well.....not sure i should admit to spending a good deal of my childhood in sunny scunny :) it used to be a lot nicer but sadly unemployment has ravaged it.central park used to have an outdoor paddling pool, bird aviary, pond, butterfly house and the annual childrens gala was held there, most of the town turned up.the market isnt very old,the old market had more atmosphere and was a lot busier.the pods leisure centre is next to central park you couldve gone for a dip x
Hooked on this channel!! Never fails to make me laugh. ❤
Thank you
Soak the confers in vinegar for a few days then bake for 2 hours 120c that should be enough to harden them. Then Play 🤣🤣👩🏼
Bratislava and Budapest to Scunthorpe talk about extremes 😅😅😅😅
Another great trip, James and Helen.. Good vid
I always find when going East to Scunthorpe it is always best to go and sleep in the car park at Fox House!! 🤪
Loving the shows guys, help keeping the missis and me sane while stuck here in spain, looking forward to moving back to Yorkshire.
Thank you
Spain sounds lovely I’m from Yorkshire and I’d pick Spain over Yorkshire cos it’s much warmer.
Great video, in fact the best Hello Fresh advertising ever. ❤
Oh my gosh, thankyou for doing this video of Scunthorpe. I was born there 68 years ago but left at 19 to immigrate to New Zealand. I still remember Normanby Hall and Central Park. Scunthorpe gets the mick taken out of it bigtime, so this was very special for me. Love you two together.
It’s only the high street in Scunthorpe that’s a little run down and that’s mainly because of the shopping habits of people have changed. There are lovely parts of Scunthorpe. You needed to explore more.
This was absolutely brilliant video,in total one of the best .that hard to say seriously was just brilliant and the hello fresh advert just funny start
I used to live in Village just outside Scunthorpe, we used to shop in Brigg mostly. Scunny market was the best for meat. Love the charity shops, me and Helen would have a fab time. Helen Brigg has a few too!
Hi! I was one of the gallery assistants at 20-21, I'm really glad you enjoyed it at Moe's, he was very happy when I spoke to him about you coming
Thank you for the tip, we really enjoyed it. Moe's a lovely bloke :-)
Saw the Levellers for the first time at the Baths Hall a few years back....Happy days.
Helen will like this, I think. Fun fact about nearby Flixborough. When I saw the Ferry House I recognised it straight away. I helped commission Burton Stather telephone exchange in 1974 and although I only lived in Sheffield I stayed in digs near the pub and went home at weekends. During the week I used to cycle around the area frequently passing the Nypro plant at Flixborough. You may recall that on Saturday 1st June 1974 is when the plant exploded trashing lots of properties in the locality.
Another little story, after Flixborough explosion I started travelling every day to and from Sheffield. The car journey pre motorway used to take ages to get back home on't Gleadless Valley. But one night as I reached the main road from Scunny, a fire engine on blue lights and siren shot past towards Donny. I thought chuffin' hell, that's handy, so I pulled out and tucked in behind it. I stayed with it as it tore past other cars even through a red light at Thorne and through Donny and out towards A1 through Balby. I turned South down A1 and fire engine went straight on towards Conisborough. Anyway, I got home in record time and so early that our old lady thought I must have been sacked.
Oh you two don’t half make me laugh and on this occasion brought back memories of Burton upon Stather.
Thank you and thanks for the brilliant stories :-)
Guaranteed laugh out loud moment whenever Helens in the video, this time it was ‘sometime later’ insert you put in, when she was choosing the Guinness 😂
P.s. Take the subtle hint and “get your stuff done” James,Helen wants you smooth😉
I’ve just realised the best thing to see in Scunthorpe is the 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th letters 😂😂
Hi Helen! My fellow thrifter! Great to see you, missing your comic relief and glad you & James had a lovely time together! Keep the video’s coming, you both are hilarious and it’s good to see bits of England from the States😊
Thank you 😊
Watching you picking up the conkers reminded me of when I was 14 years old and I went to Germany with my mother.
We stayed with a family and they took us to different places and one of them was where there were loads of big Pine cones.
I picked up loads of them in a bag and in my pocket and we got back to their house.
I started to sort them out and then realized they had loads of earwigs in them.😳😳
So the lot went straight into the bin. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
We went to 'Bad Harzburg' which is near Hannover. (we actually stayed in Peine).
but Bad Harzburg is a really beautiful place if you visit in the summertime.
I was born in Scunthorpe, it was a great Steel town but sadly declining due to the loss of jobs
Cheers for the vlog James, regards to all 👍
Used to go raving back in the day at the baths hall across from the supermarket good old days bk then.. Its rubbish when you pass 35 your body is knackered put the conkers in the airing cupboard on a string
I used to live near Scunny, (as they call it), in a town called Barton On Humber. Later on I lived in Scunny itself for a few years when I worked at a local chicken factory. You can imagine the reputation of Scunthorpe. I think I'll always have a bit of a soft spot for it. It's part of my childhood.
Watched the Huddersfield vlog...pretty depressing , decided to watch the Budapest vlogs, the van vlog, and now Scunthorpe vlog, gradually getting a feel for your character which comes across as genuine, and your thoughts on places, food etc is fair. Enjoyed seeing Helen , made me laugh with the wig part and the 20-21 visual arts commentary was funny. Helen is funny and complements you and is out of kilter in a nice way. ( From the Hudd but live Down Under for many years so good / bad to see places I have been / not seen) Keep up the good work...enjoyable vlogs
You should have bought some haslet when you were in that deli. When I lived in Cambridgeshire we had a local butcher who made haslet. It’s delicious.
Conkers - you’re right about soaking in vinegar! It made them smaller and harder and very difficult to break in a conker fight!
You can still go on Concorde, it is on display at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford Airfield.
Same here its migrant money laundering special. Barber dhops , car washes and takeaways. Theyre making hundreds of thousands
It's almost as though certain shops are fronts for other business ventures, isn't it?
You both need to spend a night in Richmond North Yorkshire. Great pubs plenty of charity shops and I believe the cheapest Spoons in Yorkshire although I'm sure you've probably found one cheaper!
Ooo takes me back to my army days 😂
I went on Concorde. It was a static display at RAF Bassingbourn and had no wings. It was really cramped and the seats looked like they were the same ones that were used in the Austin Allegro. Thanks for visiting Scunthorpe. It was not on my "to visit" list, and I feel I can now tick it off.
Ive never been up north and im 65 i feel im missing something
Being born in north london im loving your video but i must confess ive not been to a pub since 1995 a while ago
My family do HelloFresh, and they all think it's so great ‼️ You can order as much or as little as you like, say 7 meals or just one or two ... and it's so well organized ... and I'm not getting paid to say this 😁😁
Hi James, love your channel. You’ve previously mentioned that you play the piano. So if you want to mix it up a bit, you could get a small keyboard in your van & do ‘guess the tune’ with us all!
Kind regards to you & Helen. 😊
Haha I do have a small keyboard but I've not played for years. I need to practice 😂
I;ve missed the interaction of you two over the last couple of weeks .Great to see you sharing .
Its great to be back with Helen
Good video giving us a look around Scunny. Enjoyed it.
Totally understand did not reliese full time job.Wish you every success. Will continue watching and supporting ❤
Hello you 2 x just a quick one. there is a pop up camp site at Whitby at the end of the month for the Halloween goth festival if it might interest you. £25 a night pay on the gate. a big field on top of the cliffs next to the abbey
The irony of the “Lucky Tuppence” in sunny Scunny! I had the pleasure of accompanying my partner to the Forest Pines Golf Club In Scunthorpe whilst he played me and a friend hit the town. It was then just a town of Bookies and Charity shops back then, with many other stores closed down. Such a shame that many of our towns are the same now. Mind you, many bargains to be had! Lol
This video was brilliant 😂 I miss Vera's blonde hair though :( All of us are baggage btw James 😂
He's only joking 😂
Good video James, nice to see Helen back. Scunny town centre looks abit depressing if I'm honest but then its just the same as most northern towns.
Kevin Keegan plated for Scunthorpe before joining Liverpool. Love your vids.
Have you both ever thought of doing a trip over to Amsterdam ? Definitely one of the prettiest cities I’ve ever visited 👍
Only if they both promise to take a bit of weed while they are there
We are trying to arrange something 😊
Mums nail varnish was a goto performance enhanced conker, love the advertisement good for you mate
so thanks, now I know where Wetherspoons is in Scunny. Did not know the Blue Bell pub had closed down... Been away from home for 20 years, and Scunny High Street looks like a lot of places are closing down. Woolworths has gone it seems, and a couple of other places I knew so well when I lived there.
Hats off to the litterpickers in that town ....looking good😮
Welcome back Helen...but he gets Bratislava and Budapest...and you get Scunthorpe...have a word...!!!
She's getting Spain next month 😂
Helen's rant about conkers had me absolutely creased coz my partner's dad has them all across his windowsill😂
Love watching you both. You should come to Ull (Hull). Lots to do and see, a great Old Town, lots of history and plenty of Charity Shops for Helen
Another interesting fact about Scunthorpe Utd, Three people who have captained
England , played at Scunny. Botham ,Keegan, and Clemence.
Helen looks good what ever hair color is lol your not bad either James keep doing them. me and missis love the vlogs keep going ta
James interesting fact Ian Botham played for Scunny at the same time he was playing cricket for England 🏴
Had a couple of tasty away visits to Glanford Park with Hull City in the 1990s, you can't beat derby days, Oakwell is a good away too, any Yorkshire side as long as they aren't from the steel city ! 😂
Nice to see you back on team Helen, James, I am Macbetinfotipping, commented before on Budapest, keep up the good work👍
Thank you
I always ff on Hello Fresh ads but this one I didn’t!
Please do a vlog on a romantic cooked meal for H 🤣
Cash economy.. thats why ya can't paye in any Turkish barber with a card... aka .. MONEY 💰 laundering.. same with the car wash .
Thanks for doing this video guys. No need for me to lose half day that I’ll never get back by visiting one day 👌
Food came quicker than Helen choosing a drink! “Priceless”😂
Idea for you when Helen goes in charity shop just say you'll wait in spoons , you watch she would be in and out in minutes . Winner 😊 love the vlog 👍
Great idea!! 😂
My hometown if you go again try the cafe el Toro I left Scunthorpe moved to Grimsby
you’ll need to nick helens nail varnish and coat the conkers
an old trick (strengthens the win 🥇)after the vinegar and oven treatment
Are you going to Whitby Goth Weekend ? we are going on Caravan Club Rally, the rally field is 300 yards from the brewery !
I went a few years ago and it's not really my cup of tea!! 😁
I enjoy going to places that some people might think why? Went to Cannon Hall Farm this year and stayed at the Holiday Inn at Wakefield. The pubs were rocking during the day. Scunthorpe looks like my type of place. Don’t know if you have videos of Wakefield. Keep up the good work.
I was in Wakefield on Saturday afternoon and noticed the pubs were busy. I'm fancying a day trip 😊
New York's Central Park is based on Birkenhead park (the first park in the world). You can visit from your place in about and hour and a half, it's grim as 'eck, might make a good video though? Oh, and you can stealth camp at Moreton, Thurstaston or Wallasey for cool views?
Scunthorpe seemed nice. Another good episode guys 🤗
Great video James and Helen. Thanks for visting my hometown, I can think of worse places to live. Glad you enjoyed your day.
Thank you, we had a great time
@@bythecurb Like London?
Or anywhere south of Yorkshire really
Yeah - steep them in vinegar to harden them. You also put them in the oven - if you're going to eat them 😀 Seriously, you can eat them. They are beautiful - they always look like they've been expertly polished when they first come out.
Helen reminds me of the Paul Whitehouse character from the Fast show."brilliant"😂😂
I do use that line on her 😂 'int milk brilliant'
me and a few mates plus my grown up daughter went to and stayed over in Scunny after a Sunderland game a few years ago. I try really hard not to slag places off as everywhere has some decent places and everywhere has some great people. It was really hard to big up Scunny though. We like a decent real ale and the options seemed to stop at the spoons which when you are there all day is a bit of an issue. My daugher decided that as there was no real ale that we should play a game. So whenever we went into a new pub we asked the barman or barmaid a very simple question. 'What would Jesus drink'? We then ordered that. It turned into a messy night.
That’s my home town I was born in 1969 and left scunny 21yrs ago last time I was there is almost 14 yrs ago it’s changed since then hope you guys liked sunny scunny.
We did, we had a great time and met some lovely people
Three coats of clear varnish in the conker James 👍
I took my Linda for a day out in Barnsley a few years ago. We had a good day out, well I enjoyed it.
We've got another Barnsley vlog coming up soon :-)
